Having played Fallout since the first one back in late 90's, I'd say this show is pretty good. It managed to capture the spirit of the franchise with a brand new story.
I'd say the same thing about The Last of Us adaptation except for the brand new story part. I don't know if that makes Fallout better but it makes it different.

It would be nice if reactors would actually watch what they're supposed to be reacting to.

I think if you're going to pose questions and talk to the person beside you, maybe it's best to pause first. You were clearly missing obvious details due to not paying attention. "Is this the real outside?" threw me off a bit.
Yes, please pause, then ask your question. Otherwise you'll miss some important dialogue. The show answers many questions even in the first episode and leaves viewers to connect the dots if they are paying attention. Also, there is no need to look at the person sitting beside you when you talk to them. They can hear you just fine.
I didn't want to say anything because the channel is clearly relatively popular so I assumed people liked the dynamic, but I think this might not be the norm. I think Trixy was asking so many questions because she expected the other girl to have all the answers due to her familiarity with the games, and decided to rely on that instead of paying attention. Which led to the other girl also missing out on a lot of important details in the episode by trying to listen to Trixy's questions. Unfortunately, the other girl's knowledge of the Fallout setting seems to correlate with whatever you learn in the first 10 hours of playing Fallout 4 minus the introductory "War Never Changes" cinematic which she seems to have skipped or forgotten when she played the game. Which is not much and barely applicable to the show.
This show takes place about 9 years after Fallout 4.

Yes a nuclear explosion can kill you at a great distance. Either at the time of the explosion or after due to radiation.
There is actually an atomic weapon called a neutron bomb. It kills organic organisms like people but doesn't damage buildings or the landscape. I'm not sure what it will do to plants.

I'm not an expert, but as I understand it a neutron bomb would kill all living things in a certain radius. The neutrons shoot through the cells of everything like subatomic cannonballs, tearing up all living cells.

My question in episode 1 was why Lucy didn't start looting everything of value when she got out. That is what I did when first played Fallout 3.

The Enclave is a secret shadowy element of the US government and military, formed by the pre war corporations (they are very much an evil organization). The Brotherhood of Steel was created post war by US military mutineers with the core purpose of procuring, persevering, and safeguarding advanced technology so it cannot be used for horrible means ever again. The Brotherhood of Steel are not evil, but they can be real jerks while committing their mission to procure and safeguard advanced technology. They can also combat or take out evil organizations that possess advanced technology (such as the Enclave).
Lucy is the character when you first play fallout.
We can all see it in her face.. 6:23 "Shut up Trixy stop asking me questions, that will spoil the surprises that are coming your way" AARRrrgghhh!!

They don't have to kill the dog, it's just there so they know how the guy's dog looks like, and if they see the dog, the guy can't be far away.

The nuclear bombs in Fallout are smaller in yield than what we have in reality. Also, the nuclear bombs in Fallout are very dirty (lots of radiation).
As far as the families in the vaults, in the setting of this show, they've been in the vault for 219 years with periodic exchanges of people from other vaults for genetic diversity. After 219 years stuck in the same vault and even with trading people every few years from the other two vaults, lots of the people are going to be some level of "cousin" relations.
Raiders are the descendants of the people who didn't get to vaults and who have survived by any/all means necessary on the surface since the bomb drops. The vaults have massive blast doors keeping them protecting them from anything on the surface.
My theory is that the Raiders are the descendants of former Vault dwellers who had left their vaults in search of food (think of the original inhabitants of Vault 111). But the people who didn't get into the vaults in 2077 were either killed, or the survivors all became 200 yo Ghouls like Cooper Howard. There is a holotape in FO4 which explains that one Raider faction are former Minute Men. I think they originally came from a vault in order to protect themselves from all the radiation still on the ground and water.
@@x_trio_3_po333 We know from Fallout lore that lots of people survived outside the vaults who didn't become ghouls. Shady Sands was indeed founded by the residents of Vault 15, but that was an exception to the norm. Most settlers, raiders and just general denizens of the wasteland are descendants of survivors of the Great War. Probably a lot of them that lived farther from the big cities that were the targets, I would imagine.
Trixy Blue will be happy to learn that she can play her main character as "Blue" in FO4. In that game she can choose any name she wants. However, if she chooses to travel with a certain Companion, that companion will always call her "Blue" no matter what name she initially chose. Its because of the main character's blue jumpsuit. And the nickname stays even when you change your clothes to a different color.

