- All right most of us know you are suppose to frame Basements in Colorado with the floating walls system, but in some counties and cities you can actually frame with Metal Studs. JUST CHECK WITH YOUR BUILDING PLANERS FIRST. We always make sure all our basements are permitted and done according to all building codes of the area we are working in.
Hey, great video. I’ve been looking for exactly this layout for a while. I’m very curious how you tied Into your I beams Sitting on your pressure-treated top plate. Do you have a video for that?
I use a ramset or hilti gun to nail to i-beams. I don't understand a pressure treated top plate. Thanks for watching.
@@TheBlueCollarPreacher the pressure treated wood sitting on top of the concrete foundation wall that the I beam sits on. Sounds like you nail directly into the I beam and into that pressure treated lumber. Thanks again!
Why aren't you using slotted deflection tracks on your top track?
If the house is more than 5 years old not required. Don't need floating walls,
In colorado, I thought you needed floating walls. How do you get this to passcode as they are not floating? Wondering how to float walls using metal studs? Or if you can?
I was able to do 3 basements in Ft Collins, with metal studs new homes. However during covid, and face time inspections. But we asked ahead of time before doing the jobs. Loveland area says house needs to be over 5 years old before using metal studs. I would just call the city or county first to find out. Thanks for watching.
@@TheBlueCollarPreacher The house I am framing was built in the 60's I will call the building department. Thank you!
@@LivinginDenverColorado I have since framed 3 more houses with wood and floating walls due to rising costs of materials, metal studs have tripled in price since election, wood has doubled. I would check your costs first.
