Hey Chaps! Do you own an iPad (and what do you use it for most)?? (New iPad prices are pretty crazy, but there are some good deals on Amazon right now - links in description)
I have a 12.9 inch second gen pro. It still works fine, somehow even with battery life, though it's showing its age with some backlight bleed on the edges of the left side of the display. All I really use it for at this point is googling stuff and playing music, so I haven't really seen a need for anything newer. I've had it for five years now. I expected the battery to need replacing before now, but when I checked with apple support and had them run a diagnostic, they said it was in good health, probably because it's been pretty lightly used. I'd like one of these fancy new pros, because I'm a huge nerd, but for my use case, it's just not a need. Maybe when they finally drop mine from iOS support.
I bought my first iPad ever, the mini! Wanted it as a stronger, more versatile Kindle replacement. Haven't once regretted it. The size was exactly what I wanted and it runs beautifully.
What’s funny is most iPad reviews always show things most of us never use, because you know we would just get a 12.9 pro m2 only to end up playing UA-cam videos and playing games 😂
@@tronam that’s why videos showing comparisons are good, because tech companies make it out you need the latest and best devices when the truth is only very few people use or need the power of the newer devices. I have the original iPad 2 from I think 2011 or 2012? And it still works fine, it’s just that apple don’t support the software anymore. The first base iPad he showed is more then perfect for most of us who don’t edit vids/music etc I don’t think I’ve ever took a photo with the iPad either lol So if you just like to watch content or play games even the Amazon tablets which are much cheaper more then suffice…and damn that “tech guilt”

I’ll keep my iPad 9th gen, the 10th is too expensive and sincerely doesn’t seems to deserve the change. I’m a teacher and with the base iPad I do everything I need, it’s smooth, fast and light, and it do almost the same things of his more expensive brothers.
I picked up the 9th Gen last month. (My first iPad!) Best decision ever. I use it primarily for emails, scheduling, signing PDFs, basic social media content editing (images, video and gifs), Netflix, etc. It’s the perfect size. If I need a bigger screen or more power, I shift to my MacBook Pro. I bought the Logitech tough combo case and crayon as well - both work seamlessly with the iPad. I don’t care for surround speakers. I use BT earbuds. The non-laminated screen is a non-issue. I’m not drawing with it. The screen glare is easily fixed with a non-reflective screen protector. The battery life is exceptional. Like another user said in the comments, the majority of users will never use half the functions of tier 1 iPads. Think about what you’ll use it for, before falling for the marketing hype.
I was going to get the iPad 9 and I use my iPad for the same purposes as you, but I didn’t love the old school design so I got the iPad Air 5. I really wish I waited a year and got the iPad 10 lol. The design of the 9 was the only reason I didn’t get it
@@Hello-ho3zn I agree. But it really depends on your use for it. For my use the air is better but unnecessary powerful for my use, the iPad 9 or 10 were viable options for my purposes. But they arent really future proof as they are outdated from launch day. So I think I made the right decision in the long run
@@afifatus4556 yes it is but assuming your Bluetooth device is less then 1 foot away, you’re not going to transfer data through it, or need to connect to 2 device at once, Bluetooth 4 is enough, because if your needs fall within these conditions bluetooths 5 increase data speed, range, and speed are negated to the point it’s not noticeable.
I just got the 11” M2 pro running iPadOS 16.2 beta. My goal is for it to be able to handle my entire workflow as an accounting firm owner while eliminating my usage of two devices (MacBook and iPad mini previously). So far so good, I might add. The 12.9” is too chunky for travel and I typically use the device screen to view documents. Using the pencil to mark up bank statements and other docs is a game changer
Really interested in your comment as I’m looking to do the same thing. How do you find spreadsheets, coming from Windows, the idea of a weakened Excel is the one thing that puts me off (I do use Power Pivot and BI which I don’t think work on Office for Mac)
I just purchased the m2 pro 11 as well… and same reason for me to not choose the 12.9 was just too much to carry… I feel like to carry a 13 inch around I might as well just carry a laptop…
For me, it’s simple. The degree of laptop replacement and the fact that I’m replacing a ready-to-be-retired iPad Pro gen 2 puts me strongly in the current generation Pro 12.9. For the mix of engineering, documenting, and pro audio work I do with it I really do need the screen real estate. Plus, the fact that I tend to keep my iPads until they die of old age is a pretty big factor in the justification. That said, I would tend to agree with you. Either the iPad Air with the M1 or the iPad Mini for a small tablet really fits what most people will need.
I was gifted an iPad 9th Generation when it first came out last year and I love it. I'm a 20 year old uni student with an Xbox for gaming, my phone for mobile stuff, and my Surface laptop for school, so the iPad is really just something I use for UA-cam, mobile games, Procreate, and sometimes some light college work. I have the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case for it with the Apple Pencil and it's great. Considering I bought the keyboard case for only $60 on an eBay auction (sealed) and the Apple Pencil as well for only $40, this thing is great. The other iPads are cool and all but realistically I have my other devices that can do everything else the higher end models would be needed for.
From my hands-on experience: If you want a full size screen and don’t need a bunch of accessory support, go iPad 9. If you’re still budget minded and want Magic Keyboard/Pencil 2 support, go iPad Air 4. If you want a truly handheld tablet, then go with the Mini 6. If you need anything beyond a 128gb or 256gb iPad Pro, then get a MacBook.
I use my mini 6 for travel, out of house use, or gaming. The IPad 10 Gen (pink!) for home & downtime content consumption. The iPad Air 5 only for work- I don’t like to mix work and personal devices. 😅
I'm planning on getting an iPad mini for Christmas, but I will be taking advantage of an option where I can buy now and pay over time so I don't have to drop 400-600 all at once. I've used my old mini for years, but it finally stopped receiving updates recently and so I decided its time for a new one. I mostly use it for watching videos and reading, especially on longer plane rides. The slightly shorter battery life for the mini doesn't bother me a ton, just because I rarely use my iPad for more than a couple hours at a time.
Completely agree with the iPad Air if you were buying new, however I’m leaning towards a last gen iPad Pro M1 12.9” as I think that fits my requirements a lot better and hopefully as it’s the M1 chip may even last a little longer.
It’s ridiculous that the base iPads still don’t support the pencil 2. That is done on purpose by Apple. There is no other reason to leave the support out.
I wish basic iPads, including the Air, featured the 12.9" screen. For music reading and note taking, and also college textbooks, the bigger screen plays a significant role.
Really enjoying my refurbed 2018 12.9. I was aware of my bias towards the new when buying, without taking into account that any upgrade from 2015 10.5 would be an improvement. When I realised that I felt way better. It's sometimes about reframing the purchase rather than following Apple's marketing lead.
Just upgraded to a m2 12.9 iPad Pro with 256gb from a 2018 12.9 pro with 256gb. Let me say I don’t regret it a bit. I use my iPad every day for work as a housing inspector and immediately I noticed just how much faster it is. My 2018 never really felt that slow, but things have definitely changed since I first got it and the 8 gb vs 2 or 3 gb of ram is nice. Haven’t seen an app have to refresh itself yet. And the wide angle camera, for me at least, was I big reason I upgraded. I take thousands of pictures inside homes and being able to not have to pull out my iPhone for a wide angle to actually see the room is very nice. I was actually consider going down to a mini with 5g, but I tested the camera in the store and it was just too narrow. If Apple would put the camera setup from the normal iPhone I would buy one in a heart beat.
Hi! I’m looking into this model and I hope you can answer; since I don’t have the router that the specs say is needed for 6E WiFi, will the iPad Pro 12.9” just *not work* on any less powerful WiFi networks? (sorry if I sound really dens in asking, I just am trying to determine if this device can still connect to non-6E WiFi routers, which is likely the case pretty much everywhere I use WiFi. Any advice you can provide, please?
@@aerclyyonr Yes, it's backwards compatible with non-6E routers. I have no 6E compatible routers around me at all and have never faced any wifi issues on the ipad pro m2.
I have been looking closely at the iPad Air, but I have been torn with the option of a refurbished iPad Pro 3rd Gen. Both have the M1 chip but you get the Pro camera and Thunderbolt 4 for about the same price. A well refurbished Pro vs. a brand new Air is not an easy choice, but I am leaning toward the Pro.
I'd go with the air 5 mate, why get an older model almost 5 years old which has been discontinued now when you can get the latest one with which will have better support in the long run I was deciding between the 9 10 and air 4 5 Went with the Air 5 That M1 Chip will last you very long alongside the updated 2022 Air 5 architecture
Get the pro. Like you said, both have the M1 chip, and 120hz is a huge bonus. You’re essentially exchanging the brand new unboxing experience for more features at the same price.
I myself picked up a refurbished iPad Pro 11 256GB 2018 for $650AUD (420USD). Only for media consumption, but you gotta love that 120hz! Also, even being a few years old it's still super fast and handles anything I throw at it :)
@@jackattack9696 Personally, I prefer the smaller bezels and 120hz screen (I’m picky with my displays). I knew I’ll never use it for “professional” use, hence why I got the 2018 model. If you can find it for a great price I’d say go for it, performance wise between this and the Air 4 I can’t compare you’ll have to do your own research. But I don’t believe there is that noticeable of a difference, but it comes down to what you use it for.

