#EugeValovirta #EVH5150III #MarshallJCM2000
Great video as always man!! Thanks for the advice on the AMP1. I love it!
Thanks man! Glad to hear that!
Love your channel I get excited every time you post a new video
Glad to hear! Thanks!
I own an EVH 5150iii 50w 6L6 version, and I swear to God it's the best distortion I've ever had and heard with my EMG pick ups.
Glad to hear!
Awesome video! They do sound very close for sure when using the SD-1. Without the SD-1 I could notice the Marshall has that midrange "honk" that nobody else can do but Marshall. I really prefer the tone from this EL34 version of the EVH over the 6L6, it's a great sounding amp. Have a great weekend coming up Euge, and thanks for the video 🤘🤘
Thanks William! I agree with you man. Likewise! 🙏
awesome review, just found your channel. gotta go watch all your videos now...
Thanks! Glad to hear that!
They both sound AMAZING!
They do indeed.
Great comparison Euge. TSL is one of my favorite amps. That evh sounds great too 👍
Thanks!
They’re both great amps indeed.
This is the best channel to help me with my next purchase! Wish I would have kept my dsl now that so many power soaks are available. Always been a sucker for marshall and the defaced rebell ripps! Thanks🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Glad to hear man! Thanks!
You make the best demos, great comparison. Seems like the only reason to choose the EVH over the TSL is the midi capability and the size, and perhaps the piece of mind of having a newer amp. Both great choices.
Thanks man! Indeed 👌
Great thanks for the comparison. They sound so close. I can hear the difference in the mids you noticed, which makes the evh sounds like a bit thinner or cleaner, more modern a bit maybe. The distortion grain/texture is very similar to my ears.
Thanks! You’re welcome! Indeed.
Dude you seem like a great guy to have a jam and a beer with! Keep going you’re a very likable character mate! Cheers
Thanks man!
I love the super marshall sound of the evh, might just get one.
You didn't set aflame only the paint, but the bear inside it! Man, that thing growls!
Indeed! 🔥💪
Very cool, thanks! I had to go with the 5150 but the marshal is on the list.
Thanks!
Bro, you get killer sounds out of these amps, thanks for that !!!! the only thing i ca ask for is "how much resonance you dial for the Evh". Otherwise never heard a better guitar sound out of these amps !!!!
Thanks! It depends what kind of tone I’m looking for, what guitar I’m using, the cab / speakers. I don’t really pay attention where the knobs are, only the sound. So the short answer is: I have no idea where the resonance knob was on this one 😎.
Euge -that Tokia looks great now and sounds pretty good too!
Indeed! Thanks!
Hellyeah it does 🤟🏽
The EVH is a fantastic amplifier of course but I'm a sucker for Marshalls always have been. Great video and playing as always my friend. 👍🤘
I’m with you on that man 😎. Thanks!
Euge, you always do the best comparison videos. I think both these amps sound so close to each other. I was wondering, could you use an EQ pedal on the EVH to boost that exact upper-mid frequency to make it match the Marshall better? O_o
Thanks! Sure! I mean Marshall has that ”sand” in there which isn’t easy to replicate but you could get really close if not the same.
@@EugeValovirta230V That's what I was thinking. Marshall is the king, but those EVH amps are impressive.
Another great one Euge. I think every damn amp company would love to have you. You could make a Crate sound epic. 🤘🏻😎
Thanks Hulk! 😎
With a bit of patience that shouldn’t be a problem 😊.
@@EugeValovirta230V absolutely sir.
@@EugeValovirta230V Euge I’m curious. I’m stoked about my tone. Could I email you a clip of me just chugging around on it and get some feedback???
Sure. But don’t use any amps but just with the guitar so I can hear your sound. If it sounds good that way it’ll sound good no matter the gear.
@@EugeValovirta230V you mean the guitar straight unplugged??
I think this is a perfect example of the fact that the cabinet/speaker sound affects one's tone more than the amp head, and that everyone should buy the Bogren Digital impulse response packs!
Yeah cab / speaker / IR plays a big part on the overall sound. More than many people realise.
Or use real speakers!
Both sound really good! Personally I prefer the EVH. Great playing Euge! 😎💪
They do indeed! Thanks!
Do you think the knobs are cheap on the the evh ?
