So basically, Duke finally finds people he can relate to, only to find out he's back at square one. Same kinda relationship he had with his dad and old friends, the kinda shit he ran away from home for
I mean, he probably have to fight a war for the most of his second life against the werewolves, under a guy that reminds him of his father, with his friends telling him to go kill himself as soon as he decides to leave.
Compare it to the Duke’s life now, living in a manor, with his “wife”?- who sure murdered him, but hey they now have a good relation. Heck even when he was dead he was better off than with these “friends”.
Damn...
I think on one hand, its good he recognised the pattern and was brave enough to move away from it, but it doesn't excuse how he acted towards Missy. I just hope he manages to atone for how he acted towards her, have her forgive him ans her help him to stand his ground against all those self important vampires as she seems like quite the powerful being herself!
@@05bastille I mean he's already made up with Missy. Although only after they fought like cats and dogs to the point they got tired of it and seemingly accepted that all they had was eachother anyway.
BUt then in the next video they were strolling around town like a couple so they seem fine.
We hadn't seen him confront the vamires yet though.

Man, my man Duke can’t catch a break. His toxic childhood relationship with his vampire hunter father, the same relationship with Artemis’s nest, and being actively tossed out by them as well. At least he now has Missy. Maybe he and Missy will make a Werewolf friend and totally kick Artemis’ ass!! I hope they do!
Guess it depends on how he daels with this. He might have to kill his way out of here... turns out he's really powerful, more powerful than any of them by far.
@@taddad2641 Something tells me that Artemis and his cohorts may come back to "settle things" with Duke. If that happens, then at least Duke and maybe Werewolf friend will be by his side.

there are a few scenes where Jaye looks more concerned then angry. like during the "your gonna die alone part" it looked more like she was warning him. and when she dropped the knife she looked so sad to do it. like she doesnt want to hurt duke, but knows she has to play her part or end up in dukes place

Perhaps, deep down, even she regrets the words coming out of her mouth but is so angry at Duke she doesn’t care
Duke is the most poor person, from childhood to his present age. He needs everyone's love, but his failure and fear stop him from doing so.
It hurts to see him get isolated again. But he stood his ground. He knows senseless killing. He didn’t want any part of it then, he didn’t want any part of it now.
well it looks like present time he might finally have someone, even if it started with them killing and dismembering each other

not failure and fear, the people around him are JERKS and he is right to not associate with them. His father was a violent maniac who lived to kill vampires, and the vampires here are also violent maniac who live to kill human and werewolves, none of them are good or even try to be good, his decision to leave them is right!
I really feel bad for Duke
I think from the previous episode " A Good Song Never Dies". When he and the rest of the gang went out to kill werewolves there's a side of Duke holding back that he didn't want to be like his Dad or even kill in the beginning when he stumble upon Artemis.
When it lead to the gang for Duke it was a betrayal and I think it made Duke did something he regret perhaps from an axe to another material of use ~

Duke tried to get away from the toxic relationship he had with his father, then he befriended werewolf hunting vampires, didn't want to be like his dad, left again and they're telling him he doesn't deserve to live for hating senseless violence. Those jerkasses can go fuck themselves!!!
I feel this is setting up for when Duke finds the vampire cane, he’ll use not only its power to get revenge against Artemis and the “betrayers” but also set it up in a way that Duke’s father and any vampire hunters under his command to fight one another… thus killing two birds with one stone!
I cannot wait until we see how he found the staff thing and see how the other vamps reacted
Just remember everyone, Duke found a powerful staff and was living comfortably as the master of his own castle, after missi killed him he was happy In the underworld and has tons of friends there, is now married to missi and while their relationship isn't perfect they are living a more or less happy life while these jerks are fighting a war
War brings purpose, unity, and prosperity. Running from it does not even guarantee being spared the horrors of war.

War brings death destruction and all kinds of other horrors , while necessary at times it definitely doesn’t bring purpose, unity or prosperity, it does the opposite in fact ( hell ww1 is literally the reason ww2 and the Great Depression occurred )

War is a part of human nature, and it is the most basic form of human conflict resolution, because when conflicting interests arise diplomacy just delays the conflict to a time in which both nations are more prepared to fight.
Just like war isn't always good, neither is peace always a good thing.

