Just FYI, the guy that started Piggly Wiggly was the guy that started the modern grocery store in America. This was back in the time when you used to bring in a list of stuff to a clerk and they would go measure out your flower, weigh your bananas grab your two cans of beans or whatever and bring it to you. Back when you could run a tab for groceries... bit of useless trivia for you
His name was Clarence Sanders. He started the first Piggly Wiggly in Memphis. He was heavily invested in the stock market and lost everything when it crashed. The city of Memphis took over his property and now it is The Pink Palace Museum. There is a replica of the store inside the museum.
the first true supermarket in the United States was opened by a former Kroger employee, Michael J. Cullen, on 4 August 1930, inside a 6,000-square-foot (560 m2) former garage in Jamaica, Queens in New York City.[16] The store, King Kullen, operated under the slogan "Pile it high. Sell it low."

Piggly Wiggly is actually the first ever self-service grocery market chain in existence. Without them training customers on how to get their own items or navigate a store with aisles we wouldn't be using shopping carts, checkout stands or even have the ability to buy many items in smaller quantities versus bulk. With the switch to self-service we even saw a whole new era of manufacturers trying to appeal directly to customers through packaging and different forms of advertising, brand recognition became a huge thing, if you could get a customer to recognize your brand or unique packaging and grab it off the shelf instead of the other guy (or the cashier picking it for you or otherwise directing your purchase) it was a huge thing. Funny name but interesting story.
Love old Piggly Wiggly! We had one and I also used to shop with my grandparents there for all the years we were able. I'll never forget that. They never drove so we either took the bus or walked. Unless someone from the fam drove them. Once in awhile a taxi but mostly just the usual. Gramma had one of those rolling shopping carts and we really had to work, especially to get back. Old houses built on hills with cracked and crazy sidewalks. But it was fun and so close to my heart. Our Pigglys are gone here, don't know if Iowa still has any. I mean there could be more in Illinois but not our town. I miss them and my Mom and Dad so very much. That really brought me back. I even got to take my daughter up there a few times before they passed. Nostalgia is such a bittersweet thing.🙏🐷

"Her family pledges to fight AGAINST her freedom." Damn! You pretty much never hear that. Also, 40 years, eligible for parole in 10?? Look, we weren't sitting in court, so maybe the evidence could only prove so much, but that seems light. And please don't hate me for this, but it seems there really is a trend of the ladies getting less time. And yes, I realize her accomplice, a guy, only got 20 in this case, but if she was proven to have killed her husband, doesn't a life sentence seem a little more warranted? Idk. I'm just happy I've never had to decide someone's fate as a juror before.
No, I completely agree with everything you said. From her family vowing to fight against her possible release in 10 years to feeling that seems way too light of a sentence with regards to the minimum. I am not sure what the sentencing guidelines are for that state, but with regards to the seemingly disparate sentencing between men and women, it does seem she got off with a lighter sentence. Let's just hope the parole board denies her release when that time comes.

I remember hearing about this case on Dateline. The detectives didn't believe her right away because of the Milo's food. They said no one order Milo's fries and not eat it right away. She said she picked up food and ran to the store without eating it yet, and detectives said that doesn't sound right because no one would let those fries get cold. I guess Milo's are known for their fries. So detectives were persistent because of that one hunch.
I imagine cops would generally be more apt to solve crimes where food played a part in the solution.🤷♂️ If someone told the FBI that Jimmy Hoffa is buried with a meat lovers deep dish, we'd get that cleared right up.

Two husbands and one killed himself and one was murdered by person or persons unknown? Yeah, well I think if I were a man, I would not want to marry Cindy. So, she had to run to the store to get something she had forgotten so she left, and Michael entered the house allowing someone who was lying in wait to shoot him? Well, isn't that convenient? That's the same thing Bart Whitaker pulled. He came home from a restaurant with his brother and his mom and dad, but he turned around and went back to the car to get his cell phone which he had forgotten leaving mom and dad and brother to enter the house where a friend of his shot all three of them and only dad survived. These excuses are getting terribly tired and overused. I'm wondering if the cops ever went back and looked at the death of Cindy's first husband. Maybe he killed himself or maybe she killed him also. What I think is hysterical about this case is how quickly Cindy's own true love, dear old Jeff, turned on Cindy and threw her under the bus in an attempt to save his own worthless hide. BTW, I live in Nashville, and we actually have Piggly-Wiggly stores here. I don't shop there regularly but I have shopped at Piggly-Wiggly. They are pretty good places to shop because they pretty much have anything you want but they are not as large as say a Wal-Mart Superstore that takes you an hour or more to get through. You can get in and out of Piggly-Wiggly very quickly.
"Why did they call? Just shout!" "Sex is temporary but games are eternal." "We tried something designed for children to save our marriage and we are all out of ideas!"😆😆😆 Mike is on a roll with hilarious zingers! It's hard to catch a breath.
Theres a guy who bled out, face down in his own puke here. These are peoples lives. Jokes about events leaving up to a brutal slaughter are tacky and crusty. Just FYI, the guy that started Piggly Wiggly was the guy that started the modern grocery store in America. This was back in the time when you used to bring in a list of stuff to a clerk and they would go measure out your flower, weigh your bananas grab your two cans of beans or whatever and bring it to you. Back when you could run a tab for groceries... bit of useless trivia for you
Very interesting trivia to me.
1 petal for you..1 petal for me...

I didn’t know that. Thank you for sharing!!

One thing is for sure, it wasn’t a mini!

You’re such fun to watch; we have the exact same mindset so I have to replay many times during my watch of your videos just to make sure I don’t miss anything! 😂😂😂😂❤
Hope all my fellow TC fans from the UK have kept themselves safe today. Eunice was one hell of a storm!
As someone born and raised in Texas, it gave me GREAT joy to see you learn about Piggly Wiggly for the first time.
tennesseean here i thought the same the good ol pig in the wig
I’m from the northeast and while I have heard of it many times I still don’t believe it exists 😁🤗😘.
Alabamian here and I love the pig!
My first job was at a piggly wiggly. I'm big on the pig. Lol edit: South Carolina
Born and raised in Arlington tx baby
"We tried something designed for children to save our marriage, and we're all out of ideas!" I died 😂
I went looking for this because I knew I wouldn't be the first to say it hahahaahha
they deserved the treatment...
Mike is such a good storyteller. Storytelling is a lost art that he brings to life.
It's pure joy Mike gave me with his reaction to Piggly Wiggly being a real store.
In Ireland we only know that name from Driving Miss Daisy, I didn’t know it was real either 😆
It’s one hell of a name for anything, unless it’s a children’s story. At 14:59 the detective says: “Before you said you went out to go to the pig, . . .” So, it’s also known as the pig.
"Sex is temporary, games are eternal."
You're goddamned right.
I've been through a divorce and, even though it was amicable, it still was no walk in the park. But I would imagine any divorce would be better than spending the rest of your life in prison with the scenario of taking someone's life playing over and over in your head. They didn't have kids and I didn't see Mike do the life insurance dance; so this was the very definition of senseless.
Nope. Between divorce, murder and gross obesity, divorce is the worst sin. American Jesus says so.
Yeah but todays women are crazy. You ought to know that by now. Never get married.
I will never understand how people think murder is better than divorce. Murder is one of the ten commandments whereas divorce isn't even mentioned.
