THE PORIRUA WALK FOR JERRY COLLINS: 2015

Everyone will know where they were when they heard of the accident involving Porirua's very own, Jerry Collins and partner, Alana Madill.
June 5th 2015, will be a special date in the hearts of people who are family, friends and fans of the inspirational blind side flanker.
Another local boy, Wellington Lions team mate and friend, Ali Koko, who spent the majority of his professional career in France, was inspired by JERRYS French Club in Narbonne, who ran a "Silent March" in honour of their fallen comrade and drawing numbers of approx 1500 people.
"Thats what the French do to pay tribute to those special players in their club"
Koko called through to Porirua City Councillor, former Norths and Black Fern representative, Izzy Ford and shared the idea and from these 2, the committee was formed and the idea became a reality.
The turnout was INCREDIBLE and everyone from all neighbouring suburbs in Wellington came to walk in support of the Porirua icon.
Some came as far as Hawkes Bay, Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney and I personally know of 2 who are coming from Hong Kong to farewell their Brother in Arms.
Theres no debating JERRY COLLINS impact on Porirua and the International Rugby Community, this accounts for the reason as to why so many heart felt messages of support and mourning are pouring into this city.
The walk which started from WAITANGIRUA MALL right through to PORIRUA TRUST PARK, where JERRY started his Legendary rise, attracted just over 3000 people and they were FANTASTIC!!
It was a sea of Blue that filled the Porirua streets in the East and the Grandstand at the park was packed, as the rails by the field where Jerry put on some of his biggest hits.
We retired Jerrys Jersey for the season, reminisced and then left the park, back to our cars at starting point.
It was an amazing turn out and on behalf of the committee, WE THANK YOU ALL NEAR & FAR FOR YOUR UNDYING SUPPORT!
Jerry would be overwhelmed and proud.
Baby Ayla is still putting on a brave fight so please pray and continue your support for her during this difficult time.
