I’m 45 yrs old and when I was a little boy in grade school. I can remember looking at Larry Benoit’s book that my dad had. How To Bag The Biggest Buck Of Your Life. The Original edition. I went through that book front to back 100 times. Amazed with the pictures of the big bucks Larry and Lanny had shot. It was back before it was a big deal to shoot big bucks. To hear Lanny say that back in his prime. The only thing that could save a big buck was a big river or running out of day light sends a chill down my spine. I can only imagine how many big 200 lbs bucks that have lost their life to that man’s trigger finger. And the thousands of miles tracking and the adventures he’s been on. In my opinion, there has never been a better whitetail deer hunter on the face of the earth than Lanny Benoit. There is a lot of amazing deer hunters. But there’s only one Lanny Benoit !
no trail cameras no four weelers no gps no bottle buck lures no bait in front of camera to see the deer u r hunting no camera that is connected to your phone to tell u the deer u want to hunt has just passed your stand .THAT IS REAL HUNTING.love it can't wait f the next part.great podcast again
I once spoke to Larry Benoit. I will always remember our conversation. I bought his book many years ago and knew nothing about hunting. No one in my family hunted. I have been following the Benoit family ever since. Their books make great gifts. I want to thank you for this series.
I’m in the same boat. Just took the hunter safety course and next year will be my first year hunting at 43 years old. I live just south of the Adirondacks and not far from Vermont and love spending time in the woods. Been binge watching every video on UA-cam of Lanny and family and also Joe Dinitto
Watched this video last night. Woke up to fresh snow this morning. Wind was wrong for the "good" stands on the home 80 so I hit a big chunk of public ground with the crossbow and got it done! Killed over 25 bucks on private but this was my first public land buck (should have been a 9pt but broke a G3) and first buck I've taken still hunting. Thanks for the inspiration.
Really enjoyed this so much, my family hunted the Catskills, Adirondacks, Canada and right up in the forks and Jackman Maine for the last 60 years. Love hearing these stories as so many can relate, and I am happy to see what a great podcast this was. Well done
I used to love to watch the benoits videos. My grandfather was friends with Larry. We used to drive by their camp in Duxbury every year. Our camp was in Warren. I thrive to like them every year.
My dad and I wonder how he's doing and what he's up to. The videos completely changed the way I hunt. I could list a hundred ways. Thanks for putting this together.
He nailed the part about not being able to do that anymore. Those guys use to hunt telos which is where I grew up hunting and now the loggers have flattened that land. It’s a shame. All the major deer winter yards have been cut
Thanks for watching! Can you please send me an email at huntsuburbia@gmail.com? I am writing an article and would like to ask a few questions! Thank you.
IIRC, my introduction to Larry & Lanny was a big write-up in a hunting magazine (Outdoor Life, perhaps?) back in the 70's. Living in the South (FL & NC), the whole notion of tracking a deer over long distances and walking him down until you kill him is/was as foreign as Greek. It's got to be a challenging and rewarding way to hunt deer and I'm envious of those that get to do it.
Great Pod cast.. as an older guy…at 69…and killed over 75 bucks in my lifetime……It’s great to see Lanny tell of his deer hunting ….at my age now I have to stand hunt areas of whitetail buck.. choke points…or regular buck travel routes..to collect a nice buck…knees are so bad… can’t walk the miles I used to here in Northern Michigan…….my semi daily..squirrel hunting helps to narrow down the mature buck routes or daily whitetail movements…our bucks in North west Michigan…usually are more in the 150 to 180 lb range due to the hard winters of heavy snow and heavy hunting pressure these day...
The Benoits…are damn good deer hunters..I love seeing and reading about their exploits in deer hunting out East..as well watching Maine Mountain Bucks..guys….but I’ve killed so many deer in my lifetime..that my squirrel hunting has been my favorite hunting past time these days.
As a kid during deer season, my dad and I would have to drive through route 100 past their house on the way to our camp and I'd see the bucks hanging from the porch. My dad stopped by so i could get a closer look, larry came out and told me one day I'd shoot bucks like that. Still trying 😅
I was at the New Brunswick hunt with Lanny , Shane and Lane , on one of the afternoons I was with Lanny we were scouting an area and stopped on one of the logging roads . Lanny opened the back door of the Suburban and an orange fell on to the ground, Lanny grabbed his rifle and had me throw the Orange in the air , he shot the orange turned to me and said now we have orange juice. I’ve never before or after seen someone shoot like that,
A real hunter he is... not these corporate fools that hunt on a farm off feed and think they are hot shit cause they shoot a 270 pound 300 inch deer. They suck at real hunting and they look pathetic doing it. Spend thousands on equipment not needed to look cool and couldn't find a deer in the woods up here if they tried for 2 months
I feel same n say come up here to Whiteface Mt area ware I live n hunt see how ya hot shot hunters do. There is huge bucks here! But so much mountian land there hard to get to. Most don't got the grit to climb for them. My biggest was an 8pt thick webbed horns 28inch spread, 236lbs.
Everyone wants to know how to find and shoot big deer,,, put your time in! That's the only answer! Live in the Forest.. There are no shortcuts..! Go hunt! Make mistakes,! Spend your Whole day off just to fail.. But at the end you will have learned something about hunting Deer,.. "if" You love what your doing... That is the answer.. Find yourself on the track.
Kids younger than 10 can hunt in Maine.... They changed the law... LOL Him and his family have hunted in the area we hunt in the past. We've crossed paths before. I was taught to hunt the same way they do since I could walk.
Hey Legends, got one that might make you drool! Made on a Sunday afternoon in Ilion, NY back in the mid-70's. A 742 Bi-Centennial model with AAA grade wood handpicked by the gunsmiths working there the Friday before it was assembled. Rifle not carbine length in .30-06. it pays to have relatives that are gunsmiths. Oh yeah, has the "X" serial number as well.