I am currently using an iPad mini 3 and it has served me really well for the past 7 years and I'm just mainly using it for reading, watching videos and linking to my sound system to stream music. I am still partially undecisive if I should upgrade to the air or stick with the mini. On one hand I would love a bigger screen watching videos on the go as I do travel a lot but on the other I love the portability of the mini.
7 years of sticking to mini 3 that much more longer than my relationship 😂😂 give yourself a pat on the back and time to reward yourself a better And bigger screen maybe mid ranger entry iPad happy hunting

I’m on the iPad hunt now, as I’d love to gift my grandma an iPad for FT capability with our family, and for easy google and reading access as she wishes. Figured it’s best I upgrade to the iPad Air and give her my iPad Pro - than buy her a refurbished model of the 2016 release that is still no cheaper than $175. I’ve been perfectly content with mine for the last 6 years and could go longer with it - but I truly think gifting my grandmother it would be a great gift. ☺️
Stay with mini 3,no point of buying new,use it till the time its dead,no point in wasting money and new ipads are flashy and few new features,but no heavenly features but only price
I use an Ipad Mini since 2012. Mine is a stubborn little thing that won't die. I'm grateful for it because I can't afford even a refurbished one at this time. Things are rough but I sure love my mini! I accidentally dropped it off my balcony. Twice! It's got a cracked screen on most of the left side. Honestly, my only issue is that it can't be updated past IOS 12. Now I can't even update my apps like CVS and Amazon. So I can't use them at all now. If it wasn't for my Mini losing access to apps, then I'd honestly just be fine with me & my mini having a few more years together. It's like having a dog in a weird way. It's been by my side every day for almost eleven years! Just like my dog, Bones. Fuck I am stoned! I should've been asleep ours ago but eh it's Saturday.
Walmart was selling the 4th generation iPad air for $350. They're sold out online now, but $350 for an iPad air 4th gen is absolutely the best deal. You might still be able to pick one up locally.
I picked up the iPad mini 6 when it was released to replace my aging mini 5. For me it's the perfect content consumption device and a great companion to my recently acquired MacBook Air.
This is a great video mate ! I honestly feel that each iPad launched by Apple targets a different consumer base. According to me -: The iPad 9th and 10th Gen are good "budget" replacements for laptops. If you need to replace your computer and are willing to spend money then the Air 5 serves that purpose. For content creation and people willing to spend too much money the Pros are good. If a person already has a working PC in good condition then I feel that a Mini should be good for on the go devices
I loved your review. Very honest, by the way. Last year I almost fell into the trap of buying an Ipad as a laptop replacement, but the truth is a tablet will never be as complete as a computer. Sure I would enjoy having an Ipad, but it's not necessary
I think stage manager, and the bigger 12.9 screen size definitely helps. But at that price, i'd get a Macbook Pro 14! I don't think it can fully replace a laptop though
For me, as someone looking to move on from an old 2017 pro, the Air 5 is probably my best bet. Suits my usage needs today, and will easily last me until 2024 when we will probably see more substantial upgrades to the line. With refirb, renewed, and used "Like New" options out there, the price is very reasonable.
@@mtunayucer I disagree. I play competitive fps games and my monitor is 360hz. My phone is 60hz and feels completely fine. If you’ve never used 120hz or above, it doesn’t matter. If you’ve used 120hz, it might take some time to get used to 60hz until it doesn’t matter.

I've had a lot of experience with iPads, beginning with the Gen 1. When paired with a decent keyboard, they are just about the perfect writing machine. I've learned that there are two factors that make me want to get a new one -- battery life, which does deteriorate after a few years, and storage space. After a few years, you will fill up your storage, and iCloud, for all its convenience, is not as useful as having files on device. For me, the one to get is the cheapest one with the most storage. That would be the 9th gen with 256gb.
I think you should do a video for iPad shoppers who want to shop for a used and/or refurbished/renewed late-model iPad. I would also like to see a more detailed review of the 6th-gen iPad Mini, including available Apple and aftermarket accessories.
I chose the 11" M1 Pro with MKB and Pencil for business travel personal tech. I have a waterproof, protective shoulder bag. The iPad fits very snugly in a dedicated, deeply padded sleeve with reinforced corners. The separate zipped sleeve is packed with USB-C to USB-C and Ethernet cables (not all foreign hotels have WiFi), a dongle with SD and TF card ports, 2 x USB-C ports (one charging, the other data), 2 x USB-A, Ethernet and HDMI, a 20W USB-C charging wall wart with folding UK pins, a 1 TB SanDisk Portable Extreme SSD, iPods Pro and a 20,000 mAH power bank (the largest you can legally take on board a plane). This is really light and portable, and it easily fits under an airline seat while my laptop bag goes in overhead storage (this also contains plug adaptors for anywhere in the world). I borrowed a friend's 12" Pro to do an experiment, and with the MKB fitted, it's just not as portable and light as the 11". So I'm sticking with the 11". I will not be upgrading to the M2 until apps start to come out that really tax the M1.
Got the iPad 10 about a month ago and I love it! Mainly use it for streaming movies and music and gaming. Don’t really care too much about anything else.
Thanks for the reviews of all the options/choices. I'll be picking up a Mini 6 in a few days, now pre-planning & searching for accessory advice & deals. This will be my first time using a cellular model- but it will be my 3rd Mini in 10 years, all purchased primarily for extended travel: A Mini 1 (2013) was used for a few weeks in Europe (attracted a lot of curious stares at the time), then was taken along on many trips into Mexico. My Euro travel companion also bought one- we loved the size, weight, and ease of use. It wasn't until a holiday trip to Amsterdam in 2016 that the Mini 1 processor began struggling with IOS updates, so I bought a Mini 4 (2018) and used it intensively for 2 weeks in NZ . Both models worked flawlessly on these trips- I can't imagine traveling with anything else. A big reason is size: I can carry a Mini in one hand, it fits easily into small bags/purse/briefcase, allowed for comfortable inflight movie streaming/email work etc. on long flights- without taking up the entire seat back tray- and can fit in a large pocket in situations where backpacks/large bags are not allowed (a possibility in some museum venues). I'd like to think the mini's small size attracted less attention for potential thievery- and all this is possible with the quality & capability of much larger devices. Finally- I agree a magic keyboard would be very useful. (I've used Zagg products while waiting for that to happen) and may get the pencil for scribbling field notes. (I use Notes every day, and love that the Information is available on all my Apple devices as I move from one location/tablet/phone/Imac to another.) So even after hearing your review: I'm still all-in for the Mini.
I haven't even watched the video & I'm ready to purchase a mini, based off your review alone. Lol. I own a super old iPad from 2012. And I still love it, but it has lots of wear & tear plus I need something more compact.
Love my mini. I mainly use it as a digital notebook. Great for writing notes and digital art. An Air would be more comfortable for creating art. But I’m more of a hobbyist than a professional.
I just got the iPad 10th gen with cellular, it was on sale for 1/2 off and a free year of 5G cellular service, so I decided to upgrade from my 1st gen iPad Pro, I’m absolutely love the 10th gen, the cameras are so much better than my old iPad Pro, it’s super fast compared to what I’m used too, and the screen is super bright for me, I also love the metallic blue color as well, it just pops, I just do mainly watching videos and playing games, and look on the internet and some photography and fly my drone with it and it has done everything with no problems at all
I hate it when people say that the non laminated screen is a downside, thanks to being non laminated it is also a lot cheaper to replace, so it’s more of a double edge sword than a downside.
I'm a systems design engineer in renewable heating for people's homes solar, air ,water and ground source heat pumps. I use an macbook pro while I'm sat at my desk but if I have to shoot of to a survey I take my 11 pro with me it just works. For years I always said Apple is more for work than play until now.

