Thank you for the detailed review, Evan! We're so glad to hear that you had so many positive things to say about the all-new Rivet Counter N Scale EMD SD40-2. Welcome to N Scale!
I have two of these. First of all, they look and sound awesome! The only thing I don’t love is the pulling power. Assuming because it’s lighter, it pulls significantly less cars than the equivalent Kato loco. These have found a home on my layout as lead beauty queens with the rest of the consist being the Kato workhorses.
Nice unit. I have one of that model but in HO with Loksound 5 DCC. It didn't start out to be loksound, it had Soundtraxx Economi. Yours has lighted number boards that I wished I had but I do have functioning ditch lights My cab face is white. How did you get your couplers to make sound when hooking up. I have the coupler sounds but only when using the function buttons but not when coupling to a car or another locomotive. Mine is an Athearns. Hooked up to this is my Atlas GP 40-2. That does have lighted number boards and ditch lights I have my ditch lights flashing then using the horn. Part of the Lokprogrammer system. All my 7 locomotives have been upgraded to Loksound 5 decoder. with nice selection of different sounds to program into the decoder. I use the Digitrax Zephyr DCS52 controller with DT602D handheld throttle. It also controls switch motors and the switch signal lights through DCC (SMAIL switch machines and electrofrog switches)
What decoder in this? I have one like this by Athearns, same model but in HO and I changed out of Soundtraxx to Loksound 5. My horns are in a different place, further back. A friend help me put PTC antenna on top of cab.
Another great review!

Thank you for making such a great locomotive!
I’m definitely really happy I got this

I guess I haven’t really had a chance to put an adequate size train with it yet so I hadn’t noticed
Wish they had an option for a working beacon. I would gladly pay a few bucks more. Looks like it would be tricky though, with the headlight so close.
I absolutely wished it worked. I do wonder if the close proximity to the headlight would have made it hard to do
Structural limitations are a likely constraint. They’re present in the HO version

It’s ESU Lok-Sound it’s talked about in the video
What about the low hanging fuel tank?
My model does not have this issue
Apparently some have had the issue from this run but mine does not appear to be low hanging
good review :)
