12:31 “Cease not thine narration!”… said no one to Cedric in the history of ever.
That's my favorite line that ChatGPT wrote. I plan to incorporate it judiciously into my daily vernacular.
“Im the absolute opposite of proud “
I mean... why would I be proud of this? I have created an abomination. 😁
Omg, that shot of Cedric in the tree. I'll never sleep again.
i saw your comment and was prepared for it to be bad. But not THAT bad. Never mind Graham, what Daventry needs is an old priest and a young priest, stat.
I always thought Cedric talked out of his ASS. Apparently the AI thought so too
12:04 Cedric shows his true form
Looks like a creature from The Owl House
I died
Cedric never looked better, befits his personality
Forget Girl in the Tower. Forget Land Beyond Dreams. King in the Castle is now the greatest King's Quest song.
Yet Graham sets foooooorthhh!
Good stuff.
Is he a hero or just a pawn at best.
AI can't decide what hat King Graham actually wears. It changes frame by frame, is a baseball cap from one perspective, and a beanie in another.
Time to call up Radio stations to demand they play "Pawn At Best"
And email Michael Bolton's lawyer.

Wow...Snoop Dogg, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mr. Beast. If you asked me to come up with three more disparate celebrities as choices for your AI voice, I couldn't do it.
Yo that song was kinda fire ngl
I agree that it should be burned.
I hope PushingUPRoses and CannotBeTamed catch this...

@@spacequesthistorianNice, looks like I have some catching up to do, thank you!
17:57 The worst crime is rhyming "true" with "true" 😂
Some of it looks ALMOST acceptable, and then there's all the horror. Great work!
Certain elements work better than others. The landscapes in particular are actually passable.
Unless you zoom in on them. Then they're a bit "AI-wonky," as you'd expect. For all its meteoric advances, AI still hasn't figured out how to draw straight lines.
There was a time long ago when generative music was kind of an interesting endeavour. I recall a project where the algorithm could generate a piece of random sounds of any pitch or tambre and users would vote it as either good or bad. It sucked, but it was interesting.
There was another one that produced sheet music in the style of various periods to be performed by real people, that one actually created some really interesting, if a bit bland, music.
I remember thinking "hey maybe this could go somewhere in the future and create dynamic generative music customised to a specific person or scenario based on a theme or whatever." Boy was I wrong.
SQH will hate me for this (triply so since it's AI-generated AND King's Quest AND a cheesy 90s ballad) but I actually enjoyed the song (albeit in a mostly ironic way). :P I was laughing my ass off throughout the entire thing, it came dangerously close to Girl in the Tower's levels of cheesiness. :)
Well done to AI on being as shit (though entertainingly so) as ever!
I could never hate you, dude. 😘
I would play this.
Also... 'Graham' sounds like the narrator from the intro to Ultima Underworld.
Ah, Geseree Staken The Hearld Bonder was always my favorite part of the series
How much time did you spend on this? It's so hilariously awful. A real masterpiece
Way too long. The sprites took ages. Had to generate sprite sheets and cut out every frame individually. That's why I couldn't be bothered to do Crispin's. I've been working on/off on this since last year.
@@spacequesthistorian aha, so ai DOESN'T make you more productive after all 🤣

I'm very impressed that you've somehow managed to improve both Cedric and that ending track. Not the ruiner video I expected! I'm pretty sure the AI opening fanfare was pulled directly from The Illusionist (2006) though 😅

Too bad the singing AI didn't have "wolf that ate a muppet" as a voice to select...
No, ChatGPT wrote it for me. 😁
I never thought KQV was garbage, I first played it when I was 10 but didn't have a PC with soundblaster. I didn't hear the embarrassing voice acting for several more years. Cool vid, by the way!

I liked the SQ6 teleportation sound.
Sedric's voice is an improvement honestly.
I'm impressed with your ability to come up with new video ideas!
Thank you! I have a million ideas, most of them terrible. Some of them are kinda fun, though!
All jokes aside, some landscape looks stunning! How did you put them in the game?
There was a fork of ScummVM called ScummVMMilo that allowed you to replace all graphic and sound assets in SCI games. Not only that, but you could also replace MIDI music with MP3s, add voices to text-only games, play videos instead of cutscenes, and a lot more. Sadly, the developer took it down because he was worried about repercussions from Microsoft/Activision. But I still have it... ;)
@@spacequesthistorian great job! I remember this, I still have that too, but it's really buggy so was surprised to see such good results! Could be great if Milo will continue to work on it and we can create more things like HD remasters and etc...