If those doesn’t affect the tone of the amp who cares 😁
You just got mentioned on Peter Thorn's channel! Painful name but a great person and talent. You Swedish dude's rule!!! Your going straight to the top man.🤘💪🎸
Yeah I heard about that! Really cool! I’m a long time subscriber of Pete’s channel and he is awesome. I’m actually Finnish but close enough 😁. Thanks man!
@@EugeValovirta230V Nice! Yeah, I watch Pete sometimes too. He's great. ( Funny, OP called you a Swedish dude! )
😁
I would love to see a demo for the Marshall Vintage Modern. You'll probably make it ROAR! It's definitely one of their last best amp. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Yeah I’d like to try that too so as soon as I get my hands on one I’ll do a video 👌😎.
Great tone from that axe. The harmonics really jump out. A fitting tribute to Zakk’s Rebel and the wonder it brought us.
Yeah! Thanks!
Thanks man!
Sounds great bro!!!!
Thanks C!
You are wellcome E!!!!
an Incredible set up.
😎🙏🎼🎸
Awesome … the best sound I always craved hearing it….
Thanks!
both sound amazing and are quite similar, evh just sounds a little little bit more modern to me and if i had to choose one i would go for the evh.
They do! That is also a very good choise 😎.
I own an 81 JCM 800 with with a V2 Mod and an EVH 50 watt EL34 and I can speak from experience, they’re VERY similar! Almost identical… so identical, if I hid the EVH behind the Marshall, the average ear would not hear the difference. Remarkable little amp!
Yeah! 🤟💪
So close I couldn't pick, but ofc, as usual, both sound great ;-)
Thanks!
Interesting how close they come with sound, i'm looking forward to buy one of these heads or i will go nuts and buy 'em all 🤣
Keep up the good work Euge 💪🤟🍺
Thanks!
Euge, make sure to get yourself a new black SD-1 Anniversary. You deserve it!
Already on it’s way 😎. Thanks!
@@EugeValovirta230V * High Five *
👋😊
I actually preferred the EVH myself lol. Nice shootout!
Thanks! Like I said; it’s all about personal preferences 😎
I should have done more research. I hope no one was offended. Either way this is a kick ass channel!!!🇫🇮🤘💪🎸
No worries man! 😁. Finland was part of Sweden a long time ago and Swedish is our second official language so all good man 🙏😎. Thanks!
Cool Intro Riffage!
Thanks!
@@EugeValovirta230V You rock, Euge. I'm a big Marshall fan too and my main amp is a hand-wired Mojotone 18 watt TMB head boosted with an SD-1. It's so immediate and crushing nothing really compares to it. Cheers!
Oh thanks man! Glad to hear! Cool! 💪
Good video! Can you do a comparison between the new Soldano and the JCM800 and TSL?
Thanks! If I get my hands on one then for sure! They’re a bit rare here in Europe so let’s see what happens. MusiX has had a few of those and they’ve been sold immediately.
Freaking LOVE this guys channel…mainly for the playing, but the gear too. Euge, what tuning are you using on that les Paul…E flat? Im at work and cant play along to compare. That tuning just sounds perfect.
Thanks man!
Don’t have guitar close to me atm but sounds like Eb. Can’t remember anymore what tuning I had on this video 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V
Thanks for the reply Euge, you do end up saying the tuning is standard Csharp.
i have always been a Marshall guy at heart, and I know exactly what you mean by that Marshall”kerrang”… no other amp can do it,with the acception of my Splawn Nitros.Ive used a ton of boosts in the past, but can’t remember ever using a boss sd-1. I think ill grab one, do you just use the regular pedal,or does it have mods(anologman,etc..)
Thanks again!
Btw-if you have never played a Splawn, and love that Marshall sound, you have to try one, they are unbelievable.
Ok! 😎
Stock SD-1. I’ve tried several modded ones but I prefer bone stock.
Great Video! What are you running the resonance setting on the EVH at?
I think it was on 2 o’clock but I mention that on the video so the correct info is there 😎.
I have had my TSL since 2001... I love that f4&-€# beast!
👌💪
nice to see the burnt guitar in action. Ended up looking like a watercolor effect
Yeah! But the most important thing is that it sounds more open & better now 👌.
Another good video !
What cab and speaker is your ir emulating ? Is that whats in your real cab, what cab is that also, EV speakers ?
Thanks!
It’s an oversized Mesa w/ V30s mic’d with three different mics into a high quality mic preamp 👌.
