think about why that is though? the labels want to make money so they push the acts that do that for them.. the audience is killing the quality of hip hop with their wallets
Rap has hit that 80's hair metal moment is about the end of it entering the grunge or stripped Era that's becoming really niche and on the verge from exiting the billboard in a decade or so, it'll be alt pop type shit
The thing is the industry is glorifying less talent and more trendy productions as time goes on. Honestly man producers should be getting more credit than rappers these days.
@@ScottThePisces I can definitely blame the industry they only care about money and not the art they also seem to think they entitled to another man’s hard earned money I hate record labels they are true scumbags. The thing is, rap has always been a genre that’s relied on reinventing itself over and over to stay relevant in the wider musical world. For whatever reason there hasn’t been a serious movement since the 2016/17 soundcloud days (and those seeds had already been sown by Lil B, Soulja Boy, chief keef etc. in 2010-2013). I don’t think any one artist is going to be able to revolutionise things anytime soon. Carti has his goth look but that’s more just a reflection of pop culture currently, which is moving to that 2000’s type alternative/emo style (and carti is a product of the soundcloud era anyway). It also has to be remembered that rap dominated the late 00s and the entirety of the 2010s, unfortunately that means it’s logical that it may just be heading for a period of unavoidable decline in popularity and quality for a bit. Its happened to every genre, just not rap/trap until now because it’s was always the ‘new’ thing. Punk rock was huge in the 90s and 2000s but was absolutely dead in the mainstream for the last 10 years, now it’s well and truly coming back, that’s probably what will happen with rap eventually.
these timelines are crazy lol rap wasn't the most pop genre till 2010s when Wayne passed the torch to Drake. 00s was the setup with Wayne, Kanye, Jeezy, & Gucci. Hip-hop reinvented itself like rock did prior for many decades. Bands like Blink 182 & Green Day were more or less some of the popular acts in the late 90s but that was after Nirvana & the rest of grunge had its way in the early to mid 90s. Hip-hop won't always be the most popular genre, and personally, I'm ready for us to move past this stagnant ass time where we're in limbo for it. Music works in cycles, but that's in generality, something new tends to surface even with sound that start trending again. I'm ready for the change.
Not only this bro, but all of the biggest innovators within the past decade unfortunately passed... it's so sad to see the likes of Pop Smoke, Juice, X, Peep, Von, PnB Rock, Nipsey, etc gone so soon. They were some of the ones carrying on the torch during that transitionary period right around 2016-2020. Now what's left are all these mainstream rappers who don't bring anything new or innovative. The underground however is still thriving but don't get enough recognition to push innovation.
The best thing for rap, quality wise, is to be forced out of the top spot in the mainstream. That pop spot requires more conformity. But as it goes back to the streets/underground, the genre can get new life -- a breath of fresh air and creativity. This is what happens with house and electronic dance music every 10-20 years. It's heavy in the underground, rises to the mainstream for 5 years or so, becomes extremely formulaic and boring, then gets pressed back underground where it evolves or even regresses back to a prior state before pop influences. Same could be happening to rap.
I saw Nas and Wutang live recently. Let me tell you, whether they 50 or not those guys absolutely murdered the show. Their love and passion for hip hop still runs so deep!!

Just because you don’t care about lyricism doesn’t mean other people don’t. It’s still extremely important to the genre. I’m not saying every artist needs to be lyrical (for example, Travis is a horrible writer but still a great artist) but telling McKinley Dixon to dumb down his writing? That’s crazy. It was extremely refreshing to get a new artist with a beautiful soundscape AND INCREDIBLE, UNIQUE WRITING. Kitchen lights also would not have been nearly as good without the impactful storytelling from Gunn. Wordplay also plays a huge role in making hard hitting punchlines and keeping you engaged with the artists performance. I hate hearing the same incredibly monotonous bars from every single rapper. Good writing makes the MUSIC better.
Brother the same can be said for every other aspect of music, just cuz u can tolerate Westside bumm’s annoying ass voice doesn’t mean we all wanna hear it. Every single yeat beat is the same and could literally be a UA-cam type beat, so I don’t know why you’re making that comparison considering EVERY aspect of Griselda music is better than Yeats.

