- Stefan Baumann Putting More Into Your Paintings, This video is about Stefan Baumann Plein air and alla prima artist Stefan Baumann, host of the PBS painting series “The Grand View: America’s National Parks through the Eyes of an Artist” and author of “The Grand View: Observations Of Art and Nature,” travels in his vintage travel trailer painting America’s western landscape. Baumann paints outdoors with oils and canvas capturing stunning vistas, wildlife, western landscapes, National Parks and still life, thrilling art collectors throughout the world. He has many international collectors acquiring his paintings as investments. His painting style is called Romantic Realism with Luminism and he the extraordinary way he captures the effect of light is a truly an American Style used to paint the Western Landscape. He can be seen painting in Yellowstone, Yosemite and in the Grand Canyon. Baumann’s “how to paint” DVDs filmed on location in the National Parks are the very best on the market.
I am completely blown away listening to Mr. Baumann speak. Incredible subject matter knowledge, good speaker. I'm glad I found his channel. All students no matter what field should have teachers like this man. Excellent lecture. Thank you.

Kudos not only to the excellent lecture by Stefan, but also to the artist that painted the landscape being critiqued. I find taking criticism so hard, especially on something so public as a UA-cam video, but there's no better way to learn. I'd love to know if the artist worked on this painting more and how it ended up. It is a beautiful start.

I really like how you present a well rounded lecture. By that I mean it's the way you relate technique, history, famous artists, technology, mediums and bring it all together to create a vision of what to strive for in modern day paintings.

You have to make many paintings, because not all of them can be Mona Lisa's. Use some of your failed pieces as testers for finishing effects. You practice your effects on little panels, always trying new things till perfect. Once you can do sky's, waves, rocks, and objects at a distance, you combine your efforts by composing a larger painting. Lifetime of work here I come.

Interesting view on seeing something versus looking. Are you saying to paint the 'idea' of the object versus it's physical look? Also using scale as a play to make the picture just wrong looking enough to make it interesting? Love your work.

looks like a lot of time and work went into this painting only to have it all fall apart with the background. The lighthouse and building around it are awful... better if it was all left out... the top left sky area is way too light and not only makes no sense but destroys the design.
If all of the sky was kept dark and gloomy and they got rid of the green on the cliffs this could of turned out to be a dramatic painting... but hey... there's always gesso.
Well That is your opinion.. What makes you an expert on painting, as I see it you don't have anything on your channel and google does not show you as a viable artist.
