    Not only shows masking between two sources. It also works when some bands of the signal mask others parts from itself. Quite innovative tool!
    For example, a loud/long bass tone masking some quiet low-mid sound.
    As shown in the manual, this somewhat informs you what bands are going to lose resolution during data compression that use a perceptual approach to select wich information to preserve (ie. mp3).
    It's also interesting that masked parts of the signal actually vanish instead of increase in luminosity (as most of the "clashing frequencies" analyzers do; proQ, neutron...)
    Quote from the manual: "Semi transparent columns indicate which auditory bins are actively masked."

    I do most of the Tasks with Trackspacer or soothe, so that it's done automatically and dynamic. But it's nice to have this one as a free alternative.

    • @Beatsbasteln
      @Beatsbasteln  8 місяців тому

      yeah that's true

    • @if2086
      @if2086 7 місяців тому +1

      Not the same thing at all. This tool (and a more advanced Melda MultiAnalyzer) just shows which frequencies are clashing. Soothe and co won't show this. Those are more like dynamic EQs. You don't always need to supress the clashing frequencies with the dynamic EQs, because if you do, your music will sound very unnatural and almost pumping. So in many situations it is better to reduce the annoying frequencies ones and forever, rather than compressing them using a sidechain signal.

    • @Beatsbasteln
      @Beatsbasteln  7 місяців тому +1

      @@if2086 that's why soothe has that pre-eq which lets you choose which harmonics you wanna consider for the surpression. this plugin does not surpress or process the sound in any way, but it informs the user so they can use it to manually do something similiar with a dynamic eq of choice

      Anyways, Melda MultiAnalizer can do more than this, with a less sexier interface, but with more tweakings and features under the hood (it can show as many channels as you want, not just two). But I do use Prism just as an ordinary frequency analyzer on a single channel.

      @Beatsbasteln  8 місяців тому +1

      not my main eq, no. i don't like that the filters can't go very wide. but for this usecase narrow filters were alright, so i enjoyed some saturation on my filters :)

    Can you tell me how you set up the input + sidechain step by step? Trying to do it in my DAW by the manual for this plug-in is confusing. Vielen dank!

    • @Beatsbasteln
      @Beatsbasteln  8 місяців тому +1

      sure. you put an instance on the track where you suspect a change is needed. then you route audio from another track into the plugin's sidechain input. routing sidechain works differently in each DAW. just search for a specific tutorial on that. then in the plugin you can tell at least one of the curves to come from the sidechain input

    Do you have pro-q 3? - frequency masking display is here too, but you can look at multiple channels at the same time. However, great feature to have in a free plugin 😀Have you tried any of the new filter plugins from TDR?

      @Beatsbasteln  8 місяців тому +1

      i likely tried a little too hard to use this feature in this video. but when it comes to things with such a subtle impact on the mix as frequency masking tools i'd rather go a little too hard to make the effect obvious to the viewer than to keep everyone guessing if they've heard the difference at all

      i didn't look at the other plugins too closely yet, but it looked like they were made for specific usecases (like lowend design) and came with unusual filter architectures because of that. could be cool but idk
