Old EQ, EQ2, WoW and P99 player here. I love these types of games especially when starting out and not being able to look everything up on a wiki and know everything. Lots of fun exploring and trying out skill combos and getting into combat. $40 is more than reasonable for a game you're going to play more than 10 hours. I didn't donate earlier I waited until their EA launch. I got around 12 hours in already and enjoying it even the crafting which I have never really done before.
A new dangerous world to explore and bosses to fight for the price of 2 mcdonalds meals not a bad deal. Enjoying the game so far yeah it needs some work though the gameplay style with no pay to win is nice.
This game has very sharp learning curve as far as mmos go. I think thats the biggest appeal for me. I will say the really need to move death penalties to lvl 10 rather then lvl 5. Most classes are starting to come into their own by lvl 8. I know shaman gets its rez at 8. Idk Im all for losing xp and items dropping on corpse but lvl 5 is much to early to start penalizing people.
I agree with this. Especially when you consider that around lvl4-5 is when people typically start exploring and going further into the world. Stumbling upon group mobs or getting jumped by a named animal that aggro's when all the others of its type don't. It's a very harsh reality check for people. And I feel that should come AFTER the early level grouping happens. So players can get a better feel for the game. Like getting to eat a carrot before having another dangled in front of you with a stick waiting to hit you if you mess up (carrot is group content and stick being death penalties).
That's part of the games mechanics. Groups have to decide who carries the torch(s) for group fights. As not everyone CAN carry a torch (dual wielders and tanks) Plus it creates a definitive negative to using two-handed weapons that doesn't require janky number balancing for classes. Use a two-hander for more damage... but you can't see shit at night without a friend carrying a light for you. And if you would normally dual-wield. You lose a portion of your damage when using a torch. It adds more nuance, context, and consideration to adventuring out at night. To the extent that many players will do all their gathering and killing during daylight. Then use nightfall as their time to go back to town to sell, craft, replenish, and bank their gains. At high levels, Wizards gain a light spell that makes them ESSENTIAL to night time or underground activities in groups. Which adds further unique class dynamics to party compositions.
You know whats cruel. I waited a year to be able to play this. The day it launched I got dispatched to work on the North Slope. Won't be able to play it for at least another month.
Kind of trash to put in a nasty death penalty so early in the game, Death penalties shouldnt matter until later in the game, level 5 is way too early, lost all my bags etc because I had no clue how to find my corpse. For a game that wants you to explore it punishes you so fucking harshly at the beginning.
Before you release after dying, type /loc so you will be able to find it more easy. Also, once people get to a bit higher levels summoners and necros can summon your corpse. For summoners it's a level 12 spell, not sure for necros.
if you think youll get lost or go someplace dangerous leave everything in the bank. After a while your get use to get and its a good feeling when you settle into it. Its the "I got this shit" bad ass fealing
Seriously maps ruin games adventure and exploration. Id turn the map off every game if i could. Makes the world feel bigger. With a map you play 20 percent of the content without a map your going to play 80 percent of the content. Do you really not like finding hidden stuff that few have ever found i definitly do.
@@Hunter77567 The presence or absence of a map does not affect the quality of the world's content. If the world is empty and boring, it will not become more rich without a map.
game map basically ruins the game, you technically have to guess on these games which actually makes it better which is what most of us did back in the days when there was no maps to guide us.
@@ericfetterman5746 The presence of a map in the game does not mean that secret areas are marked on it. In the same Gothic, you could buy a map that gave a general idea of the world and motivated you to explore the locations marked there.
It plays EXACTLY like the old EQ, 25 years later, warts and all, and it barely looks better, what a huge disappointment! I was expecting a modernized EQ but it is just EQ 1.1 as if it was developed in 2005 and it is barely half finished, early access will last 3 or 4 more years if the game survives that long. 40 dollars for a bit of nostalgia :(
Well youre welcome to your opinoin but this looks nothing like EQ at all. Id say maybe a cross of EQ2 and wow with better lighting audio and a ton more added detail. So I guess nothing like eq2 or wow... Example, find me any location in a game before 2010 that had an entire zone of very tall grass that blows in the wind that you can get lost in. There isn't one because the tec in that time was to limited. There will eventually be global illumination and that will reallllly add the zap to the lighting system. Have you ever turned on shadows on in EQ? prolly not because its would CHUG your PC with only a few people on screen and the shadows would never move with the time.
@potsandjacks Shadows changing with time of day were in the first Gothic. In general, the game looks and feels like a game from the 2000s. You can play it seriously only for the sake of nostalgia.
@@potsandjacks I mean that dynamic shadows, depending on the time of day, are nothing new. Yes, modern technologies allow us to do it better, much better than what was done in Pantheon. Another thing is that Gothic had a simulation of NPC life, which most modern games, including MMOs, do not have. And this is much more important for the atmosphere in the game than dynamic shadows, which most people do not pay attention to.
@ You’re comparing apples to oranges as well as picking the least important point I was making and ignoring everything else. You’re also ignoring the fact that pantheon is still in an alpha and all of the polish on the game is still about a year and a half away. Pantheon is going to have a full global illumination system so the game that you’re looking at now is literally nothing like you’re going to see in a year and a half to two years. you’re essentially criticizing the quality of a fully furnished and built home wile only looking at the frame before the dry wall is put up. the dynamic world will be present. pantheon is not a single player game it is a social MMO so the dynamic world is provided by the other players. The NPC‘s are modeled after the NPCs found in EverQuest and that is exactly what the player base wants them to be. If this is something that doesn’t interest you then there are other games that are more suited to your desires. I hate telling people that this game isn’t for them because I want Pantheon to be for everyone however I don’t want to sacrifice the game design based arround the absurd criticism that most people have like no mini map or why isn’t there a hand holding me everywhere I go. Pantheon could’ve been a fully funded, they had several offers from a few different Distributors but they turned them all down because they stuck to their values and didn’t want to compromise. The character models aren’t finished the animations aren’t finished many game systems aren’t added the lighting isn’t finished this sky will eventually have two sons, different races will have different sort of visions, perception system isn’t online yet, literally every single aspect of the game is in motion and I know people who aren’t used to watching games being developed in front of them aren’t used to this sort of stuff but here’s an example that you can watch the game grow into something amazing in real time. So your criticism is absurd.
Totally understandable. As for me, a vip pledge who really wants this game to succeed bought 2 copies on top of the 2 copies included in my pledge. To me, what's 40 dollars to help this company hopefully finish the game that I'll be playing for a long time. If they do launch, I believe that it'll be money we'll spent
I've played P99 for a super long time. Since before Kunark came out on the original P99 server and most recently until 2023. P99 is like old school EQ, but it isn't old school EQ. No one else is grouping outside of a zone with an experience modifier unless there's a raid target there. That's real classic, all right.
Thats valid, It is a work in progress. However everyone else in game is really excited to play and don't want to waste another 2 years when you'll have to pay 40+15 every month for a subscripttion. so techincely you'll get 2 free years of game time AND play a really solid alpha.
This game won't last long I will give it 6 months. 10 years to make and the graphics are so bad. I wanted Everquest content in an unreal engine 5 environment not built in an outdated engine.
Pantheon has been an absolute blast to play.
Been watching pantheon content and came across your channel. I just started when EA released and have been having an absolute blast!
This looks like my childhood back in the 2000's that totally looks like EverQuest which in my eyes was the best game for long time.
