SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3! Not a "fun" fact but something when I found it out, it completely blew my mind how much care and attention the writers put into each episode. The actor who plays Schneider is 17 years sober in real life and when they were going down his story line for season 3, they brought him in and he told them about a lot of his experiences and relapses and a lot of what he told them made it into the episode (3.12 I think). He told them how proud Schneider must have felt when Penelope let him take Alex to the baseball game because no one ever trusts the addict and after relapsing, all that trust is gone, and the writers said they never would have thought of that. Really just a tiny example of how much care they put into this show.
Here is a fun fact, also associated with Schneider. We learn that his first name is Pat...for Pat Harrington, who played Schneider in the original ODAAT. Oh, and THAT Schneider's first name was Dwayne. Additional fun fact: In S1 when Elena becomes Schneider's assistant, the final scene shows Elena dressed as the original Schneider (T-shirt, rolled up sleeve concealing a pack o' smokes, tattoo on upper arm, tool belt, ill-fitting jeans).
To anyone who hasn't watched this show yet, I can promise you that it's worth your time. It's incredibly funny, and yet tackles issues like immigration, toxic masculinity, drug abuse, sexuality, single parenting and so much more.
I love this show so damn much. It was so incredibly clever how they dealt with sexism and toxic masculinity, by showing for example that men can say sexist stuff and hurt other people without realizing it. And all the issues the show talks about, it still does it in a way that is not aggressive or preachy. I also love how, even though the characters don't always have same views about things, they can talk about it and see the other perspective once they think about it. Just... I LOVE THIS SHOW SO DAMN MUCH
The scene about Lydia explaining the inside the food containers is absolutely gold and speaks everything you need to know about latino moms and grandmoms around the world, I honestly hear my grandma everytime I see it

The topics this show tackles are important and should be shown more on TV. Especially season three had relatable content for me. The way it portrayed anxiety attacks is the way I feel but never knew how to explain. Thanks to the show I can now.

I was raised by two cuban parents in a VERY cuban/latino household and this show gets all those stereotypes right on the nose. Even Rita Moreno (who is not Cuban) has nailed that grandma cuban accent to perfection. Every episode is like a reminder of my childhood. I really hope it comes back for a seaon 4!

When it comes to not saying Trump's name part of it also has to do with long-term viability after production ends - in reruns and streaming. If a show is "too topical" it doesn't do well in future years.

The attention to detail is actually amazing! The nods of Rita Moreno's character Anita from West Side Story are so funny. Like once she says "I like to be in America," which is in reference to the song America from the play/movie.
As a latina I can say this is a good representation for the culture in general owo. Lydia is cuban, the others were born in us but they seem to have a mix (mostly cuban)of heritange that has importance in their lives and Also they keep with beliefs and traditions. They are basically latinos in their hearts, even Schneider! And I really kinda see Myslef in Elena, and Also in penelope, besides im peruvian the are some factors in comom in latinoamericana culture that makes me so happy! :D Im so glad o saw this show 🇵🇪🇵🇪💕💕
This show always made me cry, in every single episode in season 1 i cried everytime and it wasn't funnnn😭 season 2 made me angry and cry because of all the hate and discrimination they received and then season 3 made me happy... this show is everything i thought i never needed it made me come out to my sister and my mom (i haven't come out to the rest of them... getting there) Elena is the most relatable character i have ever watched in my whole entire life this show is just true💙 for the people that haven't watched this show... I’m all white, my mother is a biracial Scottish woman an immigrant to the USA and she and I both love this show! We were super angry when Netflix dropped them! Now I know that POP TV has a new season coming next year I’m super excited! And I really do love this show! It’s my favorite one to watch on Netflix! Among many others! I love this show because it is the kind of show we are severely lacking nowadays. It’s a show that perfectly balances comedy and drama. The characters are genuinely funny and enjoyable in their own ways. The mom isn’t stupid and is a fantastic parent. The kids actually act and talk like kids. Most importantly, the show deals with relevant issues in a very clever and poignant way. I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it because it is well-written, realistic, fun to watch, and full of great messages. Shows like this are extremely rare these days.

