    I'm Malaysian but same as you, I don't like my savoury dishes sweet. A bit sweet is acceptable because sometimes it's the uniqueness of the food like 'Ayam Masak Merah' and 'Pajeri Nanas' but if too much then better I buy ice cream. Lately I found that many viral food here is actually a bit sweeter to my liking for example Nasi Lemak Wanjo, the Sambal is sweet and to my standard I consider 1 star for the sambal.

    You say breakfast is heavy its actually very normal to have heavy breakfast in Malaysia ( all traditional breakfast) this is because in the old days most people do heavy back breaking labor thus the need for heavy caloric intake for labor. Breakfast is normally savory and not sweet. The second meal you had is called Pasembur a type of Rojak ( or mixed salad) similar to your antipasto , normally served during tea time or even lunch , you select the side stuff on display many are tofu /fish combo or fish cake he was right its mostly fish but may have chicken or beef no pork because its Muslim food. Most English speaking vendors usually the owners are Malaysian born since Malaysia also has many migrant workers they may not be Malaysian and don't have standard Malaysian English education. Try the the traditional Malay or even Chinese desserts they are not as sweet as your Italian dessert.
    By the way its not Pasta its yellow noodles, Chinese in origin - that breakfast meal is Indian Muslim using Chinese yellow noodles ( a true mix of culture). Maybe Italian call all noodles Pasta yes/no? .

    • @MichelePonte
      @MichelePonte  4 місяці тому

      I call it pasta cause it resonates with my audience. By pasta in Italy we mean all type of similar dishes, including noodles, which we call spaghetti (tiny laces).
      If it is a Chinese origins or not, it's up for discussion because the way we do it is completely different. When you search "pasta" on Wikipedia it will tell you: While noodles are believed to have originated in Asia, pasta is believed to have originated in Italy and is a staple food of Italian cuisine.
      Anyway, thanks for your large comment.

    • @mr3111
      @mr3111 4 місяці тому

      @@MichelePonte i'm not debating the origin of Pasta i was just saying that particular yellow noodles you ate (at that moment in time) is Chinese in origin. I don't think you can debate that. However you called it Pasta i thought maybe you were confused or that maybe some Italians call all noodle dishes Pasta hence why i asked for clarification.

    • @MichelePonte
      @MichelePonte  4 місяці тому

      Yes, noodles for us are just a type of pasta.

    i actually hate when the cucur udang sauce and also the "pasembor" or in penang they called it "rojak" a bit too sweet..the sweet taste should not overcome the spiciness....it should hv sum kick to it..but different stall make different sauce..u should try the malay version

    Ancient India exerted a profound influence over Southeast Asia through trade, religious missions, wars and other forms of contact. Pre-colonial Malaysia was part of 'Indianised Kingdoms' such as Srivijaya , Kadaram and the Majapahait, which formed part of a cultural region known as Greater India.This probably where the first wave of migration from India towards Southeast Asia happened during Asoka's invasion towards Kalinga and samudragupta's expedition towards the South.

      Well, not all of 'precolonial Malaysia', and not consistently through time. Certainly Kedah is a great example of an 'Indianised' polity, in reality likely a colony of sorts. Malaysia (the modern nation-state) underplays historical Indian influence, for sure.