The cab I have in my studio is a Fryette FatBottom w/ Eminence P50E speakers. Awesome cab also and one of my favourites along with the Mesa and a few others.
Yea, i want a the mesa, i think they have their own v30s, and you cant buy them on their own. I might have to sell some gear to get the whole cabinet...lol.
Thanks for the videos, great job !
Ill check out your IR
😎👌
I am with you: I love my TSL100.
🤟💪
Marshall TSL comments in early 2000s - Terrible piece of junk
EVH 5150iii comments - Incredible machine
😁
Ufff ese primer minuto... me encantan los armónicos, los pitos 🔥
Killer riff as always, may I make one small suggestion. Use a small torch to lightly burn the maple on the top to really bring out the grain. It would look awesome with the sanding you have done.
Thanks!
That’s actually a great idea! I’ll try it🔥.
Euge, what do you think about other Japanese brands (other than Tokai) which were making lawsuit-era Les Paul copies? Asking, because you inspired me to buy an Orville Les Paul Custom from 1990 and Burny Les Paul Custom from 1987! I was a V and RR guy, now I’m a 100% Les Paul guy thanks to watching to your videos :)
My friend had a Burny back in the day and it was really good. I haven’t tried Orville guitars. Oh cool man! Glad to hear!
I have a 1982 Hondo Les Paul Custom copy. It has been a great guitar since I got it used from a pawn shop in 1989.
Although I have the TSL, I liked the EVH a tad bit more in this comparison.
Both are fantastic amps indeed 💪.
I know these are on loan but there is a simple mod for the Evh el34 50 that brings those upper mids to the blue channel. It’s not night and day like some might profess, but it’s definitely gonna bring more upper mids and really “Marshall” it up!
Actually here’s my 5153 el34 50 watt blue channel . Even boosted with an sd1!
app.box.com/s/e4ooyowhgzx1rz6mcrg1pahovtz51rr7
Cool tip! Thanks man!
Believe it’s called the c137 “mod”. It’s a cap and just need to clip one leg . A couple vids out there showing the difference
Hey Euge, between the TSL and the JCM 2000, which one do you prefer? Also "how" better is one from the other? Thank you brother and Rock On!
Hey, TSL is a JCM2000 so…😎🤟.
@@EugeValovirta230V My apologies. I meant which one do you like better between the DSL and the TSL. Thank you brother and Rock On!
😊👌. They’re pretty similar but TSL has an awesome / better clean channel IMO so that’s one of the reasons I have TSL and not DSL 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V Thank You Euge!
straight out of the box i think i prefer the evh. Channel 3 has that evh/peavey compression that makes you kinda not even need a boost pedal sometimes. If you mess with the resonance knob you can get a really tight amp out of that evh. channel 2 definitely needs a boost tough. 3. maybe not. For thrashmetal i think these evh's serve well. if you want that short tight and dry tone kinda.
🤟
Another awesome video!
I wonder if that el34 EVH can be dialled in to sound like your Plexi too?
Thanks! Kinda but no other amp really does Plexi except Plexi ’cos it’s so unique; no master volume, all controls are basically volume, gain & tone controls at the same time etc.
i have the tsl is a awesome amp my friend
It is indeed.
IS THAT A CUSTOMIZED TOKAI GUITAR? IS THERE FOR SALE SOMEWHERE? A LINK ? THANKS
I customized it myself so this is the only one that exists.
In my experience, the TSL only comes alive if you crank it. But that's a problem when you live in an apartment and don't want to get evicted. At bedroom level volumes this amp sounds below average, really unimpressive. Even when boosted I had problems getting decent sounds out of it, using the standard slanted Marshall cab and a mid-range Jackson loaded with Seymour Duncans. A good attenuator might be the answer, or access to a rehearsal room where volume levels aren't a concern. I still own the head, but hardly ever use it. But this is a good video and a nice demo of TSL's capabilities when unhindered by circumstances.
Yeah that’s the case with tube amps in general. Some needs to be cranked more than others. And 100 watt tube amps aren’t exactly designed to be played at homes anyways 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V That's true. TSL 100 was my first tube amp, and I decided to take a deep dive without consulting anyone. Thanks for replying, great video.
What order would you put these 3 amps your best to least favorite. Friedman JJ Jr. vs Marshall SC20 stealth vs Marshall TSL? If you could only own 1 which one of these what would it be?