I asked my guy friend to watch this show because it tackles a lot of issues about sexism and gender equality and he wanted to learn more about it and now he won’t stop talking about how much he loves the show!
The only thing that I dislike about this show is how easy it is to fall in love with the characters because it makes it so easy to miss them each time I finish the show. It's amazing how the show managed to infuse LGBTQ+ rep and POC rep without one overriding the other. That's really hard to find, even with newer shows. The show also managed to tackle so many topics to make everyone feel seen and included. I saw myself and my family so much in this show and I was so heartbroken to see it go. Each episode was an eye opener, especially the Season 4 episodes. I'm still able to laugh at the jokes and cry at the tragedies no matter how many times I rewatch it. Justina Machado is criminally underrated. She had such a dynamic performance in this show that I felt like Penelope Alvarez was a real person that I could actually meet and talk to. Props to all the people that made this show possible because it was the first show in which I managed to laugh and cry back to back.
I'm not really into sitcoms and usually when I watch a show I never laugh out loud just a bit entertained but with the show I'm crying from laughter and from the sad moments. This show is literally one of the best shows on Netflix right now it tackles so many issues without losing its meaning and still manages to be funny. I watched each season in just 1 day everytime it came out. For one thinking of what it please do you will be thoroughly entertained.

I can not believe this was canceled, it was such an eye-opener for me to become aware of another perspective. I really enjoyed it because it was not disrespectful to anyone.

The attention to detail is actually amazing! The nods of Rita Moreno's character Anita from West Side Story are so funny. Like once she says "I like to be in America," which is in reference to the song America from the play/movie.

As a latina I can say this is a good representation for the culture in general owo.
Lydia is cuban, the others were born in us but they seem to have a mix (mostly cuban)of heritange that has importance in their lives and Also they keep with beliefs and traditions. They are basically latinos in their hearts, even Schneider! And I really kinda see Myslef in Elena, and Also in penelope, besides im peruvian the are some factors in comom in latinoamericana culture that makes me so happy! :D

This show always made me cry, in every single episode in season 1 i cried everytime and it wasn't funnnn😭 season 2 made me angry and cry because of all the hate and discrimination they received and then season 3 made me happy... this show is everything i thought i never needed it made me come out to my sister and my mom (i haven't come out to the rest of them... getting there) Elena is the most relatable character i have ever watched in my whole entire life this show is just true💙 for the people that haven't watched this show... PLEASE IT CAN SAVE YOU'RE LIFE FROM A WHOLE LOT OF DEPRESSION, it made me feel a lot of emotions all that from an amazing show and even an incredible plot and storyline
for all the closeted angels out there: This can save you from the fear of coming out to you're family, i know it saved me from anxiety and the scary thoughts of them not accepting me for who i really am. i love this show so much I know netflix would pick this up again because of such an amazing show and a lot of fans are going to be ripping the front door if they don't pick this up again before season 4 ends I'm sorry for such a long ass comment i just love this show too much for it to be not picked up by any tv plateform other than pop sugar tv 😭💙

I’m all white, my mother is a biracial Scottish woman an immigrant to the USA and she and I both love this show! We were super angry when Netflix dropped them! Now I know that POP TV has a new season coming next year I’m super excited! And I really do love this show! It’s my favorite one to watch on Netflix! Among many others! Please Netflix pick them back up!

I love this show because it is the kind of show we are severely lacking nowadays. It’s a show that perfectly balances comedy and drama. The characters are genuinely funny and enjoyable in their own ways. The mom isn’t stupid and is a fantastic parent. The kids actually act and talk like kids. Most importantly, the show deals with relevant issues in a very clever and poignant way. I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it because it is well-written, realistic, fun to watch, and full of great messages. Shows like this are extremely rare these days.

The only thing that I dislike about this show is how easy it is to fall in love with the characters because it makes it so easy to miss them each time I finish the show. It's amazing how the show managed to infuse LGBTQ+ rep and POC rep without one overriding the other. That's really hard to find, even with newer shows. The show also managed to tackle so many topics to make everyone feel seen and included. I saw myself and my family so much in this show and I was so heartbroken to see it go. Each episode was an eye opener, especially the Season 4 episodes. I'm still able to laugh at the jokes and cry at the tragedies no matter how many times I rewatch it. Justina Machado is criminally underrated. She had such a dynamic performance in this show that I felt like Penelope Alvarez was a real person that I could actually meet and talk to. Props to all the people that made this show possible because it was the first show in which I managed to laugh and cry back to back.
I'm not really into sitcoms and usually when I watch a show I never laugh out loud just a bit entertained but with the show I'm crying from laughter and from the sad moments. This show is literally one of the best shows on Netflix right now it tackles so many issues without losing its meaning and still manages to be funny. I watched each season in just 1 day everytime it came out. For one thinking of what it please do you will be thoroughly entertained.
