Great to see a Series 1 getting some TLC.
Getting to be a rare bird these days.
It sure is!
Proper clutch, looks similar too and old grey Ferguson clutch
How about doing a bit of a Bio Mike? You have clearly traveled and you have done a thing or two. I don't mean anything personal or private, how the Inland Revenue is after you or things like that. You are goood story teller and I think it would be awesome to hear some of your stories.
I have been asked before - it is quite a yarn, as everything I have done was never planned!
@@BritannicaRestorations Thats even better.
@@BritannicaRestorations Well I for one would be interested. From time to time you leave breadcrumbs of a story. I am sure it would also start some interesting conversations in the comments.
That engine will be spic and span. Brightly painted and brought back to original spec so that it lasts another few decades. You’re like a heart surgeon of car engines. 👍🏻🙏🦘
Yes it is coming on, but I realize I need a few more parts from the UK - it is never quite as simple as fitting a new seal!
Greetings from sunny Yorkshire, great to see this Mike as I’ll probably have to tackle this job myself one day but hopefully not too soon on my 1956 86”🤞🏻 I’ll be sure to replace that rear core plug when I do as it’s the only one that’s weeping on mine….typical 🙄😂
Complaining about having to set the tappets in situ Mike! 🤔😉 Did it loads of times back in the 60's and in any case, it was a damn sight easier than a Rover 90.... 😂😂
The exhausts are a nightmare to access!
I doubt I’ll ever have a series 1 but I’m loving this!
Hi Mike so nice to see you working on the series one I’m glad you kept it! 👍🧢🇬🇧
More to come!
Nice one m8 keep em coming I've got a series tub/backend as a trailer not sure what series it is but it look's great unfortunately someone ran over the front with a semi so i was told at least the back lives on
Gibby in OZ
Cool 👍
I had a 1961 pickup landrover in 1993 it was an ex electric company vehicle with a hand throttle to run an inverter underneath to create 240v electric my children at the time called it the engine car as the noise inside was horrendous when driven happy memories all the best donny
I had a 1958 2 litre back in the 70s, changing the timing chain was fun it had 3 keyways in the camshaft sprocket for vernier adjustment, there is a method that you can do if you don't have access to a dial gauge.
Water and minus 10 what could possibly go wrong ⛸! Hoping that the new crank seal is good enough quality to last the test of time after all the work to get in there! Maybe the meeces' left over seeds etc, helped to soak up a bit of the oil. Looking forward to the next one.
I hope so too!
Oh yes paint up the engine. 🍺
That's the plan!
Your videos are very helpful. I wish I could mail you my Defender 2.0 MPi (t16 )engine. It's a daunting overhaul due to the lack of information and support.
Your collection of R380 and Defender videos are very handy.
Thoughts on porting the MPi heads? I am inclined to pass on doing this because of the high risk vs reward - other than removing any obvious casting imperfections and such.
To be honest - I have never seen one! They were only fitted to Italian 90 Defenders.
One or two have made it to Canada, but I think due to parts availability they were replaced with Tdi's
Hey there,
Have plenty of experience and knowledge on these engines. They were fitted to many Disco 1s too that went to Southern European countries. Let me know in case you might need anything.
Kind Regards
@@apostolospappas3405 Thank you I'll keep you in mind. I've saved this post and I may refer back to it. I like the engine but I've not been too crazy about sourcing parts.
why did LR make a 4x2 ? was to to win a tender and cut cost , and how many are made?