For a lot of travel vloggers and content creators the mini and the air hit the sweet spot. Can edit 4k video, small and light weight, but bigger than the phone if you want a nicer screen for your drone

Just about every you tube & read up on the comparison has led me back to what you have now just confirmed for me. I am going to go w/ YES You said it the Ipad Air 5th Gen. So now I have no doubts in my mind anymore on what to Choose. I want to Thank you for for helping me feel Great about my decision. I have ended up with both 6th & 8th Gen iPads, and an iPad Air 4th gen. Obviously, the Air is the best of the bunch, but I find I can go back & forth between them without any problems. I use them for basic consumption of media for the most part, which I think lots of people do. I have an iPhone 14 ProMax if I need that kind of power, and a M1 iMac. I'm constantly surprised how excited I am with a new Apple product, yet end up disappointed that it's not THAT much different than the previous model. Enjoyed your review, & I think if someone is buying a new iPad, I agree that the Air is future proof for some time to come, and more than capable for the average consumer. Buy what you need, right? And not many people need to spend several thousand $$ on a tablet.
Hi! I want to buy an iPad mainly for note taking. I am not a gamer and have no other requirements from iPad that need heavy processing. Should I buy iPad 9? I am very new to this and don't understand future proofing. Does that mean my device will completely stop working after a few years? That's why I am so confused between Air5 and Gen9.
@@tanvi5378 it wont necessarily "stop working", it just means that important software updates in the future wont support your ipad model edit: you shld definitely get the ipad 9 gen imo :)
@@tanvi5378 The 9th would work fine for you. I would suggest a non Apple brand keyboard & even perhaps pencil if you get the 9th gen. It would be counterintuitive to buy the lower price, older iPad, then spend lots of money on Apple's highly priced keyboard. Honestly, I wouldn't even buy their keyboard for the 10th gen.
Just bought last year's 11" ipad pro as a replacement for my 2015 12.9" ipad pro. I mostly use my ipad for art, content consumption, and some gaming. I just couldn't stomache the price of the price of the 12.9" ipad pro. Also I wanted a more portable device. I love my 12.9" but is a bit cumbersome to carry around. The portability plus the price of the 11" ipad pro makes it the right option for me, I think 🤔. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your videos!

My son bought me a new iPad 10th gen to replace my 6th gen ipad which I was happy with. I am disappointed it doesn’t have a headphone socket. I like to listen to music using high quality headphones instead of the crappy built speakers. Apart from having a bigger storage hard drive it lacks the home button which I prefer. I use it for browsing, emails and social media. My win computer is my dedicated DAW recording computer. I do like the editing and copy/ paste functions seem to be better with this new iPad. But all in all was happy with my old 2018 ipad.
only option for me is one of the pros. once you are used to 120hz screens its pretty strange to go back. and with the 12.9 being sooo huge the 11" iPad Pro is the only way to go for me. sadly there are no sales or cheap options for the m1 version and as it got the nearly the same price as the m2 i got this.
That’s something I immediately noticed. I got the 9th Gen yesterday for Christmas because I was looking for something cheaper, but also good enough to use just for watching movies/UA-cam, reading, and art. But wow, going from my 14 Pro Max 120hz back to a 60hz screen is so freaky and slightly annoying. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but it’s currently my only dislike of the iPad.
I have two. The older one is a 10.5” gen 2 pro with gen 1 pencil. I bought it for note taking when I moved to digital notes. It’s great, runs fine, but was too small for note taking and currently is used for UA-cam and recipes in the kitchen. I bought it used or refurbished, don’t remember exactly. I also have a 12.9”, the last gen before M1, whatever that is. I have the gen2 pencil with it, and it’s my daily driver for note taking and reading. I keep it in my backpack or at my work station. I bought it used and had planned on trying to sell the older one, but ended up keeping both. For my uses I don’t need a lot of storage. I think I have 256gb on both and it’s more than I need, but you only get one shot at it, so I don’t regret my choice there. Super happy with the devices. I think if I were to just get a media consumption device new, it would probably be the air.
I have a iPad Pro 11 first gen that I use frequently for media consumption, journaling and web browsing. Got a iPad mini 6 as a gift recently, which I use to read things at bed time, and also to check work updates in the day. Love my iPad Pro, it’s the first gen but it’s working well and is still really fast!
I have numerous I pad- iphones-mac pro etc and I think the real advantage of getting the 12.9 Ipad pro over the mac pro laptop is the touch screen. Can't stand that Mac doesn't make its laptops with touch screens. There is no reason not to have this upgraded tec specs of touch screen so for me I have a macbook air but to replace my mac book pro I went with the ipad pro with the magic keyboard and I love it! If you are wanting a mac laptop spring for an I pad with the keyboard even though expensive you will love it.
for me the pencil hover is the option that I want to switch my air m1 to m2 pro :v for someone who uses ipad for drawing it's a killing feature, I think you underrated this one :D
The only thing making me want the 12.9" iPad Pro is the big screen, just so it's more comfy to make great handwritten notes. If there was a non-pro version of it with a larger screen (albeit a 12.9" iPad Air), I would definitely just go for that instead. Also, I do own the iPad Air 4 which at the time I did have a little buyer's remorse.. but lmao it's nice to actually hear someone recommend this model somehow. Idk. 🤣
@@derekanderson8659 Not OP, but it there was a short window between iPad Air 4 and 5. The M1 chip in the 5 is my buyers remorse. That being said, it's a very capable device and I use it a lot.
I ended up with an M2 iPad 11 with LTE. The size was the ultimate draw because it fits in my sling bag and though it is on the heavier size, the small size makes it very easy to grab and go when I'm doing work. Remoting into servers, using a jump box for network configs and such don't really need the power of an M2 but as the LTE models are already pricey, I decided against the older gen and as I'm a speed reader and read a lot of documentations, the 120hz screen makes a massive difference when skimming through documentation. Add in the paperlike screen protector with the apple pencil and it's a delight to write and sketch on. I wish the magic keyboard had a proper escape key and a function row, but it's not too hard to get around it. Only other complaints are not proper support for a platform agnostic KVM, no extended monitor (would like 2 external please) and just general Apple tax. Outside of that it's been a brilliant addition to my kit and has freed me from feeling trapped to a desk and being able to work from just about anywhere. Now if only there was a way I could use my ZFold as a 2nd monitor for the iPad.... Oddly I use it almost purely for work. I generally prefer the small size of the Mini or the ZFold for most of my mobile media consumption and prefer to just game on my Switch, if mobile, or just game at my desktop.
I'm a iPad 9 owner and I'm rocking this bad boy and it's prefect for my usage which is media consumption and university stuff. it's honestly more than enough.
I got a good deal on an M1 Pro 11 inch brand new for $600. It’s essentially the same price as the Air but with all the Pro benefits. I don’t think I’m missing anything really in getting last years model.
I want the 12.9 just for the screen tech, tho I think an 11" is the optimal size still being travel friendly. Also, the new more expensive price hits hard for something I agree as nice but not essential.
Thank you so much for this. Folks want to get me something for Christmas and didn't really have a list. So I decided I only would like to have 1 gift. NEVER had an iPad and thought its time to finally get one. However, now money is tight (as I'm sure for everyone). Didn't need anything super fancy, but at the same time I know I'll use it quite a bit. Nothing for a job, but simple things like play games, use internet, watch anime, take a few pictures, and music. Compared and contrast and made my decision for iPad Air 5th gen. Hesitant because its still a bit expensive but also not compared to others. Was hesitating in making my request and reviews I got was mixed. But I watched your video and it helped me confirm my decision before the holidays. Your video was simple, concise, and to the point. So thanks a bunch for your video!!!!
One thing I would point out, if you are like me and keep your devices for a long time before upgrading (5-7 years), you might want the newest battery you can get and wifi 6e. There may be very few 6e signals available now. But, give it a few years and they may be common. Then, you may want to have the technology to use it. Also, the newer the battery, all the much better. If you buy a model that is a year or two old, you may find your battery having a much shorter cycle when it is older. Yet, you may not be ready to replace it. I suppose an alternative way to go is to get an older version, save a chunk of cash, and upgrade more often, but I haven’t committed myself to such a strategy yet. I’ll give it some thought before I upgrade next. I think the savings must be quite substantial for this to be sensible. My apologies if someone has already made the points. I don’t have the time to read all of the posts and replies.
I'll just chime in here with my review of the iPad Pro M2, I absolutely love it. I use it 90% of the time for work. It handles Photoshop great, Lightroom is solid, the battery life is amazing even when using apps light Photoshop with the brightness high. The USB-C charges very fast using my Anker high wattage chargers, and the speakers have a great decibel output. I travel often, so I went with the 11", vs 12", and I have zero regrets on that decision. Hope this helps make your decision!

