So blessed that I was able to be a part of this choir and this performance and let the Spirit of our Lord touch ears and hearts even today. One of the greatest experiences of my life.
It was the Priesthood Session. The conductor at the time, Rosalind Hall, led the Men's Chorus and the Concert Choir. So most of the people in this group were from her choirs. She did most of our rehearsal and teaching of this song. We had a small number of men from Dr. Staheli's University Singers with us also. This was Dr. Staheli's arrangement, so, logically, he led the group in singing. However, since Sister Hall was a woman, she wasn't invited to even come to the Conference Center to hear us live. She later said she had to listen from the back of her stake center overflow and she was so proud of us.
Hank Smith and John Bytheway suggested that we listen to this powerful plea for God to stay by our side from 2 Nephi 4. My heart and soul are encompassed by the depth that these young men performed 9 years ago. I pray that they have continued on in their lives true, faithful, believing, and sharing the sacredness of the importance of having our Lord be present in all that they do and are. President Nelson's prophetic that we will not be able to stand without an active abiding faith and the constant companionship of The Holy Ghosts' guidance for protection, he is the very best friend one could ever have, I know this to be true, for sure. President Nelson also said that being a comfortable Christian as was in the past doesn't work for the time in which we now live. So many disruptive oppositions are being imposed on the human mind. Thank you for this powerful music.
In my humble opinion arguably the finest male chorus live recording ever put on tape/digital media. Tone, phrasing, arrangement, everything pretty much perfect but the overriding thing is the impact of the emotional delivery of these men- it’s so powerful. A very special piece of choral work and very hard to match anywhere.
I remember watching this live when it was broadcast. It is the only time a choir left me in awe. I was shocked at how good this was. Incredible performance that is, to this day, the best I have ever heard.
Easily one of the most beautiful mens choir pieces i’ve ever heard. And they happen to be singing an adaptation one of the most powerful chapters in the Book of Mormon. Doesn’t get much better than this.
Discovered this at the invitation of Hank Smith and John Bytheway in their podcast “Follow Him”. What a great song! I had never heard this, and it is powerful. I love the Lord as well, and am so grateful for His Redeeming Love!
I play this song at least 5 times everyday, especially in the morning and before sleep. Thank you for reminding me to be thankful to my God everyday. I love this choir.
Two things come into my mind as I hear this piece of spiritual manna from heaven: 1 - I literally thank God for my beloved mom, who taught me to appreciate good and uplifting music. Never do I hear beautiful music without saying a silent prayer of gratitude for her wisdom. 2 - I thank my Heavenly Father for His Son, Jesus Christ, for without Christ there is simply no goodness and beauty, and therefore no reason to sing. I owe you both, everything. Thank you.
This video has just over half a million views... and I'm willing to bet I've personally accounted for at least 100K of those! Such a beautiful arrangement and extremely talented choir.
I was at a Priesthood Session of General Conference where after the closing prayer they sang this. The whole audience in the Stake Center I was at stopped in their tracks to listen to this. It is so beautiful and meaningful.
What a beautiful hymn and sung with such spiritual power! Whenever this comes up in my feed, I listen to it and feel so thankful for my Savior and His atoning sacrifice for me and for each of us.
Who in the world would unlike this performance? Ther are 47 Thumbs Down. Rediculous. I was in the building for this very performance. Seeing it on youtube is nothing like being there live. Words cannot describe how wonderful it was.
I agree. I too was there, and I've never experienced anything like it. At the end, it's like we were all speechless. I turned to my friend (he and I have sung together multiple times, and know music) after about a minute and asked him, "What just happened?" It was incredibly powerful!
You can find anything good here on UA-cam or anywhere else for that matter and always--always--find people who simply do not, cannot, or refuse to see/hear/taste that which is truly good. I, too, am with you. It is just a mystery to me why anyone would thumbs down this music, this arrangement, this choir, this performance, this power, and this message. Unfathomable.
@@charlotteadamson638 It was performed in the Conference Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in downtown Salt Lake City on March 31, 2007, as the closing number at the priesthood session of the Church's April 2007 General Conference. I wish after the tabernacle choir or byu choir sing we just give like a 5 minute standing ovation like the churches choirs are astounding!! Thank the LORD for the restoration!!!
Honesty this is one song that I can’t get over, even as an exmormon. It is the haunting and rhythmic melody that makes my heart feel light. This song and “Savior, redeemer of my soul.” Are two of the best songs Mormons have produced.
I love this hymn "I Love the Lord." I believe in God and He helps to sustain me each day. Through my prayers andmy human interactions I try to show people the love of God. Thank you so much BYU Mens Choruses. Sincerely, Robert S. J. Hu November 23, 2018. Special thank you to Dan Sage and others who made this vid.
these words are so inspiring they remind me of how my low moments in life he is still there listening and he is always there. That is a peace that is indescribable.
When I here these men sing this song, it confirms to me that I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints and it's the Lord's Church and it's true!
That last cord was ethereal!! I love this sooo muuuchhh!!!! It’s so real. If I was the one making the part where they sing about being in a world of sin, I would make it less intense because I feel sad about it so it would be a particularly gentle part. Yeah I love the Lord too and I have been sad about being in this world my whole life. I miss Him from premortal life even though I don’t remember.
I am just speechless and teary eyed listening to this choir. Such a beautiful hymn and so well performed. All of you sang from your heart with perfection. Thank you so much and God bless you all!
My peace destroyed, my enemies previal. So much truth in this sentence. An the part about being in someone's thrall. 👌 The harmony in the whole chorus, perfection.
This tune is part of the great composer Jean Sibelius "Finlandia" .Telling the story of Finlands struggle against an invader who wanted to take our freedom. Please listen to the whole konsert.feel the thunder out in the world, the coming of the enemies, the fighting and the sighing from a country in despair and THEN listen carefully to the softer music when you can imagine an army in torn uniforms kneeling in the battlefield praying for help from Above and THEN comes this beatyful tune with comfort and promise of help. You will never forget this tune after that!! The original words are freely translated : O,Finland see Your morning light is rising You see the hostile night is fading out The night is gone again You freely breathe Your morning's braking o Fatherland. We got a country out of many countries It is our home it is our heart so near Here are our roots here our hands are meeting This barren country so dear to us!
Please plan to come to Kenya some day. I hope to watch you live here in Kenya or wherever I will be able to catch you, and maybe sing with you some day. God bless you. you bless me.
"For straight is the gate, and narrow is the way that leadeth unto life and salvation; and few there be who enter therein." = if not sure which way is right, at least the majority will inadvertently give you clues ;)
Do the subtitles have to be so big? It takes some pleasure away. You hardly need subtitles anyway - their pronunciation is perfect - which is no small feat for a choir. Just fabulous!
I used to not be a fan of subtitles; however, being that I am more of a visual learner/receiver, the visual texts assist me in focusing more on the message of the lyrics. You are so right that their pronunciation is very clear.

I played this video for my beginning men's chorus (mostly 9th graders). Most of them were in tears by the end of the piece. Absolutely beautiful.
You are very wise to choose such a beautiful and touching piece. Crying because beauty touches your soul is what real men do.

Yes, but this is a "contrafactum" (same melodia and different text). In this case take the text of a mormon book Psalm.