95% of these "rappers" today are unlistenable. I grew up on that golden era of Hip Hop/Rap from the 90s and early 2000s. The main thing that separates this current era from the 90s and early/mid 2000s is the different sounds those rappers had back then compared to today. I wish I had appreciated artists like Macklemore a lot more back in 2012. Looking back, The Heist was better than most of the shit you hear today. I bet nobody outside the ages of 10-19 knows Lil Mabu, DDG, Blueface, and the rest of them trash people you mentioned. We're currently in the worst era of Hip Hop since its birth!
Those 2023 utopia leaks were insane, check them out if you haven’t. I mostly got by just listening to everyone’s leaks last year, hardly listened to anything new. Future sounds, vision, Cinderella and heartbeat all go crazy, Travis is vibe king for sure.

Kitchen Lights is the HARDEST Westside Gunn song I ever heard. The serene feel and angelic melody…my goodness!!! “If you sniff powder/don’t sell powder.” 🎉
The industry can make a come back but the problem is US THE AUDIENCE WE FEED OF GIMMICKS AND ANTICS THEN THE MUSIC ITSELF PERFECT EXAMPLE BLUEFACE AND CHRISEAN like let’s be real we only listen to the tracks to hear if they replied to beef or if it’s a diss song.we not listening to enjoy music that’s why imma keep saying this till that day when the audience start to care for the music again the label will stop pushing artist to do gimmicky or clout chasing shit
This what what happens when we dont empower underground hiphop. Even the mainsteam fans get bored and end up (eventually) agreeing with me. Mainsteam rap is just straight up underpopulated. Drake + 3-4 artists at a time cannot hold an ENTIRE culture together by themselves. Mainstream rap is like 2% of all rap. Or even less.
This is the reason why the SoundCloud era was so great because new artists would reveal themselves what seemed like almost daily and garner attention. The underground started to merge with the mainstream. But, because of this, labels started to lose their control on the game so they had to do something about it, now down the line this is the product of that control.
@@snapkrrthat era was like the grunge of hip hop. The artists involved were extremely influential but a lot of them died before they could expand the sound
i remember larry june from like pre xxl era and he’s grown so much. and i hopped on westside gunn a few years back and ian even mad. honestly hella happy they’re both getting more recognition in the game
“The new wave is using sound to connect, not lyrics” so mozart is new wave? im starting to realize despite the streaming accessibility, this new gen doesnt listen to anything outside of rap, so they think its ground breaking when rap does something other genres have been doing for over 100 years. Ambient music has been doing what travis did 30 years ago.

Picksixx is an African-American rapper from Los Angeles, California. He has gained recognition for his unique style and captivating lyrics. Some of his popular songs include "Shake sum" and "Sneak Link." His music combines catchy beats with clever wordplay, making it a must-listen for hip-hop fans. If you're into rap music with a fresh vibe, I definitely recommend giving Picksixx a listen
Every single person who says this generation of hip hop is killing it sounds exactly like the people who said it about the last generation, just because YOU don’t like what’s popular doesn’t mean it’s bad. And idgaf what anyone says Sexyy Red is fun as F**K to listen to SkeeYee!
lmao Tyler is like the age most rappers from the 90s to 2000s enter their prime (Jay Z released Blueprint at 32, Kanye MBDTF at age 33, Snoop had his first number 1 single Drop It Like It's Hot at 33)
Mainstream is just garbage rn. Even a few years ago the mainstream was at least passable, but now it’s just cancer. Hopefully since UMG took their music off tiktok we can get some actual decent music meant for listening and not viral tiktoks
The fact that someone thinks people who dont like Yeat are all oldheads who only like lyrical spiritual miracle individuals just shows how out of touch some of yall are No, juat because I think Yeat is fuckin trash doesnt mean I am an oldhead. I just think that unlike Uzi or Thug, Yeat's vocals are ass and monotonous, hes close to NAV level💀
Same with Sexy Redd, Im not an oldhead lyrical individual and I still think she is trash The fact that she even stayed relevant makes me wonder wtf happened to the genre. When I listened to GloRilla I didnt necessarily enjoy her music but I could at least see why some men enjoy it, but with Sexy Redd I dont see the appeal, I dont get how someone as a man can enjoy her shit, for me its like the equivalent of an white young girl listening to DMX, it makes no sense for me💀💀
22:30 I promise you this wasn’t on purpose lol. The concept of utopia essentially was just “whatever you make it out to be” and that’s pretty lame imo considering how much the concept was hyped.
Hard for art to have life in 2023. Movies are dead, skateboarding is fucked, fashion is super duper done. Hip hop is gone now cause of the sell out landscape.
