To clear your confusion at 15:18, Kenma is specifically talking about Hinata jumping at 100%. Because Hinata is short, his only chance of matching the height of the much taller blockers he is going up against is to jump at 100% which Hinata is only able to do when he has a full running approach. Even if Hinata is just one second late, it makes him completely useless because he no longer has the time to get a full running approach which in turn means that he can no longer jump at 100%. That's also why Hinata keeps saying "Running approach secured" throughout the movie during many rallies (since that's what he is aiming for) and Kenma's entire gameplan is centered around either denying him that running approach (by forcing Nishinoya to receive in a position that blocks Hinata's path) or delaying it by a second or two (by forcing Hinata to crouch low/dive to receive the ball). If you re-watch the scenes with this in mind the "strategy" aspect of the game will make much more sense. Hope this helps
23:20 it's not really that Kenma ran too far forward, Hinata actually just out-read him. He knew Kenma would notice the feint so he did a long push instead. Karasuno's first opponent at nationals did the same play against them, and I think Suga noticed that Hinata was taking note of it.
The handshake was such a beautiful moment man. Two rival coaches who never got to play at nationals, getting to see the ultimate offense and ultimate defence finally face off was such a powerful statement about why sport is so awesome.
30:50 The issue isn't that the matches are in movie format. The issue is that two movies cannot cover the remaining manga materials. One movie is about 4-5 episodes long, so two movies would be at most 10 episodes. That's not enough one cour, but the remaining materials would need a whole season. Otherwise, it would feel really rushed.
The part where you said it felt like a goodbye... It really was a goodbye.. because this is Kuroo, Yaku and Kai's last game with this Nekoma team as they were graduating.. and Kenma seemed like he didn't care but he really did.. He stayed in the volleyball team because of Kuro, he almost quit when he was a first year because of the mean senpais.. yeah.. But the new official art showed 1st yr university student Kuro visiting 3rd yr Kenma, 2nd yrs Tsukki, Kageyama and Hinata's practice game which was so cool. I hope Furudate-sensei draws more official arts on moments we won't see since the manga ended.. Honestly, Haikyuu is my best comfort anime.. I always rewatch it.. I remember watching season 1 in 2014 so I am happy that 10 yrs later we made Kenma admit he enjoys volleyball hahahaha Thank you again for sharing your reaction. I loved the way you laughed at the moments I laughed. I really appreciate you!
Tsuki smiling in the game is the most precious moment in the game. ❤️ You were asking how Kenma knows when Hinata is at 100% for his attack. So with Hinata, he's a middle blocker, which does quick attack (the minus tempo) all the time. Going back to season 2, minus tempo is the attack has already jumped in the air right before the setter sets the ball. That means the attacker needs to get an approach and run quite early after the first touch of the ball. Any hesitation, or an unbalance after saving a ball, Hinata wouldn't have enough time to get a full approach for a quick attack. Another thing about Kageyama's high set to Hinata, you were comparing it with how Kageyama set a higher bar for Tsuki. But it's actually different. The Tsuki set was still a quick attack (first tempo). Kageyama just set the ball slightly higher to push Tsuki's hitting point higher, but it's still a quick attack. The high set for Hinata is different. It's a third tempo, which means the ball is so high, you have a lot of time to adjust your approach and timing to hit the ball. What Kageyama did there was to create time for Hinata to get a full approach. Hope that gives you a bit more insight to the game. 😀
Look as a manga reader I give the match 10/10 but in anime 8/10 I enjoye it a lot actually when I did rewatch it people need to understand that the movie took the nekoma as the protagonist and karasuno the enemy or rival etc .. that's why it feels different yeah some cut moments there and there are little bit annoying but the quality they put in the animation and especially the scene with Hinata big jumb they did it very well that was phenomenal to be honest better then the manga
Yo I was going to watch it in the theater and decided not to, and when it came out on Crunchyroll even then I was like, yeah I'll get to it when I get to it, finally got around to it 2 days ago and MAN was I crying so much from the nostalgia and all the feel good moments, I really forgot how much I loved Haikyu like I was excited for the movie but I didn't realize how hyped I really was until I started watching it, I think it hits even harder for those of us that have been waiting since the last season aired, I forget how many years ago now
I am lucky that there are a lot of fans in our country, we watched the movie in a sold out cinema! I was traumatized by the ticketing line, it was so long and 4 showing times were already sold out when we went.. Everyone was so excited and cheering and all! It is really nostalgic, specially for us. I watched with brother who forced me to watch season 1 in 2014.. I'm very thankful for him.
