The ‘living Baroque’ idiom of Federico Maria Sardelli has been extensively documented on Brilliant Classics, with albums of concertos (BC94749), cantatas (BC95068) and harpsichord music (BC95488) that have advanced the reputation of this modern composer and scholar and won international attention, with 5-star reviews in Diapason and elsewhere.
Now Sardelli turns his imagination to the genre of the trio sonata that exemplified chamber music-making in the Baroque era. The collection of six presented here divides into two sub-genres, of the church sonatas (Nos. 2, 4, 5) and chamber sonata (Nos. 1, 3, 6) which would have been heard in a domestic, albeit aristocratically appointed, context. Sardelli makes passing and subtle allusions to poignant melancholy (in the Larghetto of the First Sonata), to an infernalrhythmic impulse (the second movement of the Fifth), to more profound meditations on mortality (such as the Adagio without bass of the Third), and even to declarations of love (the opening of the Sixth) - though the subject of Sardelli’s affection is surely Vivaldi himself.
According to the composer, this is not Baroque pastiche. Rather, as a noted scholar of Vivaldi, he seeks to recreate such music in his own image with music of the present which ‘regains its own original language and adheres to its own original criteria, expressing vibrant new ideas that are in keeping with its identity.’ It would be quite possible to think that the trio sonatas here had been written with a goose quill in 17th-century Venice, but they are by no means dry exercises in imitation. Rather they are full of an authentically Venetian vibrancy and colour from any age, sparkling with a variety of knowing brilliance that belongs to the temperamental character of the city.
The performances here are given by musicians who have long worked with Sardelli in his Modo Antiquo ensemble which has made highly praised recordings of ‘real’ Vivaldi as well as Sardelli.

Amazing!
Muito obrigado ! Thank you ! Gracias ! 🙂
Mozart Effect. My grandmother, rest her soul, believed in this so much she played cassettes of Mozart when she babysat me as a toddler. It is probably why I got into piano at age 6 to be honest. Thanks Halidon Team!
Federico Maria Sardelli (born 1963) is an Italian conductor, historicist, composer, musicologist, comic artist, and flautist. He founded the medieval ensemble Modo Antiquo in 1984. In 1987, Modo Antiquo also became a baroque orchestra, debuting with the performance of Jean-Baptiste Lully's Ballet des Saisons in front of an audience of about five thousand. Let's not forget Federico Sardelli is an Enlightenment creation . Hats off .🎻🎻🎻
Ioan Jaja~ Thank you for sharing! A little exploration after reading your comment, while listening to Sardelli’s joyful music, was enlightening. Vivaldi is my favorite. And now I think I may have found a present-day joyful composer and musician, etc. This is a very good day… thanks to you! 🎼🎻🎁👏🏻💖
❤
I wouldn't have known he's current; very authentic compositions.
Commoventi l'invenzione, l'interpretazione e sentire che il secolo d'oro della musica (e non solo) è ancora vivo e incisivo.Grazie.
Una maravilla.Bravo Mr Sardelli
Can't hear enough of Maestro Sardelli. Grazie mille del profondo de mie cuore!
Beautiful, delightful music to listen to! Sardelli has written music that is authentically Baroque and is uniquely his own style - not a copy of another composer. I really enjoy listening to this and will come back to it often. Thanks for sharing!
sorry but I disagree. It is so evident his style it's the exact mirror of Vivaldi's music
Wonderful!I was surprised to know these masterpieces were written in our century!Wow!
Sardelli is one of my favorites. His ability to recreate the italian High Baroque without losing an individual style and sound is simply flawless.
Absolutely!
I love how there is a modern day baroque composer! I hope more people are inspired by him and also compose modern baroque music!
many thanks, This is a musical feast! I am thrilled with the trill
Brilliantly done! Maestro Sardelli is certainly a talented composer. Thank you for the introduction!

Beautiful !Thank you for sharing.
Ora, ora... Um barroco contemporâneo! Quem diria. Muito bom. Wunderbar! Wenn ich gut verstanden habe, ein zeitgenössischer Barocker.
Ausgezeichnet! Danke.

Bravissimo, maestro! Kudos to musicians! What a brilliant composition and performance! By the way, the sound is also outstanding. I've been reading the description looking for the information about the sound engineer(s), but to no avail. Anyway, great job!
So very happy to discover this! Both music as well as composer etc. Thank you!

👍👍👍
很棒喔👍👍
wunderschönes Spiel! Ganz toll!
Ich bin sehr begeistert.
(und BITTE keine Anzeige )
Sounds very good indeed. I myself made two attempts to write concertos in baroque style, which both are published on my channel. But they only exist in poor MIDI recordings of bad sound quality.
What a morning to find this in my UA-cam feed. Wow. Just wow. 🌅
My favourite living Baroque artist
Musicista, musicologo, direttore d’orchestra…nonchè tempo addietro raffinatissimo e faceto contributore al periodico satirico toscano « Il Vernacoliere » di pisana memoria. Che tempi !
Un po' di intonazione, ragazzi!
E diamine!
What's the name of the painting used in the cover? Thank you
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this better known as pastiche ? Musically speaking. It’s very accomplished if I may say. The only real problem with this recording is that the violin is in need of a bit of tuning.
Forget Kanye, bring back the Baroque!
Too much of a Vivaldi knock-off. All I do while listening is think "oh, this is from RV 154, and this is RV 381..." etc. I'd prefer more original neo-baroque compositions.
I hear BWV1051 (III), but its all good. All the greats were inspired by their contemporaries and those before them. I see it as a sign of respect, rather than throwing in a few banger samples and calling it your own. Sardelli is a Vivaldi expert, and has the musical passion of a thousand suns. Guaranteed that by the time Sardelli has matched Vivaldi in output, he will have honed his unique, trademark style.