Tom, good video. I still have 2 original "iPads" that work. They do last forever until Apple denies you specific apps like UA-cam and require newer OS to work. Built in obsolescence from Apple is awful. These prices should not be considered "good" and even the M1 Air will only be valid for 4 years. These are a lot of money.
I just upgraded from the iPad Mini 4 from the Mini 4 as I do not need a full size iPad for my needs. I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch that serves as my full time laptop so no need for an iPad with a keyboard.the Apple Pencil is perfect for taking notes and doodling. I can easily take it with me daily without needing to carry a bag.
I’m going for the new Air. I have had my existing air for a decade and still love it so that seems best for me :-) thanks for the videos to help me realize I didn’t really need the big bad pro model :-) saved me enough to buy the keyboard with my Air!!

It definitely depends on what you'll be using your iPad for. I'm not using it for video or audio creation, I use my MacBook Pro for that, which I also use for my full-stack software developer job. I just upgraded from the iPad 9 to the iPad 10 and I like it, the home button is finally gone (I mean, that thing has been around since the iPhone 3 at least lol). The sound is also a lot better, I always found the iPad 9's sound to be kind of squeaky, ear-piercing and not stereo when in landscape mode, which is probably the most used orientation. I also got a nice $180 USD trade-in value for my iPad 9, which is nice after having it for over a year. In the end, it definitely depends on what you're planning to do on the device, and the budget you have. To each their own, cheers 🍻
my only dislike of ipad10 is that you cant directly charge your apple pencil at your iPad anymore due to the port change so you need to carry/buy a new a dongle for it instead of just plug it into the iPad. so i'm sticking with my ipad9 for now until its time to buy a new one ahahahah

Hi, this may seem like a dumb question, but does the iPad Pro 12.9” work on all non-6E WiFi networks? I suspect it would have to, but since I don’t have the specified router and it’s likely that nowhere else I connect to WiFi would either, I’m trying to get a clear answer before upgrading to this model. I'm a committed iPad user. I just replaced my Mini 5 with the full-size 9th generation, because I wanted the larger screen and because I wanted to get the 9th gen before it was discontinued. I definitely wanted the conventional headphone jack, which is stereo, by the way. I got it with the max memory and the cellular access. The latter is essential, in my opinion, because wi-fi is not always available when you need to use it. I also bought a pencil and smart keyboard, even though I may not use either for some time, for the sake of completeness. Finally, I bought a 3rd-party messenger bag and a protective case, because the bag I used for my Mini won't do. I have to be able to travel with it, so I need to ensure that it is secure in transit. I have never had an iPhone. I do banking on my iPad, and two-factor authorization goes to my flip phone. If you do everything on an iPhone, your bank accounts are more vulnerable. Using a smart phone for everything is not smart, in my opinion.
Xiaomi Pad 5 works as well. Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 (nice short name, right?) has OLED 120 Hz display as is still cheaper than most of those. But all-in-all... iPads are still capable. Yet that is just because the whole tablet market is pretty lazy on substantial upgrades.
My iPad 8 is still going strong. For how I use my iPad 32g will be enough for a long time. Amazes me how iOS optimizes storage. I found a blue tooth keyboard case for $30. It is designed so the part that holds the iPad can spin in a 360 degree arch,so the case with keyboard can be used in portrait or landscape position.
I think iPad Pro 11 is better deal over Air. You get double the storage, M2 chip, better camera, better audio, slightly better screen, proMotion, lidar scanning, and Apple Pencil hover. For the small price bump I think that makes it a far far better deal, and it's a bit more future proof with that extra storage and horsepower.
All many people does is watch Netflix, youtube, insta. For that A11 BIONIC itself is more than enough. Why tf they get M2 for watching videos lol. It's their personal choice though.

The iPad Pro with 128GB was 935€ on amazon while the iPad Air (256gb model, as 64gb isn‘t enough for me) is around 890-900€. So I rather pay the 40 bucks more and get the pro model with all the benefits mentioned above.

However if you wanted the ipad air 64gb model, you would have saved a lot money as compared to buying the ipad pro.
I prioritize the promotion display and superior sound. So it’s one of the two Pro models for me. The 11 inch is big enough and also cheaper, so that’s my choice. I also decided to go with a refurbished 2021 from Apple to save another $270 (CAD). That paid for a new second gen pencil and iPad cover.
Crazy, but I had the original ipad air and that thing was beautiful for about 2 years. After one of the major ios updates, it turned into a toasted overnight. Couldn't even do the simplest multitask without lagging. It was rough. From that, Ive always been skeptical about things "lasting a long time".
I think think some Companies do the updates on Purpose to put a lag bug or some type of bug to defect their product, so people keep Spending more Money to Upgrade So they can keep making the $$$$$. I have thought of a this. Then I watched a video from a woman who said she worked for a Big Phone Brand Company, & that is why they keep doing the updates. To eventually by the time you get to the 3rd, 4th or 5th update & so on. It Screws up your Phone, Tablet or whatever it may be. Now it's time to invest in a newer one. 😌🤔 GodBless😊

I wish I have one. I am currently in my first year in college taking a BS in Mathematics. I struggle a lot with my slow and old laptop. I am certain that an iPad will help me to become more productive and save resources as I spent so many papers on my mathematical solutions. I bought an iPad Mini 5th Gen in 2020 for my great niece and due to her dropping it in the bath, the insurance replaced it with the 6th gen version. She is very happy with it! In a few more years she may use it for more than Disney Plus and CBeebies and other simple stuff thanks to Apples' long support for their products.

Almost a laptop replacement except when it comes to file management. Just try moving files between your iPad and other remote computers, nas drives etc or even just writing some text or code and saving the text file to somewhere on your network. Sometimes you can get it to work a little on but don’t rely on it. Try downloading a file and then moving it to somewhere else on your network! So many things require you to put down the iPad and go to a computer when you could just do it from your android phone in seconds.
Here in the UAE amazon sells the iPad pro 3rd gen with 128GB is only 100 dirhams more than the iPad Air 5th gen 256GB, so I'd rather go with the pro, one more thing Tom thanks for a great it was nice watching one of your iPad comparison videos again. Keep it up, man!
This helped me with my decision to buy a iPad during early boxing day sales. I decided to go big. Except last gen big. The ipad pro 12.9 6th gen 128gb is $1500 CAD. The 5th gen is currently $1150 CAD. Only difference is the last gen is rocking the m1 chip. What I plan to use it for, I don't think I'll need a m2 chip for.
As a non content creator and after hours of checking out videos: iPad 9th Gen has better value for money than all the others. You get the iPad experience for a lot less. If you are planning to edit some videos every now and then and you need a little bit more processing power or you want to draw having the feeling of the pen drawing directly on the screen then the iPad Air 4 is the next best thing.
I feel like spending the extra money for the air 5 might be worth it considering maybe being able to sell it easyly in a few years since there Still would be demand… such a difficult choice with the current line up for me

Keyboard folio with spillproof keyboard $129, Crayon which is their pencil that charges USB C $69, Pebble Bluetooth mouse $39 For just surfing the web or watching movies on the go I have a IPad 10th gen
Id go for the 12.9 m1. They are currently heavily discounted for the black friday sale. And m2 doesn't seem to be a major upgrade. Though I might go down to the 11 if i find a great deal.

For me I picked up a iPad Pro 11 inch m1. For Lightroom and media it’s much more responsive than my slightly older xps 13 thinner and has better battery life. It was cheaper (used) and is smaller and lighter for when I travel. The only thing I miss over a laptop is the keyboard but at home I have a pc and cheap Bluetooth keyboard is cheeeap.
when i started working from home, the iPad became such a useful tool to where i never touch my iPhone. i work from my Mac, my iPad is used for secondary purposes at my desk. also, on tp of that, all the personal use for it.
Purchased the 12.9 and will be using it as a laptop as well. It’s my first iPad but I wanted the biggest screen. I also got the 2 Tb storage. My moto is: Only the best or not at all.

My iPhone 12 Pro Max has 256GB, but I’m guessing software would take up more space on the iPad Pro or Ultra than it does on my phone; especially when adding other apps and any projects that I would want to accomplish for work as well as downtime activities. My plan is to save starting now for the 2023 Ultra & extra storage; then have the option to buy the 2022 12.9 Pro as a backup plan. I have a 12.9 inch second gen pro. It still works fine, somehow even with battery life, though it's showing its age with some backlight bleed on the edges of the left side of the display. All I really use it for at this point is googling stuff and playing music, so I haven't really seen a need for anything newer. I've had it for five years now. I expected the battery to need replacing before now, but when I checked with apple support and had them run a diagnostic, they said it was in good health, probably because it's been pretty lightly used.
I'd like one of these fancy new pros, because I'm a huge nerd, but for my use case, it's just not a need. Maybe when they finally drop mine from iOS support.
I bought my first iPad ever, the mini! Wanted it as a stronger, more versatile Kindle replacement. Haven't once regretted it. The size was exactly what I wanted and it runs beautifully.
Except that the reason you get the Kindle is for the E-ink display and with the ipad you get a regular screen full of glare.