Lanny seems healthy for mid 70's all that venison he's got a long life ahead of him. What a legend you can see how much he enjoys reminiscing his past hunts.
Man, I want hunt with Lanny just once. He has a great sense of humor and I would be a sponge taking in his wisdom.

I can do
That's a fact
Man, I can't believe Lanny is 74. Guy was a legend when I was a kid and I'm 60. Thanks for interviewing him!
This man is a deer hunting legend with more knowledge of the deer woods than I could ever learn

Thats rite, i dont even hunt a stand, only tracking over the mountains, mountain after mountain, what ever it takes!
Big woods were better before GPS !
Should be banned baiting
Yea these new gen tech Hunters have ruined the mystique of Deer Hunting for me. I Quit when Trail Cam generation took over
Lanny is a true legend and a genuine guy. Very down to earth which is what every hunter should strive to be 💯

@ I even found another original version and gave it to my son. I still think it’s the best book out there
I got to see the Benoit's about 15 years ago at a talk/lecture. I remember their lessons today. Best deer hunters ever.
Lanny is a really nice guy. In 1986 i joined him for buck season. That year he shot a 248 pound buck.

This is so great! I could listen to Lanny’s buck stories forever. This guy knows the things, lol.
I know I left many comments on this video but gotta watch it again, starting to get the itch already!!!

Yes, my favorite type of hunting in the north woods of Minnesota. Congrats.
Love ..Lanny, s stories. Gets me thinking back to my childhood with deer hunting and the Northern Michigan woods of the 60s and early 70s..
Lanny is as famous in the snowmobile racing world as he is in the deer hunting world.
Love this guy! I could listen to him for hours.

LOL...Funny seeing you here
I shot the majority of my big bucks because of what Lanny taught me. We had a lot of fun together. Great guy and glad to see him doing well.

@@HuntSuburbia if you talk with him again ask him about it .
@@richardbrewin4936 I will, already wrote it down in my notes of things to bring up when we do it again!
Ive heard that story before.

2 weeks and the rest of the year 🤣🤣🤣
I would have fell outta the chair 🤣
Book?
We want to know how they got back to camp?
How do the bucks taste depending on fat percentages ?

I wish you would have asked lanny if he’s ever seen anything spooky while he was in the wilderness.
You learn from the old timers,or the bucks themselves.
🐐
😊
Is there a buck?
The drum sounds are too annoying in the background.
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
Are we talking dressed weight?
They always talk dressed weight out East..
When you deer hunt this aint nothing but porn!!
Looks like Lanny needs to get on treadmill or one day soon he's not going to make it out of the woods.
It's not a story when it's told first hand.
Back when men were men, and women were... scared!!!
Or could just be a running deer. Looks same. Can't tell diff from track. U might think u kno diff. Facts are they look the same a big doe or big buck.
I think you can tell by how the tracks move around cover. Bucks use cover differently.
U sure ?
Easy to tell for experienced hunters.