I really love the movie, I do, it's amazing and beautiful but I hate how much they cut, in most matches we get to know something from at least two or three players from other teams and the rest get their moment, but in this match we already knew every single member so there were no need for introduction to their character, we got something from everyone every single character from both teams, I knew they had to cut when they turn it into a movie, and with the time they had they did a fantastic job, but while I knew when going to see it that they cut a lot, and I even knew that my favourite parts weren't there I was still amazed at just how much they cut. I'll give examples, but it will sound a bit to harsh and that I don't appreciate the movie, I do, and I don't fault those who worked on it, they did an amazing job with what they were give, I'm only faulting the ones that decided to make it a movie, if you don't want to read criticism then it's fine, as I said it's a great movie, I really liked it but I do wish we had the many awsome or emotional moments that were cut. Everyone had their own moment or more that weren't in, Daichi, Kageyama, anyone from either team, Inokua had a way larger part, hell, even Kenma had more amazing moments and Hinata was way smarter and did a lot of tactics, he didn't just relay on Kageyama's set and the BOOM jump. I feel they rushed to much the first set, we rarely get to see a full set of Karasuno losing, especially animated, they usually rush through them (like the 3 set in shiratorizawa that was longer in the manga while in anime they almost didn't show a single point) so even though I knew Nekoma was going to win that set I felt Karasuno was scoring more, until they showed the score board and apparently Nekoma was in the lead, I didn't feel that. Karasuno also celebrated waaay more winning the second set, and with reason, it was the first time they took a single set from them!! Also, yes, the animation and direction was amazing but every time they did a rally my first thought wasn't about the quality, it was "Wait! we are already at *that* rally!? but what about x,y and z rally? they were important" they rushed through the sets in a match against a defense specialist, where the rallys were made to feel looooong and eternal on pourpose What also hurt me was the subtle yet significant change in Kuroo's backstory, in the manga it was all about him actually being super shy, even more than Kenma, the complete opposite to movie Kenma's "he was always like that", I was like "NoO!? What do you mean he was always like that? he wasn't", the way it was presented in the manga made me cry, I don't know it hit different. And don't get me started on the libero moments that were cut!! They usually don't get as much attention, and they cut the most coolest moments from both of them! In a match with a defense specialist team!?? There were also scenes such as Tsukki telling Kuroo "thanks to everyone it's fun" that were just a tad longer but that made it more emotional to me. And also Daichi and Kuroo had a speach that ended with "that's why we hate this guys" showing both teams smiling at each other... It just was soooo emotional to me And Kenma!! I liked the first person pov, I really do, but the faces Kenma was making, especially at Lev, they were priceless!! I know it was impossible from the get go to have every single scene, unless it was like 3 hs long, I'm aware, I'm just a bit sad that some will never read the match at it's full potential, also, I'm scared since they did that with the most anticipated match I don't know how they'll handle what's left
I'm just happy they produced it.. a lot of fans waited almost 4 yrs for it.. I almost died of COVID and one of my fried fevered brain thoughts was I would die not seeing the Karasuno and Nekoma official match.. and when Yuri On Ice movie was cancelled, I was more grateful that Haikyuu was not cancelled.. No hate to you, just saying that I am thankful even if this is short and there were cuts.
Preach. I'm on the same boat. It's okay to hace critism, specially with things we love. I hope the studio realizes what they could improve for the next movie cause this needed to be longer and not cut out important moments. We watch/read Haikyuu for the characters, not just the match, and the actual games bring so much from the characters.
