This is so therapeutic. “Don’t be afraid” I am very afraid I have such bad anxiety drawing I don’t want to make a mistake or make it ugly. But I’ll never learn 😂. This is motivating me to start drawing again. Coming from super realistic drawing and idealistic “perfectionism” I want to be messy and loose. Like this

I know that it can be hard to just mess up the drawing a little bit and try to thing that it’s being “brave”. I would suggest that if you are just trying out a new drawing, if you want it to look good in a sketchbook, draw it on normal paper first. Once you are proud of that drawing, you can draw it in an actual sketchbook and have your lovely, non-messy picture inside the pages of a sketchbook. However if you want to make it messy, that’s fine to! :)😊

You can draw any time and no one ever has to even know :) just remember, you don’t have to make it a commitment, sometimes it’s just nice to do it for yourself especially when you’re getting back into it! Have fun and happy drawing ❤🎉

I have really bad perfectionism, too. What helped me was recognizing a need for what I called: Chaotic Energy Art. Its when what you really want is to use art as a therapy for your anxiety but your anxiety stops you from doing even that. So, recognizing this in myself I allowed myself to create "bad art". I mean, doodles and lines and scribbles with Crayola Crayons, cardboard, glitter, glue whatever is on hand like a 5 year old with finger paints. To get out the "nervous tension" about being "wrong" artistically. At first you'll have a blast and then you'll get bored and want to do something challenging, thats when you will have the confidence and relaxation from your "child-like" warmups to create something you really want to! Dont be afraid to do childish things sometimes! We have a stigma against it as adults but there's no one that knows how to relax more than a child, lol! We can learn from them :)

This is so valuable! I try to create a perfect visual sketch, and I think that's the problem. I need to make something that I can visualize and understand so that I can mold and build it into the final project. Even if it seems like a mess, as long as I can understand what I did, it's the right way. Trying to follow methods strictly sometimes can make us feel insecure and it's not always necessary. The sketch is there to help, it doesn't need to be perfect at first and methodical all of the time. We should be allowed to make mistakes and play with lines freely, it's way more fun to me, at least.
