Thanks! That is wonderful to hear. I am not sure if I will be able to get a video out next week as I am currently on the North Coast of Alaska travelling for work. If I get home in time I will try to get something recorded, so fingers crossed the weather is good enough tomorrow for the plane to land.
Cool power hammer! I work outside as well (for now) and have been trying to come up with some sort of way to move some thicker stock. Very interesting build. Gotta love that Alaskan ingenuity.
Thanks, I spent a long time trying to think of how to build and affordable hammer that would be pretty forgiving with the engineering tolerances, and I'm happy with how it turned out.
How do keep the horn from breaking off I was told when you put hot metal on a cold anvil it just doesn't pull the heat from the metal it increases a chance of the horn breaking off
While that risk does exist, I haven't ever really worried about it much. I figure that this anvil is old enough that if it was going break off it would have already done so by now. Plus I don't ever do much heavy forging on the horn anyway.
I love that you forge out in the snow! So cool brother! Is this because you don’t have any shop space, or because you just prefer to work outdoors? Just curious, thanks!
My wife and I moved into an unfinished house 2 years ago and have been working on it ever since, so getting a new shop up has not been a high priority. I do have a pole barn style roof up now (no walls just a roof to keep the snow out) but this footage was recorded before I got the roof on.
I am currently using propane gas, but I used solid fuel up until fall of 2021. I have made my own charcoal, but mostly I used coal since there is a coal mine in a town only about 2 hours away from me, so the price is very affordable here.
I love your videos I look forward to the next one

good video Thanks
Thanks!
Do you make your own coal and if not where do you get it at or do you use gas
