      @@LetsTrainMartialArts Fantastic. I also really like BJJ, but there is no club here. In fact, BJJ is quite different from Ju Jutsu The first is from Brazil (although created by an old Ju Jutsuka from Japan) and essentially focuses on Ne Waza. The second are some empty hands techniques practiced by the Samourais from Japan. It has atemi (striking), Nage (throwing) and Ne Waza.
      To make it simple: BJJ is the Brazillian version of the ancient JJ, just like Judo is the modern version of JJ. I will be uploading some videos about in the next weeks. Hope you will aprreciate them too.

    Great instruction! Very important, as you said, not to draw back on your opening strike, a trained fighter will advance on you because you pose no danger, after all you are moving the stick away from them and not towards them like you should. Same with baseball bat, if D&T allow, block his arms while he is winding up for a swing. If you are too far away, then lean/step back to let the swing through then enter on his recovery.

      I use to spar with my stick out infront of me and my more advanced partners would always see it coming so I had to change that 😂

    When you commented about "casting" 45:18 it made me think of another video I saw about stick fighting. The point was made that if you use a stick like a sword you limit the capabilities of the stick. By allowing the wrist to turn over as the arm extends, the tip of the stick takes a more curved line to the target and is able to pass by or "get around" the guard. Not meant to be contradictory to your instruction, just an interesting take that I've never seen before.

      Thanks for sharing 🙏 I agree that there are differences to the technique that must be done when training with the mindset you’re using a sword vs stick.

      @@LetsTrainMartialArts Will this help with unarmed combat like throwing punches and different strikes? Basically does this have carryover? Thanks for the time.

    • @LetsTrainMartialArts
      @LetsTrainMartialArts  10 місяців тому

      @@Inatightpinch yes it has carry over into unarmed, but not as much as just learning striking 🤷🏻‍♂️One of the things that this series will teach that will carry over is being able to move and strike at the same time. But to me Kali is a weapons style and that’s what I’ll be focusing on.

  • @johnabelcher

    Thank you for the videos! Do you have a question on angle one strike, on the confused on how the white weight distribution works on that one, cuz I see how you're moving your your hips like do I lean more to the back leg or four leg or do I try to do like equal amount of weight on both?
    Cuz I'm naturally leaning back and then moving the weight forward as I strike. But it seems like your feet are doing the opposite and I'm just kind of mentally like what lol

    • @LetsTrainMartialArts
      @LetsTrainMartialArts  3 місяці тому +1

      Typically if you are striking with your right hand, you will transfer around 80% of your weight to your left leg.
      Try to think about if you’re doing a forehand strike then you press off the ground with your right leg and transfer weight into your left leg. And the opposite is true for a backhand strike. Hope this helps

    question about chambering - I get that you can have more force in your strikes with the longer movement, but doesn't it somewhat telegraph where your next attack will come from? Is it more of a drill thing than an actual sparring/fighting technique?

    • @LetsTrainMartialArts
      @LetsTrainMartialArts  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes and no. Yes because if I was in a chambered position and I just executed a single direct attack then me starting in a chamber position would telegraph the most likely angle that would be used. But when we start to layer in different types of attacks and changes in tempo as well as counter offensive even a chambered attack can become unpredictable. Another reason that we go to chamber positions is because I can just attack. If I were to have my weapon in front of me, in order to strike I would need to retract it and then do the strike (this is for strikes only not thrusts) upon drawing the weapon back prior to the strike my opponent could also read that as a telegraph. When I stick spar I use a mixture between painting (constantly moving from one chamber to another) and holding a chamber position. I usually hold a position if my opponent is also holding a chamber and when I’m at distance or trying to bait I’ll be painting.
      Hope this helps some

    Your low load (with blade side down) requires a twist when you do an upward diagonal strike. Were you to be using a bolo, that would mean your edge might hit the opponent at an angle. Practice with an edged weapon more. Try cutting banana trunks.
