Just something I noticed personally, it’s surprising just how earnest Luisa is in her intentions to protect Mirabel. During the part where she sings, “Give it to your sister and never wonder, if the same pressure would have pulled you under.” When she’s holding the small mirabel, there isn’t any anxiety or even any tension in her face that could suggest fear or anger towards the situation or mirabel. She just has this easy smile that says, “I got you sis.” And that’s all she really wants, she doesn’t want to be a hero she’s just a sister who wants to keep her family safe and feels she should be able to because she’s the strong one.

I think an underrated line in this song is "line up the dominoes, a light wind blows" cuz it shows a full-on tornado knocking over the "dominoes," which to me aint just a "light wind." I think this is implying how Luisa deals with this large amount of pressure (the tornado) all the time, so what might seem "heavy" or hard for someone else is expected to be "light" or easy for her, and she's used to it. (this also implies literally in the sense of her powers)

Exactly!!! But also, symbolically, look at the "dominoes" and notice they are *magical doors* which is the cause of anxiety throughout the entire family.

There are numerous points where she struggles under the weight of various things, but she always has a moment where she pushes through and lifts the thing for her family, even if it costs her. But from the moment her door appears to the moment the tornado blows it away, she's continuously struggling and barely able to keep her footing.

I love how you reflected on your daughter and saw similarities in your own family dynamics because that is what this movie is all about~ everyone’s powers actually personifies the roles that everyone is meant to individually play in order to help keep the family functional, but if left unchecked, unacknowledged, and unbalanced these gifts can become resentments and curses. Not everyone gets it and I love to see it when someone does 💫

    • @dr.braxygilkeycruises1460
      @dr.braxygilkeycruises1460 2 роки тому +22

Yes indeed!!! And, along those lines, this is why I believe Mirabel didn't get a gift, per se. If you look at the pictures on the wall of Abuela Alma standing next to each child as they receive their door, with Isabel (the first grandchild to get a gift), Abuela looks like a regular Proud Grandma with her nieta (granddaughter). Pero, after that, she looks more stern with each one. Dolores, Luisa, Camilo. By the time Mirabel was old enough, the Miracle Candle knew the very foundation of WHY it blessed the Family Madrigal with the gifts had crumbled. So when Mirabel touched the door knob, it disappeared because That Wasn't Her Door! SHE was to be the new foundation of the Family; the reason it returned to being a real family and not just people borderline idol worshipping their gifts.

Mirabel is probably one of the VERY few people Luisa (the strong girl) would confess this to - she very clearly adores Mirabel, with little things, even in this song. For example, after destroying the iceberg, she pauses to help Mirabel adjust her glasses, and almost every act in this song is to protect or save her.

One of the most poignant lines is "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service." It hits home in a really hard way that expectations can be toxic if what you think you have to do or take care of is tied up in your self worth.

Another part of this is when you're a large, physically powerful person, people expect you to always act that way. They expect you to take charge and take responsibility for everything, when honestly, sometimes you just want someone else to take over, be in charge. It's an even bigger issue in relationships. People assume since you're built large, you're a dom, even if you're the biggest sub there is.

Your interpretation is veeery close considering you haven’t watched this movie yet. But the pressure Luisa is feeling is both metaphorical and literal. She’s literally the strong one, and all the heavy lifting is done by her and the whole town relies on her. When you watch the movie you’ll notice that Luisa moves and works nonstop. That’s part of where the pressure comes from. Something like “yeah she’s strong anyway give it ALL to her. She can take it”
Also I read a comment somewhere the symbolism about her carrying six donkeys. A donkey is a “beast of burden” since Man relied on donkeys and similar beasts to carry or pull heavy things around since time immemorial. And here we have Luisa carrying these donkeys. It’s almost as if she’s treated like a tool in this town

