Hi everyone!
In this demonstration I am painting rays of sun shining through the stormy skies. It is a great project to attempt if you are a beginner to intermediate watercolorist. Please do not feel the pressure to paint the sky in the same pattern or color. It is a fun painting to do where you can experiment with colors, shapes and values. The only thing is important to remember is the difficulties of wet-on-wet technique. Please pay attention to the wetness of the paper and the thickness of the paint. Sky is one of my favourite subjects to paint due to the freedom it offers and, hopefully, with time and practice, it will be yours as well.
In this demonstration I am using:
Paper: 300GSM 100% Cotton Saunders Waterford
Brushes:
• 20mm flat synthetic,
• ¾ inch Black Velvet Oval
• 10mm Dainayw Squirrel Mop
• #12 Perla
• #1 Black Velvet Script
Paints: Winsor Newton, Daniel Smith and Holbein
Please enjoy!

Thanks 😊!
such a beauty!
Thanks 😊
Awesome and magical! Watching you paint was like watching a dancer. When you were moping up the color in the sky to let the light shine through, try using a small bake brush. They are great for soaking up color from an area leaving you with just the white of the paper.
Thank you so much for the tip!

Beautiful sky , Love it !!!! What colors you used ? Thanks
Hi Julia, Cool mix: Indigo, Ultramarine and Cobalt Blue (and a touch of Alizarin to make purple). Warm mix: Golden Ochre, B.Sienna and Q.Gold (and a touch of Neutral Tint). At 2:16 adding a bit of cerulean to my Cool mix. 6:00 Cobalt+raw.sienna to make silvery mix 6:08 adding a bit of b.sienna to get it darker. Hope this helps 😊
Excellent 👏🏻 Nice palette, brand?
