Almost missed that couple second 6 weeks after shot! Your efforts totally deserve a proper, more detailed "before/after" showcase, even as a reel would be fine too! I'd love to see it.
Hi there, Like you I’ve been growing bonsai and children for 26 years, and I don’t want to sell the kids either. I’ve not been following any golden bonsai rules that you recommend. Thanks for the inspiration! I might just send you a DM for advice it that’s ok 👍
So glad I found this channel! I am going to get into bonsai and was randomly looking for resources and found this! Amazing work, thank you so much for your content! Subscribed.
Found you today, if you're still reading comments and as it's soon winter maybe a "if you start in the winter" guide could be helpful, or I assume the root work which might happen on the channel soon?
I really appreciate all the potentilla specific tips. I love these but have killed a few because I was not sure what i was doing. Every plant is so unique!
Truly excellent tutorial Darren thank you. I also particularly liked the choice of peaceful background music I became aware of around 16:10 mins in... Lovely!
Love all of your videos. I wish I would have known these tips a year ago. I cut back all branches to trunk. Perhaps the reason I have lost so many trees. Thank you!
Nice some interesting information wrapped up in humourous rambling, I like it.. You make it accessable to us regular folk. I've been spending too much time watering to do any work on the wee trees. Hopefully it'll cool done and I'll get on with trimming and start summer cuttings. The tank top is back but it is darn hot again, maybe you could invest in some brushed cotton shirts. May not go full Peter Chan with Hawaiian shirts, but he could pull off a loud shirt.
Wowee, just in time! I just collected a small potentilla (I know it's not the best time, but it would have been removed and thrown away, so I might try and save it) Excellent tips! Cheerio!
Love your videos, hopefully I'll be getting my first bonsai in the next few weeks but I wanted to ask a few questions first, how would you recommend transferring a fica microcarpa into a bigger pot? And how long would you recommend waiting after repotting to trim?, a bit long winded but I really want to have a go, it looks very relaxing 😊
I really love your videos sir.. It makes me want to start my bonsai works.. I'd seen a lot of interesting trees before that has been cut and sprouts or had interesting patterns specially that I had a lot of times in the farms and mountain during my early years..
Nice work Darren! I've seen old Potentillas with amazing dead vein features, but I agree they can be dreadfully brittle if you don't handle them respectfully 😊 Hasn't it been chuffing hot here, I've moved all my trees into the shade on a north/northwest facing wall. They get the evening sun, but they aren't being blasted. It gives me a cool place to sit and tend them too 😉🥵
Am about to run to the nursery getting myself a potentilla asap. Followed the link to your patreon and didn't find any more videos. Will you be posting a follow up for continued care of my DIY bonsai?
Hi sorry for the delay. Potentilla are one of my very favourites so will always be featured on this channel. The tree I started in this video will be ready for work in the summer, I will do an update after :)
I've recently picked up three plants from a local nursery (three because I figure it gives me a better chance for at least one to succeed) -- Escallonia, Lonicera Nitida and (I think) Oregon Boxleaf. I did an early light prune (wish I'd seen your video first!) and waiting impatiently to repot in a few months (I'm in Surrey). This was a very reassuring video, thanks! I hadn't thought to dig down to find the nebari, so I'm looking forward to that as my next step. Looking forward to seeing your next installment.
@@grobonsai Nothing to be sorry for, I meant that the lifeveins can die back was news to me, which makes this specimen a little bit unattractive because it is not easy to handle. But you did handle it well, no question. I have 3 potentilla from seed, they still look like herbs after idk 3 years or so, I guess they will never grow into a bush like form. They are weird plants.
Hey, Is there a special kind of seed to grow bonsai from or can you grow it from a classic tree and just pot it small so it doesn't grow? For example a fruit tree bonsai from a regular fruit seed would be great if you could answer this love your content even tho I just started watching you!!
There’s no special bonsai seed, any seeds can be used. Like breeding any organism, seed from a parent plant that has desirable characteristics has an increased chance of inheriting those characteristics. But it is not guaranteed.
I have 0 interrest in bonsai keeping. But I just love the way you love bonsai trees and making videos.
Thanks that’s really kind

Great suggestion, this is going to be a series of vids on the same tree so I’ll include more after details in future episodes. Thanks
Been watching you from the beginning. I just love your approach and comedic style please dont ever stop.
Thanks for supporting the channel Jules
Love your videos I'm just getting into the brilliant and addictive world of Bonsai. Thanks for helping me learn along the way :)
Definitely addictive! Thanks for watching
Thanks Darren, looking forward to the next instalment.
Thanks Al, your Rhodohypoxis is ready, please message me your address and I’ll pop it in the post next week

Hey I recently just found your channel and I’m so happy I did. This gives me hope on a hobby I was always so afraid to try. Thank you friend 💚
Thank you for the kind comment!

We all made mistakes, I still do
Truly excellent tutorial Darren thank you. I also particularly liked the choice of peaceful background music I became aware of around 16:10 mins in... Lovely!
Thank you Kate, glad it was helpful and the music is not too distracting.
That chunk of potentilla would make a great cutting.
Oh I love potentilla they make my day every time I water them
new fav channel
Watching your videos, I was amazed by your passion for bonsai plants!
Love your videos
Been getting into this kind of tree myself. Mine are not as big as this yet but still beautiful, I just love the trunks they tend to create.

It’s fine to do that on most broadleaf species,
As long as it’s healthy and timing is ok

This is one of your best instructionals yet. Thanks broski. 😎🍺🍺
Thanks man sorry I’m flakey on social media at the moment. Congratulations on the arrival of your baby girl
Ok, I'm in. Gotta go get one of these tomorrow.
Got some more videos on making them on the way in Spring, on the repotting steps

Perfect! Thanks
Hope all is well with you and yours, miss your channel ls weekly shows .
Hey. Would love to see an update on the portulacaria bonsai. Love the videos!

Thanks Jauna that’s good to hear
I feel like I just learned a lot. Great video, dude! Please keep them coming :)
Thanks 🙏 let me know if there are specific subjects you would like to see more of
I found your channel through UA-cam shorts, i think i found a new hobby to look into 👀
Thanks that’s great news
gud vid, the end was a bit weird though, would have liked to see a bit more of the 6 weeks later part
Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it. There will be a follow up ASAP
A beautiful tree
Love it!!
I have no choice but to subscribe

As usually, a consice and informative video. I do see a lot of cutting material to grow more shrubs. ...... it must be the nursery man in me 😁😁😁😁
Thanks Kenneth - yes there is a tray of cuttings doing well 😁

I’ve got some Lonicera content in the pipeline
Sorry pressed send by accident! Escallonia apparently are great but not tried them myself. Glad the video has helped 😀
@@grobonsai that's good news. They are so pretty -- I think it's my favourite of the three so I hope I can do it justice. Thanks for your reply.
@@grobonsai Excellent news! :)
Nice to watching this video ...
Thanks bro..
Thanks for watching
I learned about Potentilla, so much that I do not even like it anymore ! 😅👍
Thx for sharing.

Nice bonsai 🙏🙏🙏👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Hi, Could we get an update on this bonsai tree please?
It will be ready in March/April 2023 😊
Nice 👏👏👏
Do you have something in common with Biffa play games ? You have the exact same voice XD.
I must have a very generic voice because folks on social media have likened it to all sorts from David Attenborough to Gordon Ramsey, jackfrags, 🤷♂️
the link to choosing the right material is a private video
Thanks for the heads up, I’ve updated it. It’s this video ua-cam.com/video/H_zcLQIIa38/v-deo.html
