This is so therapeutic. “Don’t be afraid” I am very afraid I have such bad anxiety drawing I don’t want to make a mistake or make it ugly. But I’ll never learn 😂. This is motivating me to start drawing again. Coming from super realistic drawing and idealistic “perfectionism” I want to be messy and loose. Like this
I know that it can be hard to just mess up the drawing a little bit and try to thing that it’s being “brave”. I would suggest that if you are just trying out a new drawing, if you want it to look good in a sketchbook, draw it on normal paper first. Once you are proud of that drawing, you can draw it in an actual sketchbook and have your lovely, non-messy picture inside the pages of a sketchbook. However if you want to make it messy, that’s fine to! :)😊
You can draw any time and no one ever has to even know :) just remember, you don’t have to make it a commitment, sometimes it’s just nice to do it for yourself especially when you’re getting back into it! Have fun and happy drawing ❤🎉
I have really bad perfectionism, too. What helped me was recognizing a need for what I called: Chaotic Energy Art. Its when what you really want is to use art as a therapy for your anxiety but your anxiety stops you from doing even that. So, recognizing this in myself I allowed myself to create "bad art". I mean, doodles and lines and scribbles with Crayola Crayons, cardboard, glitter, glue whatever is on hand like a 5 year old with finger paints. To get out the "nervous tension" about being "wrong" artistically. At first you'll have a blast and then you'll get bored and want to do something challenging, thats when you will have the confidence and relaxation from your "child-like" warmups to create something you really want to! Dont be afraid to do childish things sometimes! We have a stigma against it as adults but there's no one that knows how to relax more than a child, lol! We can learn from them :)
There’s so many people trying to make their videos entertaining. Cool fun music. Little humor. Flourishes, whatever. All I want is just somebody to be showing me some art and how to do it. Bro. You’re one of the few. And in this, I get more than just entertainment. I thank you sir. God bless you
Thank you, had a couple of brain Strokes and was left with permanent shaking hands like Parkinson's. Love hearing this. I also switched to watercolor painting which crazy loose painting can be beautiful, I wish more artist would let imperfect people can still create beautiful art, it all comes from the heart, ta- da! ❤
Excellent approach, this makes your art unique. And I do think that this matters a great deal because we get older, injured and sick (hopefully not all at once😅😉) and our craft should develop accordingly❤
I love this because im always messing up with perception. Instead of erasing im just going to keep creating line until my eye recognizes the right perception.
i love this. I started of wanting to perfect lines. my art got so much better when i just started embracing the mess, a bit of mess makes the art more real
Watching your tutorials for the first time immediately helped me to let my fountain pen just wander around the paper: I didn't do good sketches in the beginning , of course, but it was a complete different "feeling" to draw lines. I draw, however, in another way when using fineliners. Thank you so much!
Bro I’ve been wanting to get into urban sketching for so long and the first drawing I just did with this technique is my favorite one yet, and I had the most fun during the process too 😭 thanks for the great teachings!
When I first started out, I used to sketch like a finished piece alongside my friend who also drew in this manner. But later I released that type of sketches have a life.
This is so valuable! I try to create a perfect visual sketch, and I think that's the problem. I need to make something that I can visualize and understand so that I can mold and build it into the final project. Even if it seems like a mess, as long as I can understand what I did, it's the right way. Trying to follow methods strictly sometimes can make us feel insecure and it's not always necessary. The sketch is there to help, it doesn't need to be perfect at first and methodical all of the time. We should be allowed to make mistakes and play with lines freely, it's way more fun to me, at least.
I absolutely love your style♥️ For me, as a complete newbie, making a mistake is like dying a death🥺 You have officially saved my life with a 30 sec video 🥹My new mantra: *_"Mistakes are my superpower"_*
Make as many mistakes as you can! I’ve been drawing for more than a decade, in fact, drawing is my day job, and I can tell you from experience this advice is as good as it gets!
my problem is just whenever i try to stretch loose i lose the soul and detail of the drawing. i cant tell if it’s a problem with me not knowing proportions or something
Often it's just about trying to find our style. For me, if I sketch tight i lose the soul of the drawing because for me the beauty is in loose and splashy sketching. But it's so personal, I'm not right and you're not wrong!
Brilliant short Toby love the looseness 😊 you inspired me to do a loose watercolour sketch yesterday.. i posted a vid of it on my channel 😊 so thank you 🙏
@@TobySketchLoose thank you so much ☺️ this is the best thing knowing like minded people doing the same as yourself being there to enjoy support and get inspiration from seeing others create beautiful art.. really loving your channel mate x
It can be! It can also be about shapes or colours or values - though I guess you're still looking for 'lines' or points of contrast between things hehe
Anybody felt like something in them got healed? Because I did. I feel so warm after hearing this. I feel so much hope flowing, I'm feeling like ordering a Lamy Safari right now.
Nice. Relax. Sit and try to sketch the view you can see of the room or scenery or street view in ONE continuous line. Don’t fret just do it. No marks out of ten 😊
I love your loose sketches. I use lamy fountain pen and talens indian ink but the line weight is the same throughout my sketches. Can you help me out with what fountain pen and ink to use. Thank you.
ua-cam.com/video/JUy2_CuSMCI/v-deo.html Those are my favourite inks - if I'm using water soluble inks I just use cheap inks (Lamy, Waterman, etc.) For pens, check out my supplies link in the description I list a few there, and I have a blog on my website that goes into more depth.
This entire time I’ve been pressuring my self to make precise drawings using horizon line, point perspective & mathematics and it’s causing me a lot of worry. So it wouldn’t hurt to embrace change right?
Sooo. basicly sketch lightly and then retrace the lines you want to keep.. Okay.. what if your pen only had one line thickness, no matter how light you'd draw? what options would you have?
there are no pens I've encountered with only one line thickness... even very fine fine liners have variety. there is also more to variety than just weight
For me I love going straight in with pen - if this feels scary or stops you sketching then start with pencil. But I would encourage people to use less and less pencil :)
Check out sketchloose.co.uk If you want to join me in sketching loose :) happy sketching!
Hi!
Thank you for your advice!
What pen are you using please?
❤
@@Valentina-Steinway pretty sure it’s a Lamy (I have several) but I’d like to know what size nib and what sort of ink!
