Our Catholic choir, which honors its members by performing at our family funerals, had learned this lovely piece only months before the Requiem Mass for our two beloved sons. When asked for my request, all I could remember was "... and like a child at home". All these years later (14), this gorgeous rendition still brings comfort.
I just asked God to supply.... then the Melody of this song went on in my head. I started asking myself what are tge words to this song... then the words came right as I asked. There and then, I knew God has taken over. He will supply. I then came to UA-cam to make the declaration through this song. Thank you. God is good
@@JeannineGoeckeritz Yeah, the amazing thing about her was she was able to teach me how to sing like an opera singer when I was 8. Now if only she taught me how to read sheet music. 😪
I'm now a grown man that grew up singing this most anointed song in church. Regardless of the setting, whenever I hear this most worshipful and awe inspiring song...it brings tears of joy and great comfort to my unworthy soul. “The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days and may thy house be my abode, and all my works be praise. There would I find a settled rest, while others go and come.. No more a stranger nor a guest, but like child at home.” I believe in this song’s message and I thank the Lord Jesus for the promise that lies therein.
Jeannine Goeckeritz Dear Jeannine, l have a question. Since you have performed on so many wonderful recordings and events, is it possible that you could help me fulfill a lifelong ambition? First of all, I’d love to attend one of the choirs performances! Secondly, (and this would be a great stretch, indeed) but, if I were to perform with the choir...well, it would be a nothing less than a dream come true! My church choir has performed many of Mac’s arrangements over the years with orchestra and we did a pretty good job...especially for a small hometown church from Alabama. Honestly, I watch the men sing and the discipline required to stand so straight, with such little to no movement, just leaves me in awe. Thank goodness, they allow the instrumentalists a greater margin of movement to play their instruments! 😊 I’m quickly approaching retirement ( I’m 63) and I cannot think of something more satisfying for my bucket list than this. Just point me in the right direction, if you could...please. My church is: The First United Methodist Church of Sheffield, Alabama and their are recordings that you may listen too...before you dare mention this to Mestro Wilberg. 🙄 🤔 😂 😉. Look, I know that it takes years of preparation...so, forget about #2.🤞. Many thanks to you and To God be the Glory! Thomas Littlepage Martin, Sheffield, Alabama
I attend the United Church of God, and we sing this hymn! I'm absolutely in love with this version. the MOST beautiful I have heard! brings me to tears!
"He brings my wandering spirit back, when I forsake his ways" this song has brought me so much comfort as I am facing great trials this year. Im grateful for the gospel and for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
It is beautiful. I cannot sing it because I cry through it every time. But the message is like hands around a mug of hot chocolate after shoveling snow.
This was sung at President Hinckley's funeral while they showed a montage of photos from his life. I'll never forget how that moment changed me. THAT is how I want to live my life.
Este himno se convirtió en uno de mis favoritos desde ese momento, y al igual que a ti, siento que significa mucho en mi vida por eso, amé al presidente Hinckley con todo mi corazón... ❤
That was a very emotional day and made it very difficult to perform the piece and not start crying. He was a great man. Thank you for listening. All the best.
This has become my favorite hymn. I listen to it over and over again, especially during times to trial. When they recently asked me to do a musical number in Church, I did this one. I only wish I could do it justice.
You would have to have a heart of stone to not at least feel a small ounce of comfort and peace when listening to this song. What a beautiful piece of music. This is what I would like to think heaven is like when you enter. A beautiful place with a host of angels singing this song to welcome you in.
My Shepherd will supply my need: Jehovah is His Name; In pastures fresh He makes me feed, Beside the living stream. He brings my wandering spirit back When I forsake His ways, And leads me, for His mercy's sake, In paths of truth and grace. When I walk through the shades of death, Thy presence is my stay; A word of Thy supporting breath Drives all my fears away. Thy hand, in sight of all my foes, Doth still my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows, Thine oil anoints my head. The sure provisions of my God Attend me all my days; O may Thy house be my abode, And all my work be praise! There would I find a settled rest, While others go and come; No more a stranger, nor a guest, But like a child at home.
2020, I sang this hymn 3 years ago in my YSA choir. Since that day, I sing it to comfort my soul. The initial verses "My Shepherd will supply my need: Jehovah is His Name" always are a testimony. By the way, the flutes are amazing. Wonderful performance.