What makes hiphop unique is that it can be anything…totally stylistically malleable. Shifts over decades more than other genres because of that. It’s at its core the attitude of making something out of nothing more than all the cliches/styles people associate with it. That attitude comes from within and we experience different levels of authenticity in various waves over the years. The industry relies on exploiting the authenticity to survive. The product gets weaker and weaker as the exploitation escalates and runs itself into the ground. Then they need more artists to throw into the meat grinder to make things fresh again. Some artists manage to dodge that whole thing and do their own lane but as far as mainstream art and entertainment goes that’s the cycle.
The genre that's having a true moment right now is berlin techno trance and ghettotec - - Gigola, Mischluft, MCR-T, Miss Bashful, DBBD, a few others. This is where vibe of hip hop now lives
I happy Travis number one because Travis is mad talented like I wouldn’t use utopia to describe his best he has put out because I feel like the albums that convey his talent is rodeo and astroworld and the reason why is because production is spot on thanks to mike dean (mike inspired me to get into mixing and mastering) then the beat selection and production is always crazy with Travis and being that Travis is a producer himself that solidify him.plus yea Ik everybody will say travis sings with autotune but on the musical side the talent he has to create melodies that are catchy and hard hitting is something you can’t teach or make a singer who can sing pick up and people don’t understand but now people are slowly starting to pick up and it’s funny cuz all my friend used to laugh at me when I used to break this shit down and now the run back telling me I was right 3 years later 😂

Lmaoooooooooooooo
Those 2023 utopia leaks were insane, check them out if you haven’t. I mostly got by just listening to everyone’s leaks last year, hardly listened to anything new. Future sounds, vision, Cinderella and heartbeat all go crazy, Travis is vibe king for sure.
most of those r yrs old
@@oxydayz yeah ik, there’s a lot more going around but they keep getting deleted, I’m just always listening to that mix by @Curatixn the transitions are so good.
HIP HOP GOES THROUGH FACE AND SOUND CHANGES EVERY DECADE..LONG AS POVERTY AND INJUSTICE IS AROUND HIP HOP WILL LIVE ON..
Kitchen Lights is the HARDEST Westside Gunn song I ever heard. The serene feel and angelic melody…my goodness!!!
“If you sniff powder/don’t sell powder.” 🎉
You need to listen to Versace by him then
Dudley Boyz is a million times better
The industry can make a come back but the problem is US THE AUDIENCE WE FEED OF GIMMICKS AND ANTICS THEN THE MUSIC ITSELF PERFECT EXAMPLE BLUEFACE AND CHRISEAN like let’s be real we only listen to the tracks to hear if they replied to beef or if it’s a diss song.we not listening to enjoy music that’s why imma keep saying this till that day when the audience start to care for the music again the label will stop pushing artist to do gimmicky or clout chasing shit
my goat cochise will save rap when he finally fucking drops
Facts cochise goated

Dude I hope you make more of those battle rap videos. Those are hilarious!!
Nettspend, the Virginia Grim Reaper, is going to save the day☝🤓🔥
stop please not here too
LMFAOOOO 😂 u flaw for this
i remember larry june from like pre xxl era and he’s grown so much. and i hopped on westside gunn a few years back and ian even mad. honestly hella happy they’re both getting more recognition in the game
I love the satire. Subscribed
“Dad, come home, Duplee just uploaded” 🗣️
First time I felt exicted to see a rapper in 2019! Pop smoke!
i like the "storytelling" type feel of this video lol! keep up the good work! :D
Cant tell if he’s being ironic the entire video or if he’s dead serious
He's deadass
"Glorb" been making Spongebob Drill Raps using A.I and single handling humilhating the Hip Hop industry right now with goofiness.
He ain't humiliating nobody, but I do prefer him over icespice
I heard Kitchen Lights and immediately dropped one of my favorite edits on my insta
I'd relisten over and over with CHILLS
“The new wave is using sound to connect, not lyrics” so mozart is new wave? im starting to realize despite the streaming accessibility, this new gen doesnt listen to anything outside of rap, so they think its ground breaking when rap does something other genres have been doing for over 100 years. Ambient music has been doing what travis did 30 years ago.
hes talking abt the new wave of RAP, rap has always been abt lyrics predominantly, so it is very unusual for the genre.