You hate LOTR? Blasphemy!
Not in my upside-down world. Here it's considered a sign of good taste.
I really enjoy LOTR, but after 11 hours of hobbit melodrama between Sam and Frodo... I was done. I get the burden, I get how heroic they were, but there are certain things that make the theatrical cuts the better ones Atleast by Return of the King. Hell I wish they'd release a theatrical cut of the hobbit that's just two, two hour movies. There's a lot to like but several scenes just go on for, far too long.
@@ThePorpoisepowerYou think that's bad? The book is far worse: There is WAY too much space devoted to songs and poems, sometimes whole pages full. There are over 60 pieces of verse littered throughout the story.
forsooth and may verily, the dialogue using ye olde english was great in jockulary
The absolute dump it made of Castle Daventry is hysterical :) But I sort of love Graham and Cedric talking like they’re in Final Fantasy 12 - making it that over dramatic might make this game entertaining :)
So I was just thinking about this game, looked it up and found this video! This is incredible! Please run Monkey island 2 through an A.I thst would be awesome.
Thank you! I'm a little wary of continuing this series, given the concerns about the environmental impact of using AI (which I wasn't aware of when I made this video). But if I do, Monkey Island 2 is absolutely a prime candidate for fuckery. 😁
I wonder what Roberta Williams's thoughts about the abhorrent mutilation you performed in one of her precious games. Because I feel fucking terrified watching this, man
Roberta doesn't care about any of this. I've met her. She's made of steel. This sort of shit is beneath her.
I'm gonna have nightmares after this...
Wow, that song at the end 🤣
if you're going to fuck around with AI and a King's Quest game, 5 is definitely the one to go with
7 was close on the list but its SCI version is so much tougher to work with.
@@SporadicBenevolence I honestly doubt it could.
I'd be interested to see what abominations it could conjure from the low-res originals.
How can you call this ruined? A massive improvement on Cedric
The "A.I. Anime" at the first clip is pretty impressive. Not saying as a Corridors fan but they deserve some praises. To me, they seem to be just tinkering around with the tools they found to be fascinating at first. If anything, their "A.I. Anime" looks like a glorified CGI production which they could easily reproduce without the image generative models involved. In my humble opinion, their work has more effort put into and better compared to 99% of the lazy assholes out there that just use online generators for a image making.
Yeah, I say this defensively since those guys got harassed by almost everyone when the video came out. Sorry, just needed to get it off my chest here.
Still a better experience than King’s Quest 8
Aye forsooth verily.
Thanks, I hate it.
(Okay, I actually love it.)
Good grief! I think it's safe to say AI can't do King's Quest!
Amazing. What a great idea for a video.
Play the Sierra fanfare but class it up 12%!
Turn it to 11.
Finally, a balanced take on Lord of the Rings.
This is hilarious. Well done Indeed!
Honestly, Cedric has never sounded better.
Crispin played by John Cleese.
I like the new Cedric
I reminds me a little of Hylics, really.
muh gawd. very impressive. yay'verily !
wow!
Next step in this journey. The first ever 100% AI video game. Story written by AI. Music generated by AI. Backgrounds and sprites drawn by AI. Puzzles written by AI. Characters performed by AI. Maybe even try to get AI to code it. This will be next level terrible. It probably will not even be able to boot unless you manually rewrite all of the code. But I mean, as the esteemed developer behind All Demons Must Go To Hell, there's an obligation to outdo yourself in the future, right?
Hmm though. Not all of this is TERRIBLE. I mean it is not particularly good but some of the backgrounds look better than HQ4x. I guess that you can get technically passable artwork when you rely on training data that was stolen from genuinely talented artists (something is poetic about tech CEOs with no talent building a robot to steal the jobs of talented people. This is basically the plot of a mediocre science fiction movie)
Edit: Also the best thing generated by AI is still Harry Potter and What Looked Like a Portrait of a Large Pile of Ash. Not just is it the best AI-generated thing, it is also objectively the best Harry Potter novel.
Agree completely about the Harry Potter thing. It is, in fact, the only Harry Potter-related work anyone ever needs to read - the rest can go fuck itself like Lord of the Rings.
This is terrible. Good work!
