I bought this kit in indigo burst for my son as a Christmas present and I play his drums more than I play my high price kits, it has become my favorite kit to play

That’s because these are professional drums as well.

I'm considering just buying a snare. Sounds well worth the price tag!

    What series is the hardware?

I do believe Tama removed a layer or two of maple and replaced it with lacebark pine for the Exotix appearance. Descriptions still say 100% Maple... but it's less maple than past Superstar Classics, replaced with lacebark pine. Buyer beware.

I was concerned about this fact also. But I can say from experience, that if there is an effect on the sound of the drums from the lacebark pine it’s a positive effect. Because my 7 piece shell pack in dark indigo burst lacebark pine sound incredible. With Evans ec2s batters and an eq3 on the kick. No moon gel or tone rings are needed. They sound great wide open. And the lacebark pine looks amazing. I’m sure that these drums will be sought after in 20 years. As they should be. So if you’re concerned about the lacebark pine effecting the sound, don’t worry they sound fab!

I rock a 5pc in red sparkle & it sounds really good for the price. Especially love the fast sizes of the drums, old school badges are sweet too.

These are amazing and for affordable price. I have sooo much worse kit, but I don't care about drun sounds. I'm not a beginner, I've playes drums for 11 years since I was 1 years old and I owned real drums since I was 3