Sexxy Red always sounds like she recording off a built in laptop mic😂, it’s just her voice tho
lil b actually made the best song of the year for the 15th year in a row.
Sexyy Red was actually flirting when she said YE-YEAT. She wants him, even more than I do, godspeed.
Live From the Kitchen Table is such a highlight I love your view on modern hip hop bro
Uk rap is as hot as ever, artists like
Dave
Potter payper
Nemzzz
Loyal carner
Knucks
Jhus
M huncho
Dbe
Digga d
& even central cee are putting music which is levels above the new generation of US music
Don't forget Little Simz. IMHO she's one of the best artists out right now.
@@munkycoolgaming Unknown T & Digga D showing respect to Hollowman with Adolescence yall need to put some respect on Giggs name for real Pain Is The Essence Ft Dubz is hard. The Way It Is (HARD) Ting Dem Ft Dubz (Hard) Breathe (Hard).
Man didn’t get banned from Lil Wayne for no reason and made Talking The Hardest which is the U.K. anthem
Little Man & Me might be one of the best song out the U.K. don’t get any real than that
i feel like a lot of people are either not educated enough or simply too pretentious when it comes to this topic, but hearing Yeat being praised like this in the same breath as Westside Gunn puts a big smile on my face
It’s actually insane how you were able to convince an entire audience that somehow lyrical density is somehow a critique and that your self awareness of your inability to consume it makes you more profound.
Shut up smart guy
My top 10 is
Real back is style - potter payper
Trojan horse - Dave x cench
Weedman - nines
Baby moms crib - m huncho x Digga d
Multifaceted- potter payper
Money or victims - potter payper
H2s - m huncho
Track flocaine - potter payper
Favela - nines
White ash - potter payper
i really feel ur perspective... there is some very exciting stuff going on in the game. nothing to worry about.. hiphop ist just evolving while some people got stuck in what they ears got used to in their teens or 20s... has always been the case with generations before ours.
My list would be:
1. Juice WRLD - No Good
2. Yeat - Bigger thën everything
3. Yeat - No morë talk
4. Tory Lanez - Hurts me
5. Morray & Lil Tjay - High price.
after that im not really sure, this order is kinda interchangeable too
I’ve now seen 3 other people on UA-cam choose different favorite songs on beloved! Paradise! Jazz!? then me. It’s kind of telling how amazing that album is just because of that.
1. Pa siempre - tainy, myke towers, omar courtz, jhayco, arcangel, arca, bad bunny
2. Fighting my demons - Ken Carson
3. IDGAF - Yeat, drake
4. En Alta - J Balvin, Quevedo, Omar Courtz, YOVNGCHIMI
5. Panties y Brasieles - Rauw Alejandro, Daddy Yankee
6. Suicide doors - lil uzi vert
7. Fighting myself - Linkin Park
8. FE!N / I know ? - Travis Scott

Bro destroyed half my playlists in the intro, I love Jack and Ken
plz don't cut my wings in the background ? great choice, my man
Unpopular opinion: though there's a new hiphop era some of them just replicate the old eras
Every single person who says this generation of hip hop is killing it sounds exactly like the people who said it about the last generation, just because YOU don’t like what’s popular doesn’t mean it’s bad. And idgaf what anyone says Sexyy Red is fun as F**K to listen to SkeeYee!
Tf is skeeyee
yeat luh savior of music 🤞
great video man 🔥
Are you being sarcastic.......can't tell..........
yeah a white guy is gonna tell us who is gonna save hip hop shit is insane
The intro is crazy💀💀💀
yeat carrying music on his back rn
Thank you needed this gang
JPEGMAFIA WILL SAVE RAP (I AM MENTALLY ILL)
even though tyler is old i feel like her can make a ground breaking album like her already has, he should be on this list i feel like
Tyler ain’t old. He’s 32 lmao.
Old? Tf?
lmao Tyler is like the age most rappers from the 90s to 2000s enter their prime (Jay Z released Blueprint at 32, Kanye MBDTF at age 33, Snoop had his first number 1 single Drop It Like It's Hot at 33)
he or her 😂
Is my music good?;
i’ve been watching you since you had 2k bro keep it up
My top 5 is:
1: glorb

Yuno Miles will save the rap game. He will redeem us.
KITCHEN LIGHTS, IS THE BEST 2023 SONG
Hip-hop is "dying" every decade
That lady part of what you said is very telling. You’ll never find “utopia” sweeping everything under the rug.
