    I love that they've actually got Magnus judging for the adaptive athletes. That must go a long way to make them feel like they really are strongman competitors, and not just a sideshow. Awesome.

    I remember watching this video for the first time around August 2018. If I only knew the fun journey into disabled strongman it would lead me on. I am now the 2 time Arnold seated class 2 champ and placed 4th at worlds in that same class. I started getting training videos of me about the same time and posted them to my instagram @worldstrongestquad I just wanted to say thank you

    Also having seen the footage from your experiences at the Arnold, last year, I was humbled and truly motivated by these adaptive athletes. On those nights where I'm "just not feeling it," I think about them. I have two good arms and legs, and I can't get off my ARSE for 20 minutes of conditioning? Oh, hell no! Not anymore. So, a HUGE thank you to you and to these amazing people who inspire me to keep my shoulder to the wheel!

    Damn, that's impressive. And inspiring. Would be interesting to see more athletes, adaptive or not, talk about how they get around mental health issues too. Like, when one can barely find the motivation to leave bed, let alone do the required work to keep a salary to pay for rent and food, how do you get motivated to get training in as well?

      If you are an adaptive athlete, then find a coach that is willing to work with you to help you learn some of the movements. And then you just need to search the strongman websites to see what shows are including adaptive events.

    Where can the results be found?

  • @dannyboi162
    @dannyboi162 6 років тому

    Just curious, and don't get me wrong, I really enjoy seeing people with limitations overcoming them but wouldn't something of a competitive nature be counter productive. Loss after loss would mentally be difficult. These people have my respect so no hate just wondering

    • @Xabiosa
      @Xabiosa 6 років тому

      dannyboi162 it kind of is. When you show up to an Open and your reps don’t count it sucks. That’s why having adaptive categories is so important. Because we do have a competitive mindset. But even in an Open, you leave with more than “no reps”, but you meet all other competitors who are super nice and are cheering on you and seem happier when I get a rep than when they do. With Brian’s help and the help of others who keep getting tge word out, hope adaptive Strongman gets big.

    Could use advice
    Been lifting most of my life and recently ended up with several surgeries that got me to simply stop for about 5 years.
    I simply must get back into it. I miss the strength, I miss the soreness, I miss the "feel".
    I have been told by knee surgeon I have knee arthritis and I can feel it.
    I tweaked the incorrect forms and can't find anything on leg training with knee arthritis. I assume I need to bite down and do it. I
    Got any ideas?

    • @thebiggestpanda1
      @thebiggestpanda1 6 років тому +1

      priestof1 med student here. The good news is if it's just arthritis you can usually get a lot of mileage out of using good form and not getting too fat. Pop some ibuprofen or Tylenol before you work out. Cortisone injections go a long way to pain management for a lot of people. The bad news is that you can't heal arthritis, you can only slow down its progression once it's started. By all means keep working out but you need to realize that it's going to be a battle of managing symptoms until you eventually will likely need a replacement. Once that happens (hopefully a long time from now), you need to modify your training to meet the limitations of your new prosthetic. There will absolutely be things you just won't be able to safely do... BUT that just means you can get really good at the stuff you can do! This isn't legal medical advice, it's just my two cents.

    • @priestof1
      @priestof1 6 років тому

      thebiggestpanda1 thank you for the reply and useful information. I'm glad it wasn't a ton of racial slurs, accusations of sexual preferences, and so on. By the time knee replacements are considered I hope I'm am extremely old man and the doctors have figured out something easier than surgery for old folks. So be tenacious about your studying buddy and the best of luck to you.

      A few of the 90% of non-adaptive guys at the local gym who can't break that 176lb. stone off the floor, I'd wager.