JCM800 2203 but since it isn’t on the list I’d go with the TSL since it’s the most versatile and a really good amp.
@@EugeValovirta230V The JCM800 2203 is out of my budget why it wasn't on the list. What I love you can play INXS to Ozzy with the JCM.
Indeed.
What was the resonance set at on the evh? About half way I'm guessing?
Can’t remember and I don’t think paid attention. Tweaked it to wherever it sounded good 👌😎.
is the jcm 2000 the same as the dsl 100? or are they different?
The old 2000s were made in the UK and are great, the new DSLs somewhere else and they’re just good 😎.
But still you recorded the guitars on no halos in hell with an evh, right? :)
Didn't you even say, that you made a blind test with some amps and preferred the evh there?
I used a few different amps, plugins & Kemper what the producer Jacob Hansen have in his studio. I was like ”yeah man you’re the producer, whatever you want”. And I actually recorded just a D.I. and when Hansen was mixing he re-amped those with the aforementioned gear ’cos he likes to work that way. I actually knew what was used after the album was mixed when I asked him that ”by the way what was the gear we / you actually ended up using” 😎.
I mean I sound like myself no matter the gear so at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. If it sounds good it’s good.
I believe Euge could make a first act Walmart guitar sound good
Most likely ’cos the sound is in the hands of every player 😎.
I haven't watched all the vid yet, but the only real complaint with my TSL60 is the parallel FX loop. I need to find someone who can mod it for me as I think it's a great amp for down tuned metal once you get the EQ right.
I haven’t had any problems with the loops but on the other other hand I hardly have anything in there 😁. Delay occasionally.
@@EugeValovirta230V with the 100 there is a 4 dB volume drop when the loop is engaged. It is easily fixed by changing four resistors on the board though. I really don't know why Marshall never fixed it.
Ah maybe mine was fixed ’cos I bought it as used and haven’t noticed anything.
Maybe I need to check out a jcm 2000
Strong recommendation 👌
TSL 100.. best amp ever!!
How about build quality and ease to repair ?
I’m not an amp tech so no idea 😎.
gran canal ! nuevo suscriptor desde argentina
Thanks! 🙏
Pepita dances!
😊🕺🎉
TSL wins easily. I wish they still made them today.
For this reason I'd beg to see a shootout with the dsl100hr against the tsl, plexi, jcm and 5150....
It’s coming as soon as I get my hands on one 👍😉.
@@EugeValovirta230V Awesome!! It sure seems like alot of amp for €800, the dsl100hr. Especially with having external bias adjustment.
@@EugeValovirta230V JCM 900 would be very interesting as well! A friend of mine has one, sounds great and pretty unique, you should check one out!
Yeah I’ve played with several ones and they’re like most older Marshalls; some are really good and some not so. But if I get my hands on one I’ll definitely do a video 👌.
I'm going to make the title for the next video:
ATK 345245 IIV2 i654i W8W 8W POWERBUTT 34T vs FLEEBMAN 66 LOS34 ROUTER EMANCIPACION PROCLAMATION 7
Thanks for the information. Good luck with the video 😎.
The amp that rules them all? The Friedman BE 100 deluxe!
Matter of personal preferences 😎. To me it’s my JCM800 2203 aka ’The Bad Boy’.
Evh need c137 mod for blue channel.
Can’t argue with personal preferences.
EVH is just too good those 50 wats are way more than 50 , that head screams and growls like Satan going downhill on a monocycle... people talk trash about blue channel , they just dont know how to tweak ( or play apparently ).
Marshall is solid as always bit less fizzy(?) and a bit more throat-ish(?).
They say the blue channel on the Stealth is better than the blue channel on the el34.
Indeed. I think the second channel is the ”main” channel, what Eddie used too, and then you can add even more with the third, kinda like boosting the amp with od. And then there’s the clean channel for occasional daydreaming 😎.
All matter of personal preferences. I like the EL34 more.
@@EugeValovirta230V I typically like the el34 better too, but there is something about that Stealth that just sounds so smooth. I would need to play through both of them side-by-side, to know for sure which one I liked better. Hard to tell from a UA-cam video.
Yeah you get the best vibe by playing any gear by yourself. I think the videos give you a general idea.
well, you are playing with same guitar and using same speakers, the sound comes from speakers so no big difference..................
Obviously this was about the amps’ differences and not speakers’ so…😉
