I watch these videos of Emma and her friends every day and have become very interested in learning more about sharks and their behavior. People are always afraid of things they don't understand and the next thing you know they start killing them. We need to have laws that protect these beautiful animals. I just love Emma so much and this has made me want to look more into educating people more about sharks and their behavior. I was a teacher and I showed this to my friends and children in my neighborhood showing them that sharks are not the monsters they are portrayed to be and they love it. Please pet her for me, I wish I could do it and give her a kiss on the head lol. God bless you all for the wonderful work you are doing.

Having just encountered the amazing story between you and her, Emma, while looking through stories about wild animals. Not being fully aware how tough her life has been, I can somehow kind of sense it by seeing scars on her fin and her skin. Luckily she has met you and got helped in removing the hook. Wish you both make wonderful memories together and thank you again for sharing this wonderful story with all of us on UA-cam. :)
She is friendly, but so are all the other Tiger Sharks I've met. Emma is not rare because she's a friendly Tiger Shark, she's rare because of the connections she makes with humans.
I saw them, Jim and Emma, on The Dodo but this version is soooo awesome! I even have teary eyes. Amazing! Thank you Steve for filming them. Steve in Canada.
The music in this video is amazing. I’m not a huge classical music fan but the songs on this video, especially the first one, are hauntingly beautiful.
Jim removes hooks from Emma and all the sharks at Tiger Beach. I don't know that there is any evidence that Emma brings any sharks with hooks here, but another shark conservationist that works with Caribbean Reef sharks says that once she started removing hooks from her usual friends, other sharks with hooks started showing up on her dives.
I can't get enough of this video. It's the most beautiful one I have seen and I have seen tons. Next time you see Emma say hi for me 😊 You are so blessed

Emma made me rethink what I thought I knew about sharks. Don't get me wrong. The Great White still give me screaming nerves, but I think I'll learn more about these creatures. So much I do not know.
I was terrified of Tiger Sharks before watching Jim Abernethy's videos of Emma. He made me realize Shark Week is just wrong, complete BS. I've become good friends with Jim A. and he says white sharks are just like all the other sharks, afraid of humans and not interested at all in eating us. I was so surprised to see how afraid a 15' tiger shark was of me. I was able to scare them off by just looking at them in the eyes. I have video of Tiger Sharks watching me as they swim bye like "Is he going to attach me?" So funny how different they are in reality.
@xlunax3657 Sharks are capable, yes, but they are not monsters. Most shark attacks, as rare as they are, are caused by mistaken identity or provocation. Sharks don't attack just because they can.
Dear I say I would go swimming with Emma! OMG... I can't believe I just wrote that! I am absolutely horrified of sharks to the point of never being in the ocean deeper than my knees in my 60 years of age! This shark is a true gem!
Emma is special, but every Tiger Shark I have been in thee water with is an absolute sweet heart. Watching actual footage of divers diving with sharks instead of the BS Shark Week tries to pawn off is the first step. Now you need to start looking at the statistics and compare it to reaality. www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/shark-attacks/odds/compare-risk/. Sharks are one of the safest animals on the planet. Dogs, Elephants, even Coconuts kill more people than sharks.
So this was a few weeks ago? One of the videos that I watched (from 3 years ago) said that after his dive, there was footage of locals killing a bunch of tiger sharks. I was really hoping that wasn't her 😢 (or any of the other very familiar ones)

Her scars are mating scars. Sharks don't have hands, so the males have to bite into the female to hold onto them while they are mating. It's part of nature for them and does not affect how they act around humans at all.
She's magnificent and so curious but she's still a wild tiger shark and they usually will eat anything including divers even license plates have been found in there stomachs but Emma seems very sweet 😊❤
Ya know i thought tiger sharks along w many others were very aggressive. Do not know what affection is. Would never recognize a person as a friend let alone recognize a person whom they like. Id like to thank you for sharing this as i would have never known sharks actually are affectionate and like head scratches. Im literally blown away w emma and her behavior. It really makes you wonder how many other animals and fish are just the same. Its also amazing many dolphins whales etc. Will actually try to save a person and other animals. Maybe its me but its mind blowing to me. Who would have ever thought something like this is possible. Let alone sharks of all things would exhibit such behavior. Id love to have a shark buddy. It makes you realize theres alot more things out there with feelings and emotions. I seen a shark smile when it seen its human friend. Who knew finding nemo's bruce smiling was actually a real thing lol. Simply amazing, people gotta remember. In the ocean we're in their house not the other way around. I thought tiger sharks were mean and boy was i wrong. Again, thank you very much for sharing such an amazing experience. Take care
I wish positive shark - human interactions like this would be covered more in the media rather than always focusing on the negatives. Hope all the sharks are safe from hunters and fishermen. We can help a little by not being part of the fishing industry in any way.
Personally I liked Ocean Ramsey until she started using the fear of sharks to profit from. She started a website that supposedly teaches you how to "safely" dive with sharks. All you have to do is know a few things. Look them in the eyes, don't try to swim away, you can't swim faster than them and if you act like food you may get treated like food. Lastly, if you swim at them and act like you are the predator, you will scare them off. Anyone want to pay me hundreds of dollars for that info? 🤣
I believe, I maybe wrong, that sharks has a basic personality, but like human they have a diferrent behavior from one another. If there are no interactions to us they are only predators. But Emma and Jim have a special bond and Emma is soft if she does not feel threatened. It changes our perception from when people used to say all sharks do, is make babies, eat and swim.
She's very cat-like with her little "head bonks" that she does to show affection. I live in Hawaii and actually know people who have been attacked by Tigers. (It's very rare though) I've been sending Emma videos to my surfer friends and totally blowing their minds. Lol Predators are generally very intelligent animals, so it shouldn't be _that_ shocking to discover that they have a high emotional intelligence as well.
While people are very rarely mistaken as prey by sharks, sharks almost always realize that we are not food and immediately swim off. Also if you compare shark fatalities to any other animal, sharks always kill less people per year than any of the other "dangerous" animals.
Emma looks like she's got a lot of scars. A shark's life isn't easy. That might be another reason why she craves affection, to know there's someone, something out there that means her no harm.