Still my favorite Mormon tabernacle choir song of all time. It speaks to my heart and my longing. This song feels like home to me even though ironically growing up I really didn't have much of a home. Maybe because of that the yearning for belonging is stronger than other people would have. And for a really weird reason I feel like I had heard this song even before I actually heard it for the first time, if that even makes sense. It assures me that I belong...somewhere, where I will feel love and peace in finality.
so comforting and renewing. our father love us all and will guide and bless us in the midst of our trials and challenges. Christ is the true shephard. l believe in him. i love him. the spirit is really present in righteous music. ette.
Thank you Christie for watching. I really appreciate your comments. I also enjoyed seeing some of the videos on your channel. Are you affiliated with the Northern Utah Youth Symphony? Best wishes.
Yes. I am their Woodwind Coach. My colleague, Maestro Conrad Dunn conducts it. We worked together a lot when we both lived in Salt Lake City. I have also taught Elementary Band for 23 years now. I play 13 instruments, but by far, the Oboe and English Horn are my most favorite instruments to play, followed closely by clarinet, saxophone, piano, and trumpet. Plus, my English Horn happens to be the very one that was used in the movie "Robinhood, Prince of Thieves" with Kevin Costner. The gal I bought it from in 1993 said she did studio work on the side and recorded the movie in 1991 with that English Horn. It was over 60 years old, then. I feel so privileged to now own it!
It would be hard to overstate how much this hymn means to me! The spirit of it is encapsulated in the phrase "and like a child at home"! This hymn is so comforting and inspiring! I am thankful to the Choir and Orchestra and to you Ms G for bringing us this beautiful performance!
That is wonderful! Mack did an amazing job writing the flute, oboe, and harp instrumental parts. The hymn has such a rich satisfying spirit; it is a joy to perform it. I am sure you will do beautifully. Best wishes.
1. My Shepherd will supply my need; Jehovah is His Name; In pastures fresh He makes me feed Beside the living stream. He brings my wand’ring spirit back When I forsake His ways, And leads me, for His mercy’s sake, In paths of truth and grace. 2. When I walk thru the shades of death, Thy presence is my stay; A word of Thy supporting breath Drives all my fears away. Thy hand, in sight of all my foes, Doth still my table spread; My cup with blessings overflows; Thine oil anoints my head. 3. Love to see you every conference playing the flute, I can feel your amazing spirit, thank you so much. One day I will have the privilege to see you in person. Thank you again. Hugs from Peru
Krystel, it is so wonderful to hear from you and thank you very very much for your kindness and hugs. I would love to meet you when you come to conference. Best wishes.
This rendition was recorded when the Choir was still at its peak, and is, of all of their other recordings of this hymn, still the best rendition of all. The musical setting by Max Wilburg, pays appropriate tribute to both the writer of the words, Mr. Isaac Watts, called the "Father of English Hymnody," and William W. Bradford, who set the poem to music.
This is a personal favorite. I also like the piano arrangement of Alessandro Pepe, who is a friend of mine, of this same hymn. He is also a very gifted young musician and composer from Italy. Thanks for posting this wonderful hymn. I feel the Spirit each time I listen to it!
Thank you very much Charmane! Tamara, Bonnie, and the choir members are such wonderful musicians. It is a real joy to perform with them. I enjoyed hearing you on your channel. All the best.
I feel honored that you looked up my own music! Thank you so much! I keep returning to this youtube post. When it comes to letting my shoulders come down and accepting/loving life-as-it's-given, this is pure musical medicine.
Maravilhoso hino, ouvi pela primeira vez no funeral de nosso amado Profeta Gordon B. Hinckley, não pude resistir o grande espírito que tocou minha alma.

Sung at the funeral of a friend of mine (by his own cancer doctor!). RIP Jim Dore.
It is beautiful. I cannot sing it because I cry through it every time. But the message is like hands around a mug of hot chocolate after shoveling snow.
Jesus Christ Savior Lord and King is the Good Shepherd.
I sang this song when I was in high school chorus, and it's every bit as beautiful as I remember, sung by this choir. So perfect!
It is a great song. I hope you are still singing everyday. All the best.

My Shepherd will supply my need:
Jehovah is His Name;
In pastures fresh He makes me feed,
Beside the living stream.
He brings my wandering spirit back
When I forsake His ways,
And leads me, for His mercy's sake,
In paths of truth and grace.
When I walk through the shades of death,
Thy presence is my stay;
A word of Thy supporting breath
Drives all my fears away.
Thy hand, in sight of all my foes,
Doth still my table spread;
My cup with blessings overflows,
Thine oil anoints my head.
The sure provisions of my God
Attend me all my days;
O may Thy house be my abode,
And all my work be praise!
There would I find a settled rest,
While others go and come;
No more a stranger, nor a guest,
But like a child at home.
These wonderful words always lift my spirit. Thank you!
Thank you.
