What is 'scrum of scrums' and why is it effective?

Welcome to part 49 of our #scrummaster #interviewquestions series where John McFadyen answers common questions asked of scrum masters and #agilecoaches in interviews and client engagements.
The concept of a #scrum of scrums stems back from the late 1990s where teams experimented with a series of #dailyscrum to help escalate insight in ever increasing circles.
The thinking was that a problem could be escalated fairly rapidly throughout the organization if it was identified in the earliest #dailyscrum in the day and in theory, it could be escalated to #executive or #agileleadership level within hours.
In this short video, John McFadyen explains what a scrum of scrums is and provides some insights into why this practice has died in #agile environments. John also provides some insights into what #agile practitioners have chosen to invest in as an alternative to a scrum of scrums.
