Fellow Minnesotan here. Sakatah was our first trip with our new class C in 2015. Didn't even know about the coffee shop off the bike trail. But an fyi that the main bike trail that runs through the park is something special. I believe it's the "Singing Hills Trail" that runs between Faribault and Mankato. Beautiful scenery. Lake Sakatah is also a nice Lake where Inowned a seasonal for a couple years.
Back to the camping at the state park. It was our first trip out. Same opening May weekend in 2015. Rain and sleet all weekend. Water and bathrooms weren't open yet. And our then 8yr old daughter was terrified to use our motorhome toilet 😄 (like you I always carry a partial fresh tank) so we made trips with her to the vault toilet throughout the weekend.
And even with all the drama, bad weather, unexpected lack of amenities available in the park.....I will never forget that trip and cherished every minute of it! 😄
Hello neighbor and thanks for watching! While we don't repeat state parks often, I would like to come back and explore that bike trail more, looks awesome. Your first trip sounds like quite the adventure, and one that created a lasting memory. Good times!
I was surprised to see a few people in the park already. There are a few campgrounds up north that are starting to open. Another few weeks and I think everything should be open. Have you seen the forestry campgrounds have also gone cashless. You now have to pay through the Yodel App. No reservations, first come first serve. I asked how we are supposed to pay when there's no cell service. They said they don't have a plan for that yet. They put the horse before the cart on this new cashless system. I enjoy being able to check out these parks through your channel.

Lake Sakatah SP looks like a campground we would like. I know the sites aren't huge, but we aren't a big rig. May 5th seems lake to open up though, but I guess it could definitely still freeze. Love the coffee shop. So cool. Love that it's close enough to bike to. That's how we set up our clam. We have the same firepit. We love it too. Too bad the weather was only good for the one day. We live on a farm site. The Grove is all the trees 🌳 around us.