Really cant tell if you're trollin or nah....you've re-imagined sarcasm into something else....but i feel like you were trolling around 8-7
Hip Hop died when Charizma got shot in a botched stick up.
Hip hop ain't dead as long as 2016-2019 rappers like Lil Uzi, gunna & Lil tecca still gat a grip on it, it's if they all die that hip hop is cooked 💀
I love trap music with all my soul. But, in 2021 it was hopeless for me until my little brother introduced me to Yeat. Now life is awesome again.
yeat, all of opium, and travis scott are the only hope for trap right now thank god they becoming mainstream as of late
omg i love "bigger then everything". its in my top 1o as well
Mainstream is just garbage rn. Even a few years ago the mainstream was at least passable, but now it’s just cancer. Hopefully since UMG took their music off tiktok we can get some actual decent music meant for listening and not viral tiktoks
Redveil will reach Kendrick/ Kanye level. I promise you that
The fact that someone thinks people who dont like Yeat are all oldheads who only like lyrical spiritual miracle individuals just shows how out of touch some of yall are
No, juat because I think Yeat is fuckin trash doesnt mean I am an oldhead. I just think that unlike Uzi or Thug, Yeat's vocals are ass and monotonous, hes close to NAV level💀
Same with Sexy Redd, Im not an oldhead lyrical individual and I still think she is trash
The fact that she even stayed relevant makes me wonder wtf happened to the genre.
When I listened to GloRilla I didnt necessarily enjoy her music but I could at least see why some men enjoy it, but with Sexy Redd I dont see the appeal, I dont get how someone as a man can enjoy her shit, for me its like the equivalent of an white young girl listening to DMX, it makes no sense for me💀💀
How are they monotonous? Have you heard him at all?
@@lordinfernape4753 Watch the music video for Giggs - Ting Dem Ft.Dubz let me know if you think they both go hard on this track
22:30 I promise you this wasn’t on purpose lol. The concept of utopia essentially was just “whatever you make it out to be” and that’s pretty lame imo considering how much the concept was hyped.
Number#2
God Bless Griselda 🤲🏽⚖️🦂
loved the video Duplee, could edit your videos I feel like we could make it more engaging
Still pretty good tho nil
That Ocean Sounds and Kitchen lights were dead on. Both instant classics.
Aesop Rock needs to be popular. This is getting out of hand.
Hard for art to have life in 2023. Movies are dead, skateboarding is fucked, fashion is super duper done. Hip hop is gone now cause of the sell out landscape.
Sexy red represents St. Louis
FINALLY BRO! Lmao just kidding. Your content is fire man, you're my favorite UA-camr right now. Keep making bangers!
JID, Peggy, Larry June, Griselda as a whole, reason, Nick grant, etc etc. we will be fine
11:22 YES!!!!! SOMEONE HAD TO SAY IT🗣️🔥🔥💯💯
12:00 facts bro that search and rescue so hard g
I love this white boy 💯💪🏽 he understands the culture, as a hip hop artist, as a hip hop fan…. I feel loved🥰
18:52 RIDICULOUS 😂😂😂💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I happy Travis number one because Travis is mad talented like I wouldn’t use utopia to describe his best he has put out because I feel like the albums that convey his talent is rodeo and astroworld and the reason why is because production is spot on thanks to mike dean (mike inspired me to get into mixing and mastering) then the beat selection and production is always crazy with Travis and being that Travis is a producer himself that solidify him.plus yea Ik everybody will say travis sings with autotune but on the musical side the talent he has to create melodies that are catchy and hard hitting is something you can’t teach or make a singer who can sing pick up and people don’t understand but now people are slowly starting to pick up and it’s funny cuz all my friend used to laugh at me when I used to break this shit down and now the run back telling me I was right 3 years later 😂
what daw do u recommend?
The down fall of rap is when in the early 2010s the weird white kid fantano fans started listening to it and became a subculture of rap
Keep making videos, your hella funny LMFAO........ get a better camera tho fo sho lol
Griselda expansion will definitely revive hip hop.
search and rescue is a 10/10 song.
lol good one
Need more music recommendationz tbh left a like
Having multiple MIKE instrumentals and not mentioning him is crazyyyy
so happy you mentioned the great escape I loved the album and larry june is one of my favourite artists
2:25 lmaoooooooooooooooooo bro youre hilarious