Yeah AI might be garbage NOW, but just give it another 10 years and you'll see how truly horrible it can be.
What is wrong with you? ◐ω◑ My eyes, my ears!
Good god!
Its sad that i actually enjoyed that.
Wombo Dream is the worst possible tool you could have used for this process. The results are beautiful and terrible and speak for themselves of course.
Monstrosity.
I want to click like, but you said you don't like LoTR. We can't be friends now.
I can live with that if I don't have to watch or read Lord of the Rings.
I always thought that KQ5 had the worst voice acting (your video improved on that I think). I never did finish the game. My favourites of the series were KQ6 and KQ4, that in that order. I still own the original box with KQ1 on 5 1/4" floppies. On the box it describes the game as a 3D game, no lie. Technically, it was... you can move in 3 dimensions most of the time. heheh
"AI is stealing and bad".

Well that was the most AI thing ever. The new subtitle for the game somehow really fit
One day we'll be able to enter a randomizer seed and play a fully customized immersive AI generated game. And it will suck.
You can already tell ChatGPT to pretend to be a text adventure and it will actually do its best. It's still terrible but kind of impressive at the same time.
STILL an improvement over the original Cedric voice. (Also, final song is a legit banger.)
That said, what Cedric gains with a much more tolerable voice, he loses (or wins?!) with that one shot in the tree. Simultaneously the funniest _and_ scariest rendition imaginable.
I don't agree on your dataset morality take (watch Kirby Ferguson's "Everything is a Remix" videos and maybe you'll understand why), but I agree that most AI generations are going to be garbage purely because the barrier to entry is so low, making the "90% of everything is crud" effect way more pronounced. It's a bit similar to how a relative increase in the amount of shovelware is also a signifier that game engines have become more accessible and easier to use.
It's just regular piracy being done by giant corporations. I think we're all mostly fine with piracy on an individual level, but when it's a company with millions or billions in the bank who is doing it to massively increase their profits it feels like a scummy move. Especially when it's piracy from creators who have far fewer financial resources.
I could pirate a movie, watch it, and then delete it afterwards too. Except I'm not worth billions of dollars, only did it with a single movie, and am far more likely to be legally targeted by the owner.
@@saffral Follow this through: say you pirated a book. Then you wrote a parody of said book and decided to sell it. That'd be perfectly legal (and moral) regardless of the fact that you didn't access the original book legally -- the parody is fair use by transformation.
Considering how most non-img2img outputs from base AI models don't look much like any existing image (and yes, they can combine concepts in ways that haven't existed before, as trivially provably by repeating OpenAI's "a chair in the shape of an avocado" example), I'd say a similar degree of transformativeness has been crossed.
@@misharatkevich9808 But the act of piracy is still illegal. You could still get into legal trouble because you accessed the book illegally in the first place.
You'd think that a company supposedly valued at $80 billion would've been able to access the book in a legal fashion.
@@saffral Original data set (LAION) exists on an attempted fair use claim. IIRC there are ongoing court cases that will, among other things, also talk about whether that makes sense.
As to whether they'd able to license all of it regardless, actually no, they probably would not. LAION contains around 5 billion images, and scale is ridiculously important for AI models. I ran a quick check in a calculator before, and if licensing one image took one second (lol no way), licensing all of them would take over 150 billion years.
@@misharatkevich9808 You'd think the same argument could be used for video game piracy sites being fair use, as they're only redistributing data that is or was available on the internet.
Being important for software development doesn't sound like the kind of thing that everyone should be opted into contributing to without knowledge or consent. Of course I could say the same about the endless number of ad companies who store and sell your information with minimal or no knowledge or consent.
No surprise that opt-in is the default option for the next big thing and it takes a lot of time and effort to opt out. After all, it's all about the companies saving money. Plus making it take time and effort to opt-out costs them far less, no matter the cost for individuals.
I think maybe KQ7 was made with this process. Count the fingers.
You'd think so, but the true culprit behind KQ7 was just bad Russian animation.
Hahaha! Please do the same with SQ2 or SQ3!
i actually like the rip of phil colins at the end
*riff
Apart from the thinly-veiled insults about Graham being a wet dog, and Cedric taking out his ASS... The ending song was actually GOOD. Was that composed by someone, or did the AI actually do something RIGHT for a change??
That was Udio. My friend Adrian Edmark did a few passes and stitched together the results.