I can't help but think about the fact that Duke is a vampire slayer's kid. He clearly grew up to hate pointless violence and fighting. But Duke was exposed to the life and world of vampire slaying at least a little bit. Even if his father didn't give him direct lessons in these things, he would have picked up on a few things just by living in the house of a vampire slayer for years.
So you have a vampire, raised by a vampire slayer that might be about to get into a fight with some fellow vampires. Even if he only remembers maybe a few facts about how to defend against and harm them, I think that would be enough for him to fight his way out. But I can imagine it would be a very upsetting and frustrating experience to realize his father's tactics and knowledge turned out to be what saves him.
This actually makes sense. People you can't count on in a fight, and provide only temporary entertainment value are a luxury few can afford when your a fleeting power on the grand scale.
I like how the title of the video can go both ways. The vamp squad feels betrayed by Duke by not even trying to eliminate the enemy and Duke feels betrayed by the vamp squad because he really thought he’d found people who understood him but it the end it was just the same toxic situation he had with his dad and/or his ex(?)(not sure if they were friends to begin with) human- friends. Not sure if this intentional but if it was then I really like it. It just kinda shows how they both were betrayed by a friend it’s just that they were betrayed in different ways. Nice job as always Daria, can’t wait for episode 5

I didn’t think that the little women and the big guy would be like that, I mean; can’t they just see that as Duke’s preference (without knowing the context or reasoning behind it, cause that’s his business and trauma) to not want to kill monsters? I mean even if they’re vampires/demons, everyone’s got their preferences and they could’ve assigned him a different role like gathering weapons and amo I know Artemis didn’t care for duke all that much (and I can see the old guy breaking open a bottle of champagne to celebrate that duke is leaving 😂) but I would’ve thought that the big guy and the little woman would’ve been saddened or at least try to reason with Artemis about duke
I think its more of a hurt response. Estevan and Jaye are going through a supposed betrayal of their own. Jaye being the hot head she is responding with hurt and malice probably her own way of dealing with hurt. And Estevan is a wall of silence probably because he bottles up emotions and disengages when hes hurt. Ol' wet towel Edmund tho.. yea im sure he dosent give a toss.

The fact that Estevan seems to be the only one who feels bad for Duke says a lot about the type of person he is, poor guy, you can see that he did like Duke.
I like how in the last frame of her face, the girl looks genuinely concerned. Like she knows the consequences and thinks he won't survive on his own.

I hate that from their perspective they see a traitor who wont fight for their cause. Someone cowardly. And that they are angry and upset that their new friend is turning his back on them. But we know better, Duke is just as hurt. and that breaks me cos im sure the crash out after this will be crazy.
I just hold out hope the coven gets back together like i saw in 'Raised by bats' and past hurts are mended.

I just realized some irony, the animatic is about Duke being kicked out of the group but in Heathers the musical, the character's name singing the song is Duke 😭

Poor Duke!! Wanting to find his people and then kicked to the curb because he didn't want to follow on a path, he was supposed to be on as a human. Well as for "die alone," fast-forward he has Missi!!! Keeps him on his toes but a good companion for him!

So if I have everything right so far...
Duke's family were vampire hunters. His father being the most dangerous one of them. His mom died when he was a boy. He hated his father not grieving her death. He got bullied for most of his life and left town to start over. There he found a vampire cult. Artemis bit him, turning him into a vampire. Duke enjoys his time there, made some friends. The cult is looking for a staff (The one Duke was in possession in "The Night" video) They also hunt werewolves and the hunters (Duke's Dad). On the night Duke and a crew went out to kill a werewolf group, Duke saw the vampire crew was no better than his father so he said, "F**k it, I'm out." Now the cult is trying to kill him because of this decision.
Time skip now
Duke is in possession of the staff. He owns a castle and lives by himself. Missy comes in and chase scenes. Missy kills Duke. Then Missy turns into a vampire (because of the staff????) Duke is enjoying his time in Hell having the life of a king. Missy now has the staff and wants to resurrect Duke (for revenge???) Missy is successful, and she then expresses her hatred for him and says "F**k you," and kicks him out of his own castle. Duke is pissed (can't blame the dude) Missy starts going a bit insane. Duke has some fun with a zombie prostitute, and got a zombie std so he can't have sex now. Missy and Duke go to a dance. Duke attempts to get back the staff any chance he gets (fails) Duke tries to poison Missy. Missy catches on. Then they brawl. Duke loses a thumb, Missy loses an eye. After this, the pair decided they're stuck with each other. Yet still trying to kill one another.
And that's all I got so far. I'm wondering now just exactly how Duke came into possession of the staff and why Missy came to the castle to begin with. Hopefully in the future we'll get some answers.
I think its so funny how like in the first ever vampair animation the vibe was like that duke was this old ass powerful vampire from the victorian period but in reality hes like in his literal thirties and just chose to dress goth.
I'd expect this from Walter, and maybe Jaye as she's leading the song. But seeing Estevan silently sliding away from Duke hurt my heart a lot.

You can tell he's never been about killing from the beginning. Human, vampire, werewolf; doesn't matter, he's just been a gentle soul slowly forced in odd ways to harden as he grew up. (I mean as accurately as the narrative of the songs allow x3)

Im curious to see where this story goes. So Duke gets the Sceptor that Artemis and his gang are looking for and has it stolen by the goth girl (forgot her name). Artemis and crew are still alive given the latest song in the timeline shows Duke singing and Artemis glaring at him as he sings about how there is no one left to fill their heads with lie, which seems like a persoanl jab at Artemis...
Im genuinely curious as to where Duke finds the Scepter and how he obtains it.