The main narration in all the games is "War. War never changes". That line isn't said until the final episode here.
Even after a nuclear apocalypse, humans still wage war including using nukes.
This was like watching something with a non-nerd girlfriend. LOL. "Why is this", "What happened" 🤣
Just want to mention that the nukes of the Fallout universe seem to work differently than the nukes of the real world, perhaps given their significantly more advanced nuclear science, so it's entirely possible their nukes actually work the way we saw in the first few minutes.
Ok, a few things:
1) The characters of the show and the story of the show are new and original. The story is set 9 years after Fallout 4 (the last game in the timeline), and almost two centuries after Fallout 76 (the earliest game in the timeline).
2) This fits *PERFECTLY* with Fallout, because every new game is set in a different year, it's usually in a different area of the former US, has a new protagonist, a new story, new enemies and (in 99% of cases) new NPCs.
So no, nobody is upset that it's a new story. If anything, we kind of expected it.
3) The setting is reproduced *PERFECTLY,* however. The factions, the Vaults, the vibe, down to the items and the weapons.
4) Vaults are all part of the same project, but have radical differences among them. That's why Vault 33 is so unlike Vault 76, which you've seen in a game.
5) Vaults aren't all connected together. From what we can tell in this episode, Vaults 31, 32 and 33 are connected, although they have sporadic contact with each other. Vault 76 and all the others, however, are isolated.
6) There are 122 _official_ Vaults in the US. There might be some more unofficial ones. The lower numbers seem to be all around California and Nevada, while the higher numbers are on the East Coast.
7) There are several factions in the games. Some of them are more orderly and some more savage, but it's going to be hard to find an entirely good faction. Nobody's clean in the Wasteland.
However, we can safely say that several kinds of raiders are downright evil.
8) The Brotherhood of Steel is a faction existing in most games, and it's derived from the remnants of the U.S.Army. As you can tell by the lesson in class, they go around hoarding "relics" (pre-war technology).
9) The Enclave is another faction, and this one is derived from the remnants of the U.S. government.
Yes. They all have numbers, but they also all have the same number, Trixy. They wear the number of their specific Vault on their jumpsuits, so almost like Squid Game but also not quite. Lucy is from Vault 33 and the Raiders came pretending to be from Vault 32.

NON-SPOILER BACKGROUND: It is an alternate-timeline Easth with nuclear war starting in the 2070s and then 239 years later. The style of the show comes from 1950's (NOT 1980s) America with music taken from what was acceptable before that horrible Rock and Roll music (LOL). The styles of cars, the pastel colors, houses and even the clothing are from that time. This was also the time where Westerns were the most popular in the US. The 1950s on our world was the time of "The Cold War" with the then Soviet Union and the American paranoia of communism and nuclear war. In theirs, technology advanced faster, the Soviet Union never collapsed, and far more horrible Resource Wars plagued the planet. The "Europeans" (not necessarily the EU) invaded the Middle East, China tried to invade Alaska, and the US annexed Canada and Mexico before the nuclear war.

Trixy, don't know if you've ever played Skyrim, but if you have (and you enjoyed it) then you might like Fallout 4 as well. They are both produced by Betheasda Games Studios and have nearly identical control systems and visuals. Plus if you choose to Mod the game (using Nexus for PC or in game mods for console) you can improve your experiences.
You will first see the flash and instantaneously the high intensity gamma radiation is released and this travels at the speed of light, so you need to be in some shelter to protect yourself against the initial radiation release. Sound travels a 5 seconds per mile, so No sound at the time at the flash. The pressure wave also at the speed of sound as well. The atomic explosions depicted look like ground bursts and those throw up a lot of radioactive dust which is called "fall out". To maximize damage the atomic explosions should be "air bursts." Hydrogen bomb explosions are larger.

The 1st two games are really cool
The games start in different ways. I haven't played through 1 or 2, so I can't say too much about them, but once Bethesda took over the franchise you have a scenario where your character starts out as a vault resident and is forced out of the vault in search of your father, similar to Lucy but under very different circumstances. Fallout New Vegas has the character be a normal wastelander who has never been in a vault. Fallout 4 has you as a pre-war couple with an infant child who get the last spot in Vault 111 right before the bombs go off, then you are cryogenically frozen only to wake up about 200 years later. The TV show doesn't include anything from the plots of those games, but it probably contains references and maybe even appearances of characters mentioned in those games, especially those characters who are instrumental in the founding of major factions or the creation of important things within the universe.
The tone of the games is sort of a goofy horror survival vibe. There's a lot of dark humor, gratuitous gore, and subsistence living that you encounter as you explore the game world, and the storylines are often about purification of irradiated resources like water or nasty enemies who do cruel things and the character must stop them. The vaults are almost all horrific experiments by Vault-Tec that show little regard for human life, where they infect people with viruses, pipe in hallucinogenic gasses, or put drug addicts into the vault and have them go without drugs for a long time then open a secret compartment with drugs in it and see what happens, among other experiments. My favorite is Vault 69, where they put one man with 1000 women. It also has a strong drug aspect to it, with lots of types of pharmaceutical enhancements and the possibility of addiction.
Fallout 1, the water chip in your vault breaks and you have to find some way to fix or replace it before everyone in the vault is killed, if you've watched further than you already know how they reference this ;)

I was just going by what I've seen from these videos, but I was also viewing references to the events of the games as something else entirely. I would expect some of that, as they are part of the lore history.
i played all main series fallout and i had no clue this show existed ether until a few hours before release.
To me this show is like a Fallout game has come to life. The only thing missing is being able to control the character, otherwise it's just like the games.