Thank you so much for pausing for a moment to recognize your daughter. I am the youngest of four, and youngest by more than a decade. And yet in my instance I am Louisa. All the pressure of keeping my family safe from Covid, taking care of my family, getting them to their medical appointments, homeschooling my kid, taking care of three household‘s simultaneously and even though I am blathering it here where this is all a bunch of strangers and my family will never see it, never once do I complain. Well, that’s not entirely true. You can’t keep people safe if they don’t listen and you can’t force them to stay home or not eat or drink things that they’re not supposed to for medical reasons. Because I know they’re sneaking it, and I know they’re being places where they don’t need to be because they can risk getting sick. So yes, I complain because they do stupid stuff and take unnecessary risks. But beyond that, you don’t even need to ask, it just gets done and everybody knows they can rely on little sister. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, I don’t do it for the recognition for the little Pat on the head or the brownie points. I do it because it’s mine to do, my duty, my family, my honor to take care of my family.

As the eldest child, I related SOOOOO HARD to the idea of being the child to bear the burdens of my family. It was always my job to protect my siblings from the fights my parents had, bear my parents complaining about their marital problems to me individually (seriously don't do that to your kid), hide money problems from my siblings, even protect my parents from my siblings being hateful to my parents sometimes. And my family wonders why I'm low contact. Come to think of it, that's probably a big contribution to my crippling anxiety...

I watched my older sister go through it. Poor women was expected to be the perfect role model to me and my little sister before she even knew who she wanted to be. My parent's would always push that "remember your sisters learn from you" and other burdens a child shouldn't have to deal with. She was a child too, she was trying to figure out the person she wanted to be. I vowed that when I have children I will never expect that from my eldest. They'll be able to grow up without me uttering a line telling them their siblings look up to them and learn from what they do as if that's their responsibility. That's the one major thing I'd change from my parents parenting and I might just watch this movie if I ever forget.

This is a really "heavy" song (haha, pun) that has a lot of actual mental health implications. The expectations we accidentally lay on family members affects them more than we may think - because of a lot of times it hides under the surface. Would love to get your reaction on the other Encanto songs for sure. "We don't talk about Bruno" hits on the misconceptions we form around the family outcast and "What else can I do" touches on more expectations families place on different siblings - Isabela's being "I must be PERFECT all the time...but I want to be my own person..." I really enjoyed this video, thanks!

A theory that I have seen is Luisa's song features the Donkeys which reflect how she feels about herself, she feels that she is worthless if she cant be of service and carry burdens much like farm animals carry much of the burdens of farming thus making them of service. It is so interesting to me how disney always leaves little aspects or easter eggs for people to interpret in their own way

This movie sucker punched me in a way I wasn't expecting, cause I hadn't seen this song before seeing it (the movie) - and by the end of the song I was just in *tears* because holy hell I know what it's like as the oldest of 7.
On the topic of Anxiety though, you should check out Overthinker by INZO. ♥

I'm pretty sure that i'm not the only person who strongly relates to Luisa.
Like sometimes the wait of this 'pop' is even harder than the pressure itself. Everyone knows that we can't hold that pressure infinitely. And the very waiting, fear that this 'pop' will happen at the most random moment just makes things even harder.
Disney did surprisingly good job on Encanto, by making sharacters not 'oh i'm princess and i'm going to save the world/kingdom/family', but actually relatable.

You can actually see the change of attitude in her, as soon as she sees her little sister panicking near her. She tries to hide her emotions and vulnerable side and it reflects on the animation. Beasts that were huge and threatening are reduced to mere toy sized creatures instead, and lighting shifts. As does her expression.

Anxiety is that feeling you get when you do not study for a test you think you can pass but may have failed anyways.. It is dread.
It is the pit in your stomach thinking you failed someone or something without realizing it.
The fear of inevitability based off personal history.

The magician doors 🚪 where everyone was suppose to get individual powers basically told *Mirabel* "You don't need all these extraordinary gifts that's been bestowed to everyone else!!" You are the *Miracle Child* you have been imbued with characteristics no one else has or is seriously lacking 😭: Leadership,Kindness,Compassion and Fairness. And Mirabel is using that on a daily basis and doesn't even know it. And that's also part of insecure, not know her own gifts that everyone else is lacking..