I've been watching a lot of AI generated stuff like this lately.
I can sum it all up in one question asked by Dr. Weird in Aqua Teen Hunger Force: "WHAT HAS SCIENCE DoOoOoNnNnE?!?"
Wow this is incredible.
bruh AI is amazing. i know we are old now but that doesnt mean you have to turn into the stereotypical old dude that shakes his fist at the sky and rues technology.
aaaaand the "AI steals content" argument is obviously ridiculous. if AI steals content then so has everyone who ever read a book, listened to music, or looked at a painting before producing something of their own, which is literally everyone who has ever lived and ever will live.
and if you are really just selflessly worried about people's ability to earn money and put food in their mouth, then you should shake your fist at a social structure that leaves people to languish in poverty and uncertain circumstances, not shake your fist at the existence of a mathematical algorithm that will exist no matter whether people are right or wrong to love it or hate it
Now again, but with more sadness.
AI art isn't plagurism or theft, its use of copyrighted material falls under fair use. Its all legal and above board. That's why AI tools can just admit it, as well.
You can also download and run the open source Stable Diffusion for free and locally, but your PC needs some beef. You're paying cloud services to run AI on their own beefy PCs and do all the hard stuff, basically.
AI voice work does have ethical issues, but to do with impersonation and not copyright.
edit: this thread sucks
Then explain why I can't just download all the movies and music for free without anyone coming after me over copyright. Surely it's fair use for me to download and watch them without offering any recompense to the owner? Especially if I delete them after, that'll mean I never ever did anything wrong along the way, right?
Which AI company is paying you?
@@beavinator Stable Diffusion I'd imagine if anyone, as that's the one that was name dropped, but realistically nobody and it's just someone with feelings in a different direction. One day we'll get to the point where the comments are just from the various AIs all trying to advertise their products, but until then it's probably mostly people who aren't paid.
@@saffral I wouldn't be so sure. I recently went down a rabbit hole about bot presence on the internet. It's larger than you think, and it's growing exponentially. Some researchers predict that within 5 years, 90% of all internet traffic will be bots. I know it sounds like science fiction but the facts are backing it up. You literally have no idea if the person you're talking to is really a person or not. In this case, I think it's probably a real person, but they are either being paid, or have REALLY swallowed some lines about AI...what other reason would anyone say anything as ridiculous and disprovable as "AI art isn't plagiarism" (and egregiously misspell it)?
@@saffral I'm anti-copyright anyway, and I think downloading movies like that is awesome.
But that's not a good simile for a GAN, which is legal.
Are you familiar with an artwork named Kopimashin? Its one of my faves. Check it out when you get the chance.
.
ok u got me, im being paid by the ceo of "copy that floppy"
I usually love your videos, but this one's too propagandistic for me. Like... yeah, sure, anyone can find some outdated, off-label text-to-voice and image-to-image models, mash them up with a cheesy, purposely bad script from a two-year-old GPT-3.5, and create an abomination. It seems less designed to entertain than to poison your audience against AI, though... Hence, the nine minute soapbox intro.
Combine with the lukewarm, very European opinions about AI... and the lukewarm opinions about King's Quest V... and the lukewarm opinions about Lord of the Rings... and yeah, this one just didn't do it for me.
If you think pointing out the very real and somewhat frightening problems with AI is "propaganda", you seriously need to do some research.
I found it entertaining, but I do agree that there are much better AI tools that could have been used here, and with much better results. Even with this one the landscapes were actually nice. I think it's actually possible to create an entire high-quality remaster of a game like this using AI tools if done properly.
@@The8bitbeard Maybe I'm alone here but I do not at all want a "remaster" of a classic game I loved that was created by running the original through an AI that would tweak the graphics. Even the remasters done by actual artists struggle to find a reason to exist...the game is not automatically made better just by being higher res. But I'd take a remaster done by an artist who made it out of love for the game over one done by an AI any day.
@@beavinator Oh agreed. I prefer the originals and I think some things should just be left alone and not messed with. However I think you COULD if you really wanted to, and with the state of AI tools it could be quality.
The point I was trying to make here was to show what happens if some dingbat just uses whatever tools are free(ish) and readily available with no regards for quality control. I didn't touch up anything, nor did I re-render any prompts once I got a shot I thought was suitable. The point wasn't to make it ugly from start to finish; it was to show what happens when someone carelessly leaves everything in the hands of machines.
