In the end, where Cradle somehow managed to creatively find themselved again Dimmu instead went into lifesupport. Vortex may be too busy in Borknagar right now but Mustis should be free, at least as far as band work goes. Getting him back would be a huge step into making the band whole again. Here is to hoping. 🍻

I say this both as a singer and as someone who grew up listening to them... Vortex's voice is the best it has EVER been. He not only reaches those highs now, he has a lot more control and utilizes more techniques than I've ever seen him use in a live performance. Seeing him, Mustis and Tjodalv with the gents actually made my evening. As for other drummers, I of course respect both Hellhammer and Nicholas Barker, and wish Mr. Barker a speedy recovery. However, lets not forget that Spiritual Black Dimensions, with all of its intensity and insane drumming was all Tjodalv. It is nice to know that they are on good enough terms to not reject performing together. Whatever comes next, I trust all the gents' judgement.
This is the Dimmu I knew and loved. ICS Vortex with the clean vocals adds a whole new dimension to the songs. And Mustis is easily the most talented keyboardist they’ve had.
Vortex's voice and the way it cuts through is just amazing. It is exactly what Dimmu is missing from recent releases. I kinda wish Nick was healthy enough to be up on stage with them as his drumming was amazing.
My god, I can only dream of having been there with my hands and the "horns in the air". There is no INSIGHT like there is with Vortex and Mustis. Epic...
Vortex’s voice aged like the finest wine. He’s hitting those long notes with sustain which he couldn’t do back when Dimmu was in their prime. AND the song is back in its original key since he last sang it. Absolutely brilliant.
Hell yeah! Dimmu with Children of Bodom, Nevermore and Hypocrisy back in 2003...still one of the best shows I've ever attended. Love this lineup. Life is too short for BS. Glad to see them collaborate again!

Absolutely, 100%! Peak Dimmu was with him (as well as Nagash) in the lineup. His energy and writing contributed to my favourite Dimmu era. Glad Covenant dug Astennu out of his cave for upcoming touring!
Those old albums sound so much better live when he was playing. If you look up Dimmu Borgir Detroit 1999 it's during a short span where they still had Astennu, but also had Vortex, Mustis, and even Nick Barker... God tier lineup. Thank @Winterborgirr for that
I hope that they get to tour more with this lineup and put their differences behind. With that said, it's important to remember that much like in any other relationship and team, it's important that the people click together. They may all be professionals and even great guys on their own, if it doesn't work as a team - it doesn't work as a team.

At this point, with all this repercussion from Mustiis, Vortex and Tjodalv's special featuring, Shagrath and the other members from Dimmu Borgir are certainly talking to their 3 former companions and putting an end to all the feuds and personal disagreements they've had over the last 15 years. . In other words, they are dotting their i's and reconciling each other. Mustiis, Vortex and Tjodalv are the 3 Vertebral Columns of Dimmu and for the band to recover its past glory, their return is totally necessary!!!

Nick Barker actually was never an official member of the band. Nick Barker is rather a session musician than an stable member of some band. Remember that he played in several bands such as Anthrax, Ancient, Brujería, Cradle of Filth, etc.
Both yes and no. Skill wise, absolutely. But he was a session drummer in the band for like 2 years ish. I think it's Tjovdal on drums in this video. He wrote all the drum parts on the Enthroned Darkness Triumphant album, which is saying a lot. That guy is fucking amazing too. And he was also a full-fledged member of the band. One of the OG's, ish.

When Vortex began to sing the clean part at the end, it literally brought tears to my eyes. I would absolutely love it of Mustis and Vortex came back, full-time. I feel like it would be a massive boost for the band both in sound and relevance again
They should keep this line-up. Even if they would be just a session/live members, like the other guys, it makes more sense from an artistical point of view.
It would be great to have them back: Tjodalv on drums, Vortex on bass, Mustis on keyboard. To make it even better, swapping Galder out and bringing Astennu back for lead guitar.
Shagrath and Silenoz may have written the songs. However, the most impactful vocals in the band and the most sensational keyboard arrangements in the band's history were made by Vortex and his clear vocals and Mustis' keyboards. So much so that it resulted in 4 classic albums and several clips in the top 200 on the billboard with these 2. Something that not even the original lineup achieved.

That is not correct, Galder was not guitarist during that era. I believe this line-up never performed together live before.

The return of Vortex and Mustis after 15 years for a new album would be epic. These two were the soul of the band for years.
You do know it's always been shagrath and Silenoz that writes all of the music. They are Dimmu Borgir and it's heart and soul and always will be
Shagrath and Silenoz may have written the songs. However, the most impactful vocals in the band and the most sensational keyboard arrangements in the band's history were made by Vortex and his clear vocals and Mustis' keyboards. So much so that it resulted in 4 classic albums and several clips in the top 200 on the billboard with these 2. Something that not even the original lineup achieved.