I have the original iPad 2 from I think 2011 or 2012? And it still works fine, it’s just that apple don’t support the software anymore. The first base iPad he showed is more then perfect for most of us who don’t edit vids/music etc I don’t think I’ve ever took a photo with the iPad either lol So if you just like to watch content or play games even the Amazon tablets which are much cheaper more then suffice…and damn that “tech guilt”

I’ll keep my iPad 9th gen, the 10th is too expensive and sincerely doesn’t seems to deserve the change. I’m a teacher and with the base iPad I do everything I need, it’s smooth, fast and light, and it do almost the same things of his more expensive brothers.

I picked up the 9th Gen last month. (My first iPad!) Best decision ever. I use it primarily for emails, scheduling, signing PDFs, basic social media content editing (images, video and gifs), Netflix, etc. It’s the perfect size. If I need a bigger screen or more power, I shift to my MacBook Pro. I bought the Logitech tough combo case and crayon as well - both work seamlessly with the iPad. I don’t care for surround speakers. I use BT earbuds. The non-laminated screen is a non-issue. I’m not drawing with it. The screen glare is easily fixed with a non-reflective screen protector. The battery life is exceptional. Like another user said in the comments, the majority of users will never use half the functions of tier 1 iPads. Think about what you’ll use it for, before falling for the marketing hype.
I was going to get the iPad 9 and I use my iPad for the same purposes as you, but I didn’t love the old school design so I got the iPad Air 5. I really wish I waited a year and got the iPad 10 lol. The design of the 9 was the only reason I didn’t get it

But they arent really future proof as they are outdated from launch day. So I think I made the right decision in the long run

@@afifatus4556 yes it is but assuming your Bluetooth device is less then 1 foot away, you’re not going to transfer data through it, or need to connect to 2 device at once, Bluetooth 4 is enough, because if your needs fall within these conditions bluetooths 5 increase data speed, range, and speed are negated to the point it’s not noticeable.
I just got the 11” M2 pro running iPadOS 16.2 beta. My goal is for it to be able to handle my entire workflow as an accounting firm owner while eliminating my usage of two devices (MacBook and iPad mini previously). So far so good, I might add. The 12.9” is too chunky for travel and I typically use the device screen to view documents. Using the pencil to mark up bank statements and other docs is a game changer

How do you find spreadsheets, coming from Windows, the idea of a weakened Excel is the one thing that puts me off (I do use Power Pivot and BI which I don’t think work on Office for Mac)

For me, it’s simple. The degree of laptop replacement and the fact that I’m replacing a ready-to-be-retired iPad Pro gen 2 puts me strongly in the current generation Pro 12.9. For the mix of engineering, documenting, and pro audio work I do with it I really do need the screen real estate. Plus, the fact that I tend to keep my iPads until they die of old age is a pretty big factor in the justification.
That said, I would tend to agree with you. Either the iPad Air with the M1 or the iPad Mini for a small tablet really fits what most people will need.
I was gifted an iPad 9th Generation when it first came out last year and I love it. I'm a 20 year old uni student with an Xbox for gaming, my phone for mobile stuff, and my Surface laptop for school, so the iPad is really just something I use for UA-cam, mobile games, Procreate, and sometimes some light college work. I have the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case for it with the Apple Pencil and it's great. Considering I bought the keyboard case for only $60 on an eBay auction (sealed) and the Apple Pencil as well for only $40, this thing is great. The other iPads are cool and all but realistically I have my other devices that can do everything else the higher end models would be needed for.

From my hands-on experience: If you want a full size screen and don’t need a bunch of accessory support, go iPad 9. If you’re still budget minded and want Magic Keyboard/Pencil 2 support, go iPad Air 4. If you want a truly handheld tablet, then go with the Mini 6. If you need anything beyond a 128gb or 256gb iPad Pro, then get a MacBook.

I'm planning on getting an iPad mini for Christmas, but I will be taking advantage of an option where I can buy now and pay over time so I don't have to drop 400-600 all at once. I've used my old mini for years, but it finally stopped receiving updates recently and so I decided its time for a new one. I mostly use it for watching videos and reading, especially on longer plane rides. The slightly shorter battery life for the mini doesn't bother me a ton, just because I rarely use my iPad for more than a couple hours at a time.
Completely agree with the iPad Air if you were buying new, however I’m leaning towards a last gen iPad Pro M1 12.9” as I think that fits my requirements a lot better and hopefully as it’s the M1 chip may even last a little longer.

It’s ridiculous that the base iPads still don’t support the pencil 2. That is done on purpose by Apple. There is no other reason to leave the support out.

I wish basic iPads, including the Air, featured the 12.9" screen. For music reading and note taking, and also college textbooks, the bigger screen plays a significant role.

Really enjoying my refurbed 2018 12.9. I was aware of my bias towards the new when buying, without taking into account that any upgrade from 2015 10.5 would be an improvement. When I realised that I felt way better. It's sometimes about reframing the purchase rather than following Apple's marketing lead.

Just upgraded to a m2 12.9 iPad Pro with 256gb from a 2018 12.9 pro with 256gb. Let me say I don’t regret it a bit. I use my iPad every day for work as a housing inspector and immediately I noticed just how much faster it is. My 2018 never really felt that slow, but things have definitely changed since I first got it and the 8 gb vs 2 or 3 gb of ram is nice. Haven’t seen an app have to refresh itself yet.
And the wide angle camera, for me at least, was I big reason I upgraded. I take thousands of pictures inside homes and being able to not have to pull out my iPhone for a wide angle to actually see the room is very nice. I was actually consider going down to a mini with 5g, but I tested the camera in the store and it was just too narrow. If Apple would put the camera setup from the normal iPhone I would buy one in a heart beat.

I’m looking into this model and I hope you can answer; since I don’t have the router that the specs say is needed for 6E WiFi, will the iPad Pro 12.9” just *not work* on any less powerful WiFi networks? (sorry if I sound really dens in asking, I just am trying to determine if this device can still connect to non-6E WiFi routers, which is likely the case pretty much everywhere I use WiFi. Any advice you can provide, please?
@@aerclyyonr Yes, it's backwards compatible with non-6E routers. I have no 6E compatible routers around me at all and have never faced any wifi issues on the ipad pro m2.
I have been looking closely at the iPad Air, but I have been torn with the option of a refurbished iPad Pro 3rd Gen. Both have the M1 chip but you get the Pro camera and Thunderbolt 4 for about the same price. A well refurbished Pro vs. a brand new Air is not an easy choice, but I am leaning toward the Pro.
I'd go with the air 5 mate, why get an older model almost 5 years old which has been discontinued now when you can get the latest one with which will have better support in the long run

I’ve got both and my advice is get the pro, I use photo editing, make short videos and use Logic Pro x remote mainly.
Get the pro. Like you said, both have the M1 chip, and 120hz is a huge bonus. You’re essentially exchanging the brand new unboxing experience for more features at the same price.

I myself picked up a refurbished iPad Pro 11 256GB 2018 for $650AUD (420USD). Only for media consumption, but you gotta love that 120hz! Also, even being a few years old it's still super fast and handles anything I throw at it :)

@@jackattack9696 Personally, I prefer the smaller bezels and 120hz screen (I’m picky with my displays). I knew I’ll never use it for “professional” use, hence why I got the 2018 model. If you can find it for a great price I’d say go for it, performance wise between this and the Air 4 I can’t compare you’ll have to do your own research. But I don’t believe there is that noticeable of a difference, but it comes down to what you use it for.

