This was the song that I used to pitch to my friends to watch Encanto. They haven't even heard of Encanto, much less what the story was, but the moment they heard this song, I got them to watch it that very night. It's been 3 weeks and they're still referencing the movie in our group chat. This song is POWERFUL.

My notes with yours as an aspiring filmmaker/animator 1:00 the film is set in Colombia and the music is also based off of the region and so is the choreography. 1:14 yea I noticed that too and it reminded me of ad libs but I might be wrong. The way the camera is moving is giving that uneasy feeling while also following the characters movements. 2:08 now that you say it, it make a lot of sense (spoiler maybe) but Dolores has a very different perspective of Bruno. Since she hears him all the time she knows him the most yet is sympathetic to the family. She has the most neutral point of view in a way. That’s why her verse is a rhythmic change cause it’s a change from the rest of the family. (there’s lowkey an Easter egg of Bruno dancing in the background if you can find it ;) 2:43 the contrast between the music is also a contrast between the characters. The complete opposite of Dolores, Camilo the performer himself gives the scariest description. The most memorable one as well because his words leave a big impression. Maybe it wasn’t a coincidence that it’s the best verse (imo). Though that might’ve been obvious idk. 5:25 The Madrigals seem simple on paper and are made to play simple roles but are very complex people. This is only positive vision Bruno has had in the song interesting how it’s for the most “perfect” person. 6:49 all the of words and info given is being put together by Mirabel. Trying to get a full picture of him and the prophecy but it’s still broken. It’s hard to figure out and the layered vocals add to that. 7:28 also the fish lady is first present but then turns into Dolores. I didn’t really catch that at first watch and many think it was a mistake. But it might’ve been purposeful because they’re both singing. It’s hard to fit in many characters with a small run time. Lin Manuel Mirianda does it again but I’m not surprised definitely impressed. He actually was apart of the film from the beginning and it makes so much sense. That doesn’t happen in most animated musicals the story is usually made first. The storytelling goes in perfect sync with the music and the visuals ✨✨. Amazing video! you should really watch the movie I would love to analyze the other songs too cause I learned alot from this.

I've been checking to see if you reacted to any songs from this since I saw the movie. The music is so good that I was excited to see what you thought about it. So glad you decided to check out at least one (although I'd love to see you react to some of the others in this movie).
The rhythm is called montuno, originated in Cuba and it traveled through the Caribbean slave ports (like Cartagena, and others, in Colombia), you can say is like the “father” of salsa. That’s why it sounds like Havana and Cuban rhythms alike.
All their voices are stunning. It’s gripping and astounding. Peppa’s husband’s voice is absolutely amazing and Camillos voice as well is sinister when he sings his part. “When he calls your name..” that part specifically it was MEANT to sound haunting and like a scary story.
Encanto is getting a Broadway live interpretation sometime soon and led by Lin Manuel Miranda, the same one behind Hamiltion and did the music for Encanto and Moana ☺️☺️🙌🏿

I love how each section kind of represents each character. The duet at the beginning is sort of makes me think of gusts of wind, with their elongated vowels and so on. The sister who’s superpower is amazing hearing, the sounds of their movements are emphasised, their footsteps as well as her whispering. The shape shifting kids a bit more mischievous. Isabellas the more Disney princess perfect angelic sound and then Mirabellas determination and drive us clear. It’s really interesting how they all somehow reflect each character and still works all together

Why is it that all Siamese or Siamese mix cats sit on their human's shoulders? lol the way Motley is rubbing up against your neck and just chillin there wrapped around you like a little monkey cat is the way my girl Gizzy (Gizmo) has always been comfortable sitting on me too! She will be on the arm of the couch while I am walking by and reach out to touch me with her paw and then climb up my shirt to my shoulder lol and even when i am standing or walking around, she will maintain her balance and she's a munchkin/seal point siamese/singapura mix at least we believe. Our boy, Jack, hates being picked up but he's some kind of grey and white bengal mixed with a munchkin i believe, called a Genetta breed. We have had Gizzy since she was 9 days old and her sister, Isabella, (Izzy), we gave away when she was 10 weeks old. We bottle fed Gizzy with Whiskas Cat Milk, and when she got her adult teeth in, we fed her warmed up cat milk with dry food pieces soaked up with the milk so she could chew it. So all she knows is human affection and she trusts us with her life. I thought she was so unique for sitting on my shoulder but now it looks like she's not the only one! Maybe it really is just the Siamese mixed breeds lol

We have had Gizzy since she was 9 days old and her sister, Isabella, (Izzy), we gave away when she was 10 weeks old. We bottle fed Gizzy with Whiskas Cat Milk, and when she got her adult teeth in, we fed her warmed up cat milk with dry food pieces soaked up with the milk so she could chew it. So all she knows is human affection and she trusts us with her life. I thought she was so unique for sitting on my shoulder but now it looks like she's not the only one! Maybe it really is just the Siamese mixed breeds lol
