Assuming they stick to two years of early access, this game will be in development up to an alpha state for 13 years. At this rate, we are looking at a 20 year development. With the last official funding posted at around $5.3 mil total, I can't imagine they will have the funds to keep going. If 30k people buy early access, which is unlikely, they would add another $1.2mil. This means the team will never grow, likely shrink, and development will never speed up. No ill will towards this project, but it would be a long shot for this to ever get "officially launched" in a truly polished state. My guess is it will stay in early access forever and eventually just end. People don't even think Ashes of Creation will release and that game has over 6x the funding with a team 4x the size and it's been in development for over 8 years.
I don't mind resets if the game is fun. And early access is usually a beta. Open and closed is based on availability. I believe this would be classified as a closed beta since you must buy to play. Open is free for everyone.
@BraidedZero Paid game tester here to chime in on your comment. Closed betas are defined as "invite-only." Open betas are by consumer choice to participate in or not. Having a price tag or not is irrelevant when going by definition. Technically speaking, kickstarter games that offer pre-release access to a game for backers. Is considered open alpha/beta testing. As consumers can choose to take part or not through backing or purchase.
Damn that thumbnail got me. Even though I still plan on playing Pantheon (I've waited since Brad McQuaid talked to Boogie2988 like 10 years ago) I just feel like the artstyle change makes the game feel so different than what was originally envisioned, and what some of the early concept/promo art showed. I hope its good and does well, but it really sucks they had to do that.
Art style has never really been something I cared too much about. I am curious to see how that affects the game overall with people not wanting to play because of the overall look of the game but as long as there is good gameplay and things to do, I'm happy.
Sad to see this is EA after 10+ years of development. I will continue watching from the outside on this one….sadly I anticipate this to be the biggest let down of my video game life. I do hope it succeeds in the long run.
I went for the EA. Yes, it's unpolished, but the experience is challenging and enjoyable. I came in knowing it takes a long time to develop games like this. Often over 10+ years. Even WOW took at least that long, they just did not announce publicly it until it was a lot more polished. These days, it's easy to find out about games in development well before they reach a polished state that would satisfy the player who just wants to play a game and not wait for upcoming content, etc. For me, there is enough for me to enjoy what is there while also being able to catch bugs, give feedback. and have something to do with friends and family who enjoy similar type games and understand the development stage. Pantheon is not a finished game, that is true. However, it has enough "meat" to it that it is interesting and I get to discover things for myself as well as feel a since of accomplishment for the things I achieve. The crafting system in place already has a good feel to it. It's not quick, but the grind is "just enough" to make you work at it that when you finally make that next piece of burlap fighting gloves, there is a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
I have been awaiting this game for so long. But the single thing stopping me from playing it is the wipes. I am not wasting my time putting time into a character and playing just to have it wiped. VERY disappointed in the dev's for releasing it in essentially an alpha state.
Two years is a reasonable time for a full release with early access. Still, I'm not confidence playing early access right now. I think I will be looking more about the early access experience of the game. I wonder if they have any European server which is working stable, and my biggest fear is that if they can continue to develop the game.
oh no, you have to rely on other players in an MMORPG and can't do the whole thing solo? what kind of crazy stupid design is THAT for a multiplayer game? dang pantheon is cooked /s
2 years of early access now after 9 years of development. Where's the money gonna keep coming from? Especially if it's gonna bé 2 years of wipes, the player base is gonna die before the game releases like so many games that go through EA doing this same mistake.

the only thing that displeases me is server wipes
Understandable. Never had that much fun in a MMO though (i am an early tester). If you are the target audience, you will have a blast.
EA is technically a Open Beta
I don't mind resets if the game is fun.

@@keldor8302 gotcha, good clarification. I always considered the open aspect to mean you can jump on without a price tag.

I agree. The new artstyle really ruins alot of the game for me. Now it looks more like a cheap fortnite clone.
Did a champion pledge back in the summer not realizing EA was coming just wish I waited. $200 vs $39.99 is way better
just hope they will do something special for the people who plage money for the game
I believe they have plans for people that bought in. But ultimately you paid that much to help them develop the game. So thanks for that!
The graphics look straight out of the 1990's.
I know, I love it lol
That's a good thing
I'll give it some thought; once no more wipes are announced.

Once you can pay for a game and can play it, it's launched.
Yep. I agree. Use all the fancy words you want, but that's what it is.
Early access for at least 2 years?? Holy shit lol
When compared to the 10 years of development already, it's not that long lol

Where is Bazgrim?
another 2 years.... geez
Whats sad is that you have to rely on other players. Ugh forget doing anything by your self or quick. So if you have a life forget about it.
I like the fact that you'll need a community to do things. I have plenty of games I can play on my own. I want a group game

exactly. where's the excitement for 'launch' when you've already been playing for 2 years!
hopefully they upgrade the Graphics of the game lol. so dated but im still excited for this game
I like it’s more old school feel
No Halfling Warrior?
Thats some 🐂💩
Buy it the game rocks
Played for an hr today. Seems just fine. Plays like a classic mmo. Feels like a true sequel to Vanilla EQ. Everquest 2 was kinda lame.
I would rather play WOW Classic.
And I wouldn't blame you at all! Go do that
But you have done everything in classic and blizzard isnt making new classic style expansions. Your just on repeat forever.
The graphics already look dated. UE 5 AoC doesnt look as pretty as Thone and Liberty. Comments about the game aside, it was a pretty MMO.
Game runs like crap on amd gpus.
So 2030 or 2035 pathetic.
looks hella alpha