I am currently using an iPad mini 3 and it has served me really well for the past 7 years and I'm just mainly using it for reading, watching videos and linking to my sound system to stream music. I am still partially undecisive if I should upgrade to the air or stick with the mini. On one hand I would love a bigger screen watching videos on the go as I do travel a lot but on the other I love the portability of the mini.
I‘d stay with the mini as long as the important Apps still run on it, then I‘d upgrade to a newer one. 😅

I’m on the iPad hunt now, as I’d love to gift my grandma an iPad for FT capability with our family, and for easy google and reading access as she wishes. Figured it’s best I upgrade to the iPad Air and give her my iPad Pro - than buy her a refurbished model of the 2016 release that is still no cheaper than $175. I’ve been perfectly content with mine for the last 6 years and could go longer with it - but I truly think gifting my grandmother it would be a great gift. ☺️

I use an Ipad Mini since 2012. Mine is a stubborn little thing that won't die. I'm grateful for it because I can't afford even a refurbished one at this time. Things are rough but I sure love my mini! I accidentally dropped it off my balcony. Twice! It's got a cracked screen on most of the left side. Honestly, my only issue is that it can't be updated past IOS 12. Now I can't even update my apps like CVS and Amazon. So I can't use them at all now. If it wasn't for my Mini losing access to apps, then I'd honestly just be fine with me & my mini having a few more years together. It's like having a dog in a weird way. It's been by my side every day for almost eleven years! Just like my dog, Bones. Fuck I am stoned! I should've been asleep ours ago but eh it's Saturday.
Walmart was selling the 4th generation iPad air for $350. They're sold out online now, but $350 for an iPad air 4th gen is absolutely the best deal. You might still be able to pick one up locally.

I purchased an iPad Air 5 with 256GB for $100 off brand new, despite most UA-cam reviewers speaking against it. I do not regret it at all.
I picked up the iPad mini 6 when it was released to replace my aging mini 5. For me it's the perfect content consumption device and a great companion to my recently acquired MacBook Air.
I combine mine with the m1 mac mini and have it as a small screen its awesome

This is a great video mate ! I honestly feel that each iPad launched by Apple targets a different consumer base. According to me -: The iPad 9th and 10th Gen are good "budget" replacements for laptops. If you need to replace your computer and are willing to spend money then the Air 5 serves that purpose. For content creation and people willing to spend too much money the Pros are good. If a person already has a working PC in good condition then I feel that a Mini should be good for on the go devices
No tablet can replace a laptop unless your doing basic tasks. The efficiency and power are very different

I think stage manager, and the bigger 12.9 screen size definitely helps. But at that price, i'd get a Macbook Pro 14! I don't think it can fully replace a laptop though
For me, as someone looking to move on from an old 2017 pro, the Air 5 is probably my best bet. Suits my usage needs today, and will easily last me until 2024 when we will probably see more substantial upgrades to the line. With refirb, renewed, and used "Like New" options out there, the price is very reasonable.

@@mtunayucer I disagree. I play competitive fps games and my monitor is 360hz. My phone is 60hz and feels completely fine. If you’ve never used 120hz or above, it doesn’t matter. If you’ve used 120hz, it might take some time to get used to 60hz until it doesn’t matter.

I've had a lot of experience with iPads, beginning with the Gen 1. When paired with a decent keyboard, they are just about the perfect writing machine. I've learned that there are two factors that make me want to get a new one -- battery life, which does deteriorate after a few years, and storage space. After a few years, you will fill up your storage, and iCloud, for all its convenience, is not as useful as having files on device. For me, the one to get is the cheapest one with the most storage. That would be the 9th gen with 256gb.

I think you should do a video for iPad shoppers who want to shop for a used and/or refurbished/renewed late-model iPad. I would also like to see a more detailed review of the 6th-gen iPad Mini, including available Apple and aftermarket accessories.
I chose the 11" M1 Pro with MKB and Pencil for business travel personal tech. I have a waterproof, protective shoulder bag. The iPad fits very snugly in a dedicated, deeply padded sleeve with reinforced corners. The separate zipped sleeve is packed with USB-C to USB-C and Ethernet cables (not all foreign hotels have WiFi), a dongle with SD and TF card ports, 2 x USB-C ports (one charging, the other data), 2 x USB-A, Ethernet and HDMI, a 20W USB-C charging wall wart with folding UK pins, a 1 TB SanDisk Portable Extreme SSD, iPods Pro and a 20,000 mAH power bank (the largest you can legally take on board a plane). This is really light and portable, and it easily fits under an airline seat while my laptop bag goes in overhead storage (this also contains plug adaptors for anywhere in the world). I borrowed a friend's 12" Pro to do an experiment, and with the MKB fitted, it's just not as portable and light as the 11". So I'm sticking with the 11". I will not be upgrading to the M2 until apps start to come out that really tax the M1.
Got the iPad 10 about a month ago and I love it! Mainly use it for streaming movies and music and gaming. Don’t really care too much about anything else.

This will be my first time using a cellular model- but it will be my 3rd Mini in 10 years, all purchased primarily for extended travel: A Mini 1 (2013) was used for a few weeks in Europe (attracted a lot of curious stares at the time), then was taken along on many trips into Mexico. My Euro travel companion also bought one- we loved the size, weight, and ease of use.
It wasn't until a holiday trip to Amsterdam in 2016 that the Mini 1 processor began struggling with IOS updates, so I bought a Mini 4 (2018) and used it intensively for 2 weeks in NZ .
Both models worked flawlessly on these trips- I can't imagine traveling with anything else.
A big reason is size: I can carry a Mini in one hand, it fits easily into small bags/purse/briefcase, allowed for comfortable inflight movie streaming/email work etc. on long flights- without taking up the entire seat back tray- and can fit in a large pocket in situations where backpacks/large bags are not allowed (a possibility in some museum venues).
I'd like to think the mini's small size attracted less attention for potential thievery- and all this is possible with the quality & capability of much larger devices.
Finally- I agree a magic keyboard would be very useful. (I've used Zagg products while waiting for that to happen) and may get the pencil for scribbling field notes. (I use Notes every day, and love that the Information is available on all my Apple devices as I move from one location/tablet/phone/Imac to another.)
So even after hearing your review: I'm still all-in for the Mini.
I haven't even watched the video & I'm ready to purchase a mini, based off your review alone. Lol. I own a super old iPad from 2012. And I still love it, but it has lots of wear & tear plus I need something more compact.
Love my mini. I mainly use it as a digital notebook. Great for writing notes and digital art. An Air would be more comfortable for creating art. But I’m more of a hobbyist than a professional.

I just got the iPad 10th gen with cellular, it was on sale for 1/2 off and a free year of 5G cellular service, so I decided to upgrade from my 1st gen iPad Pro, I’m absolutely love the 10th gen, the cameras are so much better than my old iPad Pro, it’s super fast compared to what I’m used too, and the screen is super bright for me, I also love the metallic blue color as well, it just pops, I just do mainly watching videos and playing games, and look on the internet and some photography and fly my drone with it and it has done everything with no problems at all
I hate it when people say that the non laminated screen is a downside, thanks to being non laminated it is also a lot cheaper to replace, so it’s more of a double edge sword than a downside.
I'm a systems design engineer in renewable heating for people's homes solar, air ,water and ground source heat pumps. I use an macbook pro while I'm sat at my desk but if I have to shoot of to a survey I take my 11 pro with me it just works. For years I always said Apple is more for work than play until now.

For a lot of travel vloggers and content creators the mini and the air hit the sweet spot. Can edit 4k video, small and light weight, but bigger than the phone if you want a nicer screen for your drone

I have ended up with both 6th & 8th Gen iPads, and an iPad Air 4th gen. Obviously, the Air is the best of the bunch, but I find I can go back & forth between them without any problems. I use them for basic consumption of media for the most part, which I think lots of people do. I have an iPhone 14 ProMax if I need that kind of power, and a M1 iMac. I'm constantly surprised how excited I am with a new Apple product, yet end up disappointed that it's not THAT much different than the previous model. Enjoyed your review, & I think if someone is buying a new iPad, I agree that the Air is future proof for some time to come, and more than capable for the average consumer. Buy what you need, right? And not many people need to spend several thousand $$ on a tablet.
Hi! I want to buy an iPad mainly for note taking. I am not a gamer and have no other requirements from iPad that need heavy processing. Should I buy iPad 9? I am very new to this and don't understand future proofing. Does that mean my device will completely stop working after a few years? That's why I am so confused between Air5 and Gen9.

@@tanvi5378 The 9th would work fine for you. I would suggest a non Apple brand keyboard & even perhaps pencil if you get the 9th gen. It would be counterintuitive to buy the lower price, older iPad, then spend lots of money on Apple's highly priced keyboard. Honestly, I wouldn't even buy their keyboard for the 10th gen.
Just bought last year's 11" ipad pro as a replacement for my 2015 12.9" ipad pro. I mostly use my ipad for art, content consumption, and some gaming. I just couldn't stomache the price of the price of the 12.9" ipad pro. Also I wanted a more portable device. I love my 12.9" but is a bit cumbersome to carry around. The portability plus the price of the 11" ipad pro makes it the right option for me, I think 🤔. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your videos!

