Didn't expect it to be so straightforward. The principles of Kanban and Agile have been around for decades, originating in Japanese manufacturing. It's honestly mind blowing that 'Agile' is sometimes considered this new revolutionary way of delivering a project when it's derived from Lean methodology. Only difference is Agile caters to streamlining a software development process rather than a manufacturing process. JIRA just visualizes a methodology and practice that has existed since Toyota first implemented these concepts in the 40's. Surprised no one thought of this before.
This is the best video I found on Kanban. I have worked in scrum team and was looking to learn what is Kanban. I went through lot of videos with similar information but this video explained it the best. Thank you
1:43 (ish) "It's on the team to make kanban work for you" i.e. it's not a magical lantern you rub to make magical things happen. It's a tool that can be used effectively by certain-minded people. Good stuff right there.
Studied in Quality Control the concept of kanbans and did not understand it fully , looked to youtube and did not find any better explanation than this video. Thank you
Ohh my god...Amazing, useful video...Very well presented 👍... What I understood about kanban from this video 1.Kanban is a really simple and useful system. But 2.No one in this world is capable of explaining it properly. Whenever they try to describe it they make it unnecessarily complex (exact opposite of the intent of kanban system 😂) 3.I looked about kanban in Google, Google images, other youtube videos etc...But the part that confused the most is about the words such as backlogs, WIP, etc...But after watching this video I am very clear about them and their purpose seems to be so revolutionary and its unbelievable usefulness... 4.Kanban is not just about manufacturing or production. It can be used in our daily life also.It increases productivity so effortlessly. 🎉 Kudos to the team ...Great work... 🎉❤️👍
A very simple so easy to understand that you immediately relate it to tasks that you have initiated and completed and you didnt realise you did implement Kanban. Ofcourse the scale of this will differ from task to task. Thank you Max
I learned this technique in my critical thinking course. We call it Post-It . We learnt it to categorize ideas after a brainstorming session. I didn't know there was a digital version of this technique.
Max, I am a fan! I’m totally brand new & I feel I’ve got the basic framework of Kanban. You have such an easy manner. I live the filming. Looking forward to seeing more! Wow. Onward & upward with FLOW!!
This really helped me grasp Kanban and the other videos are fantastic. I realize Agile is complex but this video and the other videos break it out into simple concepts to get our teams moving on their journey.
Just started using Trello and your video series was a great refresher for understanding Kanban. I'd read about it before, but never put it into action. Off to a running start now. Thanks!
just to clarify lead time is not when you start working on a card to done. It is when the ticket arrives in your backlog to done... in Jira its the control chart and by choosing the right states you can either get lead time or cycle time....
all the best words re content and how things explained. The shaking camera and running circles around the office to make it more "live" is a bit questionable though.
Very good video thank you for that! On small comment, at the end of the video, "lead time" is mentioned to describe the time from taking the work till delivering it to the customer. For me, it is more "cycle time". Lead time would be more the time from customer request to the time where the customer get what he requested.
I loved this video. I use Kanban but it is good to re-think the basics sometimes May I ask a question... On your physical - office space boards, what type of sticky notes do you use? They look different to most Post It notes I've seen.
Love the video. Very clear and well-paced. I do think you should adjust or add onto the concept of lead time and compare and contrast it to cycle time. Maybe that's in the future installments.
How is prioritization conducted in Kanban? Does it use similar techniques to Scrum i.e. Planning Poker, MOSCOW, numbering based on team-based perspectives?
@@Atlassian Thanks for your response. My question was more general to understand what prioritization techniques are used for Kanban, and if they are the same as Scrum or different.
If you want to skip the fluffy bla bla bla intro, go directly to 1:52 for an overview of the Kanban concept and 3:15 for the beginning of the more detailed run-through.
Honestly, I watched a lot of videos and this is the best and most classy explanation of Kanban. You did really well! Thank you.
This! Excellent explanation of a concept I’d never heard of one hour ago. It may be the solution to my organization woes
my man knows his stuff!

This is a golden textbook example of how an educational video in general and on Kanban specifically, should be made. Nice work! :)

all the best words re content and how things explained. The shaking camera and running circles around the office to make it more "live" is a bit questionable though.
Thank you for simplifying this
Thanks for the detailed explanation !! Appreciated !!
Great video !clear and concise
This video is very self explanatory. Very straight to the point and easy to understand. Please can you do another video on Scrum?
why is the camera so shaky all the time?
It's a real shame. I had to abort watching due to minor motion sickness. Ruins an otherwise great video.

May I ask a question... On your physical - office space boards, what type of sticky notes do you use? They look different to most Post It notes I've seen.
I wish I had watched this video several months ago when I first started to use Trello
For accessibility, can we have a reduce motion button on this video?

Looks like a building I have been in on 10th Ave in San Diego.

By default Kanban boards sort by Rank. You can learn more about Ranking here: support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/enable-ranking/
@@Atlassian Thanks for your response. My question was more general to understand what prioritization techniques are used for Kanban, and if they are the same as Scrum or different.
Is kanban a job title or what job titles mostly use kanban ?
All in all, great work.
Only negative, is the camera man. So so shaky...was it an earthquake? :DDDDD xD
Microsoft Teams with Power automate works very well.
Thanks for the great video. Just a small correction for it: “看板” is a Chinese word. " カンバン" is the Japanese word for Kanban.
Also he said it means visual signal, but it's look and board, so I think a simple "sign board" or "card board" is a better translation...
Brillient explanation :)
If you want to skip the fluffy bla bla bla intro, go directly to 1:52 for an overview of the Kanban concept and 3:15 for the beginning of the more detailed run-through.
Ok that's just a team to-do list in another more visual format.
