After refilling the coolant you should hand rotate the pump until it's full. This lessens the chance of a seal failure due to air in the pump disrupting a smooth rotation.
You ladies are absolute pros! I greatly appreciate all of your videos. Super clever to use the tire iron for fan removal. The only confusing part of this video is how are your hands always so clean?! Thanks again!
Excellent video!!! Perfect explanation of process and hacks. You make it look easy. I am a shade tree almost decent mechanic who was happy to throw away my chilton's manuals after the creation of youtube. I have watched many videos for many different vehicles. This is one of the best ever. Long live the Astros. Thanks!!!
Ok so im flabbergasted definitely underrated video was not expecting such a great and informative way to work on my truck i usually refer to a visual perspective before doing a job i haven’t done before 🙏🏼
Former mechanic, used this video as a reference to do my 01 Astro's water pump today. Great video, super detailed, thorough explanations, and that's a really awesome simple trick to hold the pulley in place. One of the best repair guides I've seen on UA-cam
This is undoubtedly the very best video produced for demonstration. You ladies were exceptional in your manner of delivery, explanation, and execution of the steps. I was a pilot in the US ARMY, Warrant Officer. We were experiencing women for the first time coming into the Warrant Officer program . We were taught that the statistics showed women were competitive with men and sometimes better, executing emergency procedures. They were exacting and patient. Not excitable! You explained it all very well. I followed you perfectly. Job well done. I really appreciated how well organized you appeared, and you did not waste a lot of time talking about this and that. You executed the mission with no fat on it. Excellent!
Just changed mine on my 98 Astro... I followed your lead from start to finish, pausing/playing your video each step of the way. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together. Very thorough.
Besides the other comments, though the torques are easy enough to look up, I appreciate that you stated the required torques as you did it. Great video! Thank you.
Fantastic, getting ready to do mine so I thought I would see how much problem it is going to be. I haven't changed a water pump in probably 30 years. Great job. One little tip though, while you are in these change out all of your hoses especially the heater hoses. Nothing more aggravating then busting a hose a month after changing the water pump.
This is an awesome video. I have a 2003 chevrolet blazer but am considering buying a 1997 astro as a work van for plumbing. The one i currently am interested in needs a water pump. Because the engine is partially obscured by the cab of the van, I was thinking it was going to be significantly more difficult to get at. This video was really clear and straightforward and had great attention to detail. Great job on the video and may your astro take you to many cool new places!
Now I'm considering replacing the water pump myself in my 2000 Astro. I'm losing coolant and it's not a head gasket or radiator thing. Maybe I'll try Bar's Leak first. Great video but curious as to how long it took.
Info states you need a 21mm socket, I might of missed when they used it. Also I have never used that gasket adhesive, I'm guessing 2+ years later this pump is still going strong with no leaks.
I tried removing the cover of the ventilator a couple of minutes ago. It is not as easy as it looks. ;) Edit: But with two more helping hands, it is indeed easy.
I would like to see you remove and reinstall the 4 port Heater control valve and show precisely where the four (4) hoses go. One from the top of the water pump especially. 1998 Astro Van LT AWD, 4.3L L35 series engine. Vortec.
I'm about to swap my leaking pump on my 99 Safari, this video is SO MUCH better than all the others out there. Thank you! Does the idler get removed just so the pump can get removed/installed? Just a clearance issue?

Great video. Thanks for including socket sizes and torque values. Very helpful.

Wow! You did great. AND you didn't skip any steps at all. Anyone should be able to do the job with your instructions.
Thank you so much. Very clear and no BS like in so many other videos. I have no questions left. Other youtubers should learn from you.

I am just getting ready to do this jog so I have surfed UA-cam for advise. This is by far the most complete and clear video. Thank you!

So clear and detailed. I would never tackle that job before watching this. Maybe now I will.

Loved the very measured narration as the work progressed. I gotta do this on my van so this helps.