My son bought me a new iPad 10th gen to replace my 6th gen ipad which I was happy with. I am disappointed it doesn’t have a headphone socket. I like to listen to music using high quality headphones instead of the crappy built speakers.
Apart from having a bigger storage hard drive it lacks the home button which I prefer. I use it for browsing, emails and social media.
My win computer is my dedicated DAW recording computer.
I do like the editing and copy/ paste functions seem to be better with this new iPad. But all in all was happy with my old 2018 ipad.
only option for me is one of the pros. once you are used to 120hz screens its pretty strange to go back. and with the 12.9 being sooo huge the 11" iPad Pro is the only way to go for me. sadly there are no sales or cheap options for the m1 version and as it got the nearly the same price as the m2 i got this.

That’s something I immediately noticed. I got the 9th Gen yesterday for Christmas because I was looking for something cheaper, but also good enough to use just for watching movies/UA-cam, reading, and art. But wow, going from my 14 Pro Max 120hz back to a 60hz screen is so freaky and slightly annoying. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but it’s currently my only dislike of the iPad.
I have two. The older one is a 10.5” gen 2 pro with gen 1 pencil. I bought it for note taking when I moved to digital notes. It’s great, runs fine, but was too small for note taking and currently is used for UA-cam and recipes in the kitchen. I bought it used or refurbished, don’t remember exactly.
I also have a 12.9”, the last gen before M1, whatever that is. I have the gen2 pencil with it, and it’s my daily driver for note taking and reading. I keep it in my backpack or at my work station. I bought it used and had planned on trying to sell the older one, but ended up keeping both.
For my uses I don’t need a lot of storage. I think I have 256gb on both and it’s more than I need, but you only get one shot at it, so I don’t regret my choice there. Super happy with the devices. I think if I were to just get a media consumption device new, it would probably be the air.
I have a iPad Pro 11 first gen that I use frequently for media consumption, journaling and web browsing. Got a iPad mini 6 as a gift recently, which I use to read things at bed time, and also to check work updates in the day. Love my iPad Pro, it’s the first gen but it’s working well and is still really fast!
I have numerous I pad- iphones-mac pro etc and I think the real advantage of getting the 12.9 Ipad pro over the mac pro laptop is the touch screen. Can't stand that Mac doesn't make its laptops with touch screens. There is no reason not to have this upgraded tec specs of touch screen so for me I have a macbook air but to replace my mac book pro I went with the ipad pro with the magic keyboard and I love it! If you are wanting a mac laptop spring for an I pad with the keyboard even though expensive you will love it.
for me the pencil hover is the option that I want to switch my air m1 to m2 pro :v for someone who uses ipad for drawing it's a killing feature, I think you underrated this one :D
The only thing making me want the 12.9" iPad Pro is the big screen, just so it's more comfy to make great handwritten notes. If there was a non-pro version of it with a larger screen (albeit a 12.9" iPad Air), I would definitely just go for that instead.
Also, I do own the iPad Air 4 which at the time I did have a little buyer's remorse.. but lmao it's nice to actually hear someone recommend this model somehow. Idk. 🤣

@@derekanderson8659 Not OP, but it there was a short window between iPad Air 4 and 5. The M1 chip in the 5 is my buyers remorse. That being said, it's a very capable device and I use it a lot.
I ended up with an M2 iPad 11 with LTE. The size was the ultimate draw because it fits in my sling bag and though it is on the heavier size, the small size makes it very easy to grab and go when I'm doing work. Remoting into servers, using a jump box for network configs and such don't really need the power of an M2 but as the LTE models are already pricey, I decided against the older gen and as I'm a speed reader and read a lot of documentations, the 120hz screen makes a massive difference when skimming through documentation. Add in the paperlike screen protector with the apple pencil and it's a delight to write and sketch on.
I wish the magic keyboard had a proper escape key and a function row, but it's not too hard to get around it.
Only other complaints are not proper support for a platform agnostic KVM, no extended monitor (would like 2 external please) and just general Apple tax.
Outside of that it's been a brilliant addition to my kit and has freed me from feeling trapped to a desk and being able to work from just about anywhere.
Now if only there was a way I could use my ZFold as a 2nd monitor for the iPad....
Oddly I use it almost purely for work. I generally prefer the small size of the Mini or the ZFold for most of my mobile media consumption and prefer to just game on my Switch, if mobile, or just game at my desktop.

I got a good deal on an M1 Pro 11 inch brand new for $600. It’s essentially the same price as the Air but with all the Pro benefits. I don’t think I’m missing anything really in getting last years model.

for college students, I recommend getting the 65GB 5 Gen IPad Air if you plan on only taking notes or research on it and watch movies occasionally
I want the 12.9 just for the screen tech, tho I think an 11" is the optimal size still being travel friendly. Also, the new more expensive price hits hard for something I agree as nice but not essential.

NEVER had an iPad and thought its time to finally get one. However, now money is tight (as I'm sure for everyone). Didn't need anything super fancy, but at the same time I know I'll use it quite a bit. Nothing for a job, but simple things like play games, use internet, watch anime, take a few pictures, and music. Compared and contrast and made my decision for iPad Air 5th gen. Hesitant because its still a bit expensive but also not compared to others. Was hesitating in making my request and reviews I got was mixed. But I watched your video and it helped me confirm my decision before the holidays. Your video was simple, concise, and to the point. One thing I would point out, if you are like me and keep your devices for a long time before upgrading (5-7 years), you might want the newest battery you can get and wifi 6e. There may be very few 6e signals available now. But, give it a few years and they may be common. Then, you may want to have the technology to use it. Also, the newer the battery, all the much better. If you buy a model that is a year or two old, you may find your battery having a much shorter cycle when it is older. Yet, you may not be ready to replace it.
I suppose an alternative way to go is to get an older version, save a chunk of cash, and upgrade more often, but I haven’t committed myself to such a strategy yet. I’ll give it some thought before I upgrade next. I think the savings must be quite substantial for this to be sensible.

I'll just chime in here with my review of the iPad Pro M2, I absolutely love it. I use it 90% of the time for work. It handles Photoshop great, Lightroom is solid, the battery life is amazing even when using apps light Photoshop with the brightness high. The USB-C charges very fast using my Anker high wattage chargers, and the speakers have a great decibel output. I travel often, so I went with the 11", vs 12", and I have zero regrets on that decision. Hope this helps make your decision!

Tom, good video. I still have 2 original "iPads" that work. They do last forever until Apple denies you specific apps like UA-cam and require newer OS to work. Built in obsolescence from Apple is awful. These prices should not be considered "good" and even the M1 Air will only be valid for 4 years. These are a lot of money.

I just upgraded from the iPad Mini 4 from the Mini 4 as I do not need a full size iPad for my needs. I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch that serves as my full time laptop so no need for an iPad with a keyboard.the Apple Pencil is perfect for taking notes and doodling. I can easily take it with me daily without needing to carry a bag.
I’m going for the new Air. I have had my existing air for a decade and still love it so that seems best for me :-) thanks for the videos to help me realize I didn’t really need the big bad pro model :-) saved me enough to buy the keyboard with my Air!!

It definitely depends on what you'll be using your iPad for. I'm not using it for video or audio creation, I use my MacBook Pro for that, which I also use for my full-stack software developer job. I just upgraded from the iPad 9 to the iPad 10 and I like it, the home button is finally gone (I mean, that thing has been around since the iPhone 3 at least lol). The sound is also a lot better, I always found the iPad 9's sound to be kind of squeaky, ear-piercing and not stereo when in landscape mode, which is probably the most used orientation. I also got a nice $180 USD trade-in value for my iPad 9, which is nice after having it for over a year. In the end, it definitely depends on what you're planning to do on the device, and the budget you have. To each their own, cheers 🍻

my only dislike of ipad10 is that you cant directly charge your apple pencil at your iPad anymore due to the port change so you need to carry/buy a new a dongle for it instead of just plug it into the iPad. so i'm sticking with my ipad9 for now until its time to buy a new one ahahahah
I was on the fence about which iPad I should get but finally I settled on the 12.9 inch. But not the M2 but the M1. Got a 2TB Wifi+Cellular for 1300$ cheaper. No hover feature, but it’s perfect.
Hi, this may seem like a dumb question, but does the iPad Pro 12.9” work on all non-6E WiFi networks? I suspect it would have to, but since I don’t have the specified router and it’s likely that nowhere else I connect to WiFi would either, I’m trying to get a clear answer before upgrading to this model. Any advice you could provide, please?
As I am a student, i would prefer i pad 10 gen because it is future prove by it has moder design, A14 bionic , nice camera , type c port , landscape camera and MOST IMPORTANT:- as it has non laminated display so if it get damaged it will require less expenses, and it supports apple pencil gen 1 were it is cheape than apple gen 2 and works perty same for note taking
And ,i pad air prices have also increased by almost 10k( in India currency) on Amazon. SO 10 GEN IS BETTER IN VIEWS, and i ordered it today.

