Hello, Paul! How would these compare to Scandinavian and Dutch OSVs? Are these also designed for survival in seas as rough as the North Sea? Are the designs as holistic and meticulous? Is the engineering and build-quality as good? Are shipyards in the South good? I thought the best US shipyards were in Washington and New England? How would these compare to naval and coast guard vessels or salvage tugs? Do they operate in as adverse conditions as those? Of course, the open aft decks make them very easy to convert and the massive beams should also provide tremendous seafaring stability? And, finally, what would the fuel consumption and overall costs/day be? Are these really go-anywhere all-weather vessels?
They are all built to class specifications - which would be the same in Europe and U.S. The commercial success of a working vessel is dependent on its reliability and length in service - so it is in the interest of the owner/builder to use the best materials and highest grade of equipment. The Gulf of mexico shipyards uild most f the commercial vessels, and the smaller military and patrol vessels in the U.S. and are of the highest quality.
I’d love to convert an OSV And install a moon pool in a pressurized section to house a mini submarine that could be launched from under the hull of the ship and a great space for divers to enter and exit the water with a recompression chamber close by.
Do you find that these 'donor' boats are surging in popularity, or are people still looking to a shipyard to lay a steel hull and build a yacht from scratch? Is there a time advantage in these? Since things can be made else where and then bolted on while the unnecessary parts are being stripped off, does this make the yacht available more quickly or is it still about 2 years until completion?
We are currently seeing 3-4 of these projects starting each year- and that is certainly a surge from 1 a year, or less 10 years ago. And yes, you can be prepping the hull by stripping out unused systems and tanks while new accommodations are being fabricated in a shed. A yacht support conversion can be done in as little as 12 months, while a full expedition yacht conversion might take up to 18 months depending on the level of finish.
We usually calculate a $10 million base-line (plus cost of commercial ship) for a conversion, but there are many variables based upon mission and owner specs.
I enjoy watching your videos.
Thanks Paul, informative as usual. Thank you.
Супер люкс вариант!
Слежу за Вашим творчеством!
Добра и процветания!
A conversion to a yacht support vessel would even be easier. Great vid. Thanks.
We agree!
Love what you are doing.
Thanks.

Excellent.
Would you be able to get natural light in the gym area?
These yachts are amazing Bottom line give me a ballpark number how much time does it take to convert this yacht and what’s the price???
About $5 mill to buy the commercial vessel and $10-15m for a basic conversion.
I would love to see The Denison family to do the conversion. They do amazing interior work

So what would you expect to pay for used OSV for conversion?
3 mill@
Nice...!!!!!.
Why not just use steel beams and glass like huff haus?
What are your thoughts on converting a Fast Ferry or ROPAX Ferry to a yacht? feasible? maybe something (not so extravagant tho) like the FC Swath 75??
I've looked at that a few times and yes, it appears to be feasible.
What is the purpose of a liquid mud tank?
The offshore drills use mud.
😱🥰❤
It’s pronounced fu-shawn. Louisiana names can be tricky lol
Haha. Hard for me to get that accent right.
Try Tchoupitoulas
Lol
How much will it take to convert it to that yacht in total?
