I can’t believe it’s already been almost 5 years since the release of The 10. I remember it like it was yesterday. Virgil had an immense impact on the culture and fashion both. He is one of the main reasons why streetwear is now part of high fashion. He merged the two world which seemed impossible before. R.I.P. virgil.🕊❤️
Others have been contributing to street culture into high fashion. He was not the pioneer. To call him that is an insult to such legends as Alexander McQueen, Murokami, Yohji Yamamoto, even previous LV artistic director Marc Jacob's and current Pharrell have all been doing crossover street to high fashion before Virgil even come out of university. Pyrex and Off White were super hypebeast brands, selling literally junk in the form of graffiti and so called 'deconstruction' or rather destruction of existing designs. I wouldn't call Virgil so much as a pioneer but a pirate. The Ponzy scheme of fashion.
Seriously breaks my heart we won't get to see any more designs and makes me treasure every bit I picked up along the way, though I wish I'd picked up many more at this point. Probably my number one item I own or is my favourite is the "Temporary" Clock from IKEA, and the fact his passing makes that much more meaningful.
Hey Walter, yeah man to be honest it was pretty heartbreaking making this video and watching tons of interviews of his. RIP. I'm jealous of your IKEA clock! Thanks for watching
@@Repcitykickz that's true and I'm happy about that and the fact he left so many designs for his team to continue working with. But we'll never see him evolve or progress any further. Part of the joy of watching his career starting from something rudimentary like Pyrex and evolve into Off-White and LV as well as all his other brand collaborations. Imagine if you cut Steven Smith career short at 40, all the great designs that came later. There'd be no Yeezy, well not as they look today.
I was never a fan of his design, but that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the cultural impact of Virgil. I understand that huge impact of the Nike Collab in our lives. Off White is really far away of my own of personal style but is and was a big part of the streetwear.
My favorite Off-White shoe is the OW Jordan 4. Very fire colorway, and as you said, less is more! I personally think the last two Off White collabs were pretty garbage, but I still respect Virgil's hard work and dedication til the end. It's very impressive to see all that he accomplished and his very big portfolio of work. Great video as always!
I remember going to LA from the Undefeated raffle for the 10 release. I remember the shoes a sizes wouldn’t show up on my phone and just guessed on what I was signing up for and actually hit on a air max 90s but just half a size bigger than my size. Ended up selling them but that memory is forever with me. Thanks Virgil.

Thank you for making this video. I found it very informative and interesting since I really don’t know much about off-white. I don’t know what my favorite off-white sneaker is. I’m not really into Jordan 1s, but that Jordan 2 looked pretty cool. I tried to get a pair on the SNKRS app, but didn’t win. It was amazing and very interesting how he did the deterioration on the mid sole. Great video!!! 👍👍

Really great editing 🔥 I really enjoyed the video. Imo NachoAveragFinds is the GOAT of sneaker history 💯🔥🐐✨✨✨✨✨🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
How did he change the sneaker world? I've been collecting sneakers for 20 plus years. I don't take one ounce of influence from Virgil's designs. I would even go out to call him a fraud. Anyone can 'deconstruct' or graffiti a sneaker with text such as 'Air' and 'shoelace'. Wasn't even creative. I don't get these people calling him a genious. For what? using anothers design and capitalizing on it. Then yes he was a genious at making money not design. So many hypebeast fast fashion followers cant delineate between creativity and piracy.
Dude was beyond talented and as black man it's not fair... He had so much more to give. Can honestly say he's 1 of the few who put the whole world on notice and made us get fresh again. FLY High King💯
I wasn’t the hugest Off-White fan, but I have nothing but respect for Virgil and the impact he had on the fashion world. The 10 collab is forever goated too ngl🔥🔥🔥
Honestly I think that the appeal of the shoes is that you got an honestly good product. A lot of the other things he did people question the quality of (ex. The early Pyrex stuff). Even if you take away the Off-White stuff, you were getting a Nike shoe. So I feel like there was more material value to these instead of people going just off the brand names. A legend nevertheless and gone far too soon. We really are missing out on his specific take even if I don’t really like the design shoes, it’s different and even I can appreciate the different view.
I would even go out to call him a fraud. Anyone can 'deconstruct' or graffiti a sneaker with text such as 'Air' and 'shoelace'. Wasn't even creative. Hate these people calling him a genious. For what? using anothers design and capitalizing on it. Then yes he was a genious at making money not design. So many hypebeast fast fashion followers cant delineate between creativity and piracy.
Props to you taking the time to make the video Brian, I know how hard it was and your work and effort shines each time man. Probably going to be super unpopular for a comment but I think Abloh's designs at least with Nike were pretty lazy, maybe it's because I'm a software designer and commerial artist myself and I tend to have a different thought when I think of "design" while it is different simply slapping a few things on a shoe and having some slight colour tweaks doesn't make you a designer in my eyes, did he change the form? structure? did he add elements that were actually thought out and either added benefit or function to the wearer? Otherwise doing what he did for the most part seems to cope out because you're taking the hard work of actual designers that took time to try, build and fail and just slap your "3%" change and sell it. No disrespect to him as a person, it's very sad and I'm sorry he's not around and for what it's worth despite my comments on his design he left a large and missing impact for sure.