After buying the Air 4 years ago, I slowly realised that I’d prefer a much smaller screen like the iPad mini. Rip me 😢
I'm a committed iPad user. I just replaced my Mini 5 with the full-size 9th generation, because I wanted the larger screen and because I wanted to get the 9th gen before it was discontinued. I definitely wanted the conventional headphone jack, which is stereo, by the way. I got it with the max memory and the cellular access. The latter is essential, in my opinion, because wi-fi is not always available when you need to use it. I also bought a pencil and smart keyboard, even though I may not use either for some time, for the sake of completeness. Finally, I bought a 3rd-party messenger bag and a protective case, because the bag I used for my Mini won't do. I have to be able to travel with it, so I need to ensure that it is secure in transit.
I have never had an iPhone. I do banking on my iPad, and two-factor authorization goes to my flip phone. If you do everything on an iPhone, your bank accounts are more vulnerable. Using a smart phone for everything is not smart, in my opinion.
Xiaomi Pad 5 works as well. Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 (nice short name, right?) has OLED 120 Hz display as is still cheaper than most of those. But all-in-all... iPads are still capable. Yet that is just because the whole tablet market is pretty lazy on substantial upgrades.
My iPad 8 is still going strong. For how I use my iPad 32g will be enough for a long time. Amazes me how iOS optimizes storage. I found a blue tooth keyboard case for $30. It is designed so the part that holds the iPad can spin in a 360 degree arch,so the case with keyboard can be used in portrait or landscape position.
I think iPad Pro 11 is better deal over Air. You get double the storage, M2 chip, better camera, better audio, slightly better screen, proMotion, lidar scanning, and Apple Pencil hover. For the small price bump I think that makes it a far far better deal, and it's a bit more future proof with that extra storage and horsepower.
All many people does is watch Netflix, youtube, insta. For that A11 BIONIC itself is more than enough. Why tf they get M2 for watching videos lol. It's their personal choice though.

@@Maruhodo actually a small price bump. Had to make the same decision when buying my new iPad Pro 11" M2. The iPad Pro with 128GB was 935€ on amazon while the iPad Air (256gb model, as 64gb isn‘t enough for me) is around 890-900€. So I rather pay the 40 bucks more and get the pro model with all the benefits mentioned above.

@@Maruhodoi think he was trying to say if you were considering buying the iPads air 256gb model or iPad Pro 11 128gb, might have been better to go for iPad pro because the bump in price would be insignificantly small. However if you wanted the ipad air 64gb model, you would have saved a lot money as compared to buying the ipad pro.

I prioritize the promotion display and superior sound. So it’s one of the two Pro models for me. The 11 inch is big enough and also cheaper, so that’s my choice. I also decided to go with a refurbished 2021 from Apple to save another $270 (CAD). That paid for a new second gen pencil and iPad cover.
Crazy, but I had the original ipad air and that thing was beautiful for about 2 years. After one of the major ios updates, it turned into a toasted overnight. Couldn't even do the simplest multitask without lagging. It was rough. From that, Ive always been skeptical about things "lasting a long time".
I think think some Companies do the updates on Purpose to put a lag bug or some type of bug to defect their product, so people keep Spending more Money to Upgrade So they can keep making the $$$$$. I have thought of a this. Then I watched a video from a woman who said she worked for a Big Phone Brand Company, & that is why they keep doing the updates. To eventually by the time you get to the 3rd, 4th or 5th update & so on. It Screws up your Phone, Tablet or whatever it may be. Now it's time to invest in a newer one. 😌🤔 GodBless😊

I wish I have one. I am currently in my first year in college taking a BS in Mathematics. I struggle a lot with my slow and old laptop. I am certain that an iPad will help me to become more productive and save resources as I spent so many papers on my mathematical solutions. I am like using 1 bond paper just to solve 1 equation/problem.. Great review btw. :)

I bought an iPad Mini 5th Gen in 2020 for my great niece and due to her dropping it in the bath, the insurance replaced it with the 6th gen version.
She is very happy with it! In a few more years she may use it for more than Disney Plus and CBeebies and other simple stuff thanks to Apples' long support for their products.
How do you get insurance for this thing
i have a question, so if it breaks do you get a voucher for the same price it costed? like when i broke my tv, they didn't produce the model of it anymore so i got a voucher to buy a new one for the same price and it was miles better. or do they just replace them? cause i have insurance for my iphone se 2020 and i'm wondering if i ever break it, if it will be replaced for an iphone se 2022 (cause i don't want that model lol)
Almost a laptop replacement except when it comes to file management. Just try moving files between your iPad and other remote computers, nas drives etc or even just writing some text or code and saving the text file to somewhere on your network.
Sometimes you can get it to work a little on but don’t rely on it. Try downloading a file and then moving it to somewhere else on your network!
So many things require you to put down the iPad and go to a computer when you could just do it from your android phone in seconds.
Here in the UAE amazon sells the iPad pro 3rd gen with 128GB is only 100 dirhams more than the iPad Air 5th gen 256GB, so I'd rather go with the pro, one more thing Tom thanks for a great it was nice watching one of your iPad comparison videos again. Keep it up, man!
This helped me with my decision to buy a iPad during early boxing day sales. I decided to go big. Except last gen big. The ipad pro 12.9 6th gen 128gb is $1500 CAD. The 5th gen is currently $1150 CAD. Only difference is the last gen is rocking the m1 chip. What I plan to use it for, I don't think I'll need a m2 chip for.
As a non content creator and after hours of checking out videos:
iPad 9th Gen has better value for money than all the others. You get the iPad experience for a lot less.
If you are planning to edit some videos every now and then and you need a little bit more processing power or you want to draw having the feeling of the pen drawing directly on the screen then the iPad Air 4 is the next best thing.
I bought the ipad pro 11 because i wanna use it to edit photo,video, to draw and work with it i dont know if that was the best option
I feel like spending the extra money for the air 5 might be worth it considering maybe being able to sell it easyly in a few years since there Still would be demand… such a difficult choice with the current line up for me

I have a 8 year old iPad Pro 12.9” and it still works perfectly, but I use it for storing hundreds of pdf music score files, and it allows easier reading of sheet music
I had the iPad Air (5th) for a day, and for then switched for 160.00CAD to jump to the pro 11 M2, and it was worth every penny. The 120hz, hover pencil, 4speaker, miniature but mighty brighter screen, it made cents to me.
I have a 2022 IPad Pro 12.9 with M2 for Work it is used for specific work. Instead of paying so much for accessories from Apple, I went with Logitech which has wonderful products at fair prices. Keyboard folio with spillproof keyboard $129, Crayon which is their pencil that charges USB C $69, Pebble Bluetooth mouse $39

Id go for the 12.9 m1. They are currently heavily discounted for the black friday sale. And m2 doesn't seem to be a major upgrade. Though I might go down to the 11 if i find a great deal.

For me I picked up a iPad Pro 11 inch m1. For Lightroom and media it’s much more responsive than my slightly older xps 13 thinner and has better battery life. It was cheaper (used) and is smaller and lighter for when I travel. The only thing I miss over a laptop is the keyboard but at home I have a pc and cheap Bluetooth keyboard is cheeeap.
when i started working from home, the iPad became such a useful tool to where i never touch my iPhone. i work from my Mac, my iPad is used for secondary purposes at my desk. also, on tp of that, all the personal use for it.
Purchased the 12.9 and will be using it as a laptop as well. It’s my first iPad but I wanted the biggest screen. I also got the 2 Tb storage. My moto is: Only the best or not at all.
I’m looking at storage options. Wondering if 2TB would be too much for me; & what I’d be doing with my iPad as laptop alternative? Not familiar with how much storage gets used but what kinds of software; or by projects. Thanks for any insight or guidance ❤

As far as gaming & downloading UA-cam & movies, I would probably use other devices, but would do more as I got familiar… 2TB is definitely out of budget, but if I could draw on it too; I’m thinking 512GB - 1TB might be the answer!?! My iPhone 12 Pro Max has 256GB, but I’m guessing software would take up more space on the iPad Pro or Ultra than it does on my phone; especially when adding other apps and any projects that I would want to accomplish for work as well as downtime activities. My plan is to save starting now for the 2023 Ultra & extra storage; then have the option to buy the 2022 12.9 Pro as a backup plan. I’m also most likely upgrading my phone this year to the 14 or 15 Pro models; keeping my eye out for the rumored iPhone 15 Ultra model. Thanks again 🥰🙏🏻