All fallout games have different plot lines, stories, and characters, and take place at different times throughout the 200+years post apocalypse. There is no concrete protagonist, It’s an RPG so your character you create, male or female, are the protagonist or antagonist depending on how you wanna play. A big part of the game are the choices you make as it always affects the outcome of the ending. There are also multiple factions like the Brotherhood of steel (which are the reminants of the US military) and the Enclave (what the US government evolved or devolved into depending on how you see it) plus many more that you can either join or try to help other factions destroy as they are always warring with each other for control of the wasteland. They also play a big part in the direction of the story during the games depending on who you choose. The retrofuturistic design in Fallout reflects an alternate reality where society never progressed past the 1950s aesthetically and somewhat technologically But instead developed a way to harness atomic energy so while some of their tech advanced to futuristic proportions (like the robots) other tech (like microprocessors and transistors) never developed. That’s why some of their tech is so clunky and big. That being said in the Fallout universe a massive war over diminishing resources lead to nuclear annihilation across the planet by the year 2077, the vaults are giant underground fallout shelters scattered all across the US designed to sustain and preserve a controlled population of people so that one day they may return to the surface and re-establish a society to help restore America to its former state however the vault dwellers aren’t the only ones who managed to survive centuries of radiation.
Fallout TV show takes place after every Fallout game, of course there night be characters, objects or places from the games but story will be original for the show.

They made a great choice in adapting the game perfectly but also making a story completely independent of the previous material.

The tv series is a new standalone story set in the Fallout universe, rather than adapting any one specific game in the series. That way you can get introduced to the franchise and still not get anything spoiled for any of the games… or come in from playing the games and still have a fresh story in the series to explore.

The Fallout games were inspired by the 1975 sci-fi film "A Boy and His Dog". A post-apocalyptic film which takes place in 2024. (two years after the events of another sci-fi film called "Soylent Green" (1973) which takes place in 2022, Though the latter is not connected to the former, or to the Fallout franchise).

Playing in an open world for the first time is a revelation. For me that was Fallout 3. The game isn't perfect and is now really outdated but it will always have a special place in my heart.

The tv series is set about fifteen years after Fallout 4, so is after all of the games that have been produced.
The thumb thing is nonsense but comes up later in the series: a nuclear bomb creates three deadly effects: blast wave, thermal and radioactive fallout. Of these, thermal flash goes the furthest in the first hour or so: thermal impacts from vaporising people to blasting fires causing third degree burns out to a distance of between 4-25 km depending on the size of the explosion. The deadly blast wave zone is less than half of that while fallout zone is less than 2km from the initial explosion until the wind kicks up and the explosion fireball disperses and fallout drops out. When a ground blast occurs (as in the tv series), far more fallout is created than from an air burst. Even worse, if a jacket of Cobalt 59 is used, the radioactivity is greatly increased and remains deadly for up to 110 years after the bombing.

It takes place 9 years after Fallout 4 which also takes place after New Vegas. New Vegas takes place 6 years before 4. The show is the furthest along in the timeline of the entire game series.

Vault-tec built 122 vaults around the country and sold spaces in them. While they came across as patriotic, darker things were brewing behind the scenes.
The series starts on the west coast in California, where the N.C.R. or New California Republic was formed after the bombs (several years after) while Fallout 4 takes place in Massachusetts. I'm not sure about timeline, but I'm guessing the show takes place 6 or 8 years before the fourth game.

The thumb thing is totally made up. But yes, the pressure wave from a nuclear explosion is a big part of what actually causes damage outside of the initial fireball. Everything inside it including oxygen/Air, burns, which creates a different phenomenon, there are actually 2 waves, the initial shock going out, and also a wave coming back as air returns to fill the space that was voided. Kyle Hill has some incredible vids on this sort of thing you should check out! Cheers!

Nuclear war doesn't destroy everything, just parts of cities which would be targeted, so many would survive outside.
Just so you know Trixy, Fallout isn't just one game; there are to my knowledge 6 games. But that doesn't mean there aren't more out there somewhere. I have only played 3 of them myself. Fallot 3, Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas. For gameplay and overall player freedom I give Fallout 4 the lead. But I find Fallout 3 has the best scenario involving living in a Vault leading to surface exploration. I really do wish there would be a new Fallout game with more time spent in a Vault, even if it comes in the form of playable flashbacks. The all of three minutes you get in Fallout 4 is just not really very immersive. but that;s just me. I'm sure others might say New Vegas is the best.

Fallout and Skyrim are both fantastic games. Just avoid fallout 76.

The story follows Fallout 3. The only difference is you play as the cowboy and he’s not a ghoul. The ghoul is a separate character in the game and the final boss. They decided to change that aspect of the game in the TV show for some reason, probably so the main character is female. There’s no character selection in the game. You always play as the cowboy. There’s also no dogs in the game only cats so that is something they changed too. Other than that it basically follows the same plot and script word for word.
