I love Joss and Pete together. Their playing is so different but so cool to mash together and that amp is really sweet. I’m just glad you guys have them together in a closed room, can’t imagine what it is like to have those 2 in public together. Holy hell, that would be nuts.
glad Joss could join us in between his days as stuntman for that guy who played Professor Lupin in Harry Potter.
Shared volume and gain between clean and crunch channels was the original's biggest design blunder. WIth the volume at good level on clean, the crunch would end up too loud.
Glad they fixed it with this version.

Wow that's a good sounding amp! You know, this brings up an interesting question. If a person wanted to "sound like" Van Halen, but only had a limited budget, say 1,500 pounds or so, what else might work? You could even make a series. Just a thought.
Eddie used a Marshall (not cranked) and a few pedals, that always works. But you'll never sound like him, just in the neighborhood.
Get a used DSL100 (JCM). You can dial in Brown - no problem and it has reverb.

Peter Honore killing it on the bass, Joss with the shreds, and one super awesome amp designed by a living legend! I've got the mk1 evh lunchbox and I use a Tele with it. Sounds awesome! Would love one of these new EL34 ones.

That SSS strat sound is awesome.
I dont keep up with this channel as much as I used to, but wow I am not a fan of that guy not named Danish Pete. As Blind Dog Fulton would say, after seeing him do some really fast run, "sounds like bird shit". Didn't even palm mute on one of the most iconic VH riffs of all time, Aint Talkin Bout Love. Like fuckin a, nobody cares if you play a bunch of notes really fast if the notes are shit and you have absolutely no style.
Finally! I've been waiting for this for a while.
I still wish it had a master volume tho, the three separate volumes are quite annoying to set up.
But i still want it!

It would be cool to have a camera on the front panel for videos like this, I had no idea what the EQ was set like! With that much bass I wanted to know where the knob was at.
Danish Pete knows his way around a bass guitar also I like how to intro jam sounds somewhat like panama by van halen before the shredding starts

I'm going to end up buying either this model in the video, or the regular 5150 iii model. So, can someone explain to me the tonal difference between this amp and the regular EVH 5150 iii 50 watt amp? Is this amp an all around improved version or is it just different?
It's just different. The regular 5150 iii has 6L6 power tubes. 6L6 are "American" while the EL34 power tubes in this video's amp are more "British", like a Marshall.
Oh ok thanks. I just did some quick research, and I think 6L6's would fit my needs better.
Can't go wrong with either IMO. Both are very capable of a wide variety of great tones.
Yeah they both are great in their own way. Either way, I'm definitly investing in an EVH 50 watt head sometime soon.

I can tell it's a good amp but seems like the volume was on 1.
The blue channel of the el34 is flyby not tight at all and has a lot less gain than the blue channel of the 6L6 model. Huge downside to this amp.
Funny.......... I looked through this video as closely as I could without sitting there exactly for 20 minutes......... this amp and it's lineage to the 5150 is most notoriously used for heaviest of heavy metal......... in this video....... not once

If it's the same as the previous 50watt head, the footswitch cable is NOT a guitar cable. It's actually a speaker cable. It does not work with a guitar cable.
The guys used a normal jack to jack cable with the footswitch and as you can see in the video, it worked perfectly.

Mooferoo the previous foot works very well with a guitar cable. I have one of these
Fabio - Howard Kaplan, the designer of the amps stated on the EVH Gear Facebook group that it wouldn't work with an instrument cable when someone thought their amp was faulty after replacing the cable. They changed to a speaker cable on his advice and it was fine after. This was the only reason i brought it up.
I have the amp as well but not had to change the cable :)
I have a 50w and use a guitar cable with the foot switch. Works flawlessly.
And it's only a grand! Problem here being my budget is about 300 😂 gonna be a katana probably
Max2k - i have a mustang v2. Its great if you dont need metal tones. You can get pretty decent rock tones out of it (at least for $200 anyway) and great super amazing cleans. Dont buy it used because you most likely wont have the stuff for the modeling. Also the 40w 1x12 is easily gigable. (Pretty frickin loud for what it is) my dad complains with it on 2. Also it has a normal head phone jack incase you cant play through the speakers. It has 24 presets too.
And this kiddies, is why you should do your videos sober on youtube.
