My first time seeing U2 was the summer 85 Milton Keynes bowl around the time of live aid just starting as becoming the biggest band in the world crowed 50000 plus i was 16 but have been a fan from the under the blood sky album
U2 was THE band of the 80s in the U.S. And they were even better live than in the studio. From their festival performances (like for Amnesty International and Live Aid) to their own arena & stadium gigs, they had a unique sound that was ahead of its time & put on some of the best shows of the decade and on into the 90s. Still rocking today, in fact. U2 ♥
Back in the day when the album format reigned so supreme, U2 was very cognizant of where their Side As & Side Bs were in the track listing. They knew people were stopping, picking up the record, and physically flipping it over. So, they would often intentionally place transitional songs at the end of Side A (like here) . . . or even, short "palette cleanser" type songs to start Side B (e.g. 4th of July on TUF) to be attune to & further develop the listener's experience. It's a shame that none of that extra care & artistry translates over today with digital music & streaming, etc.
The music here has a very spaghetti western, spanish feel to it in the main rhythm imo. Pretty cool. If the vocals were removed, the music sounds like a soundtrack of suspense that builds to this dramatic conclusion.

Rick Beato selected it as one of those wonderful songs with perfect melody. It's a grower.
