I've learned more from these videos than all the painting tutorials put together on youtube. Fabulous lesson. Thank you for making these lessons available for free.
I started painting a year ago and i've been watching and learning from your videos Mr. Baumann. Till this day whenever i paint, your voice is always somewhere in back of my head instructing me about what to do and what not to do. Thank You sir, Your videos made me the artist what i am today.
Please visit Perth .,Western Australia !! I have been glued to your lessons ! You explain and get the point across in a wonderful manner. Kind regards Mark Price.
As one of your students I have found that what I have learned from you has been so fantastic. I am not much of a drawer but learning to use the tools you are teaching has sure helped. The proportional divider has been so helpful for all of the types of painting, still life, landscape painting, copying a photo.
I like this discussion very much. I'm not particularly art informed, I just like to paint. I remember the first Rembrandt painting, not the content, but I was enthralled by the light and dark contrasts. I didn't know why that rather than the 'things'; in the painting appealed to me more.T hat memory has stayed with me and I'm still fascinated by how just a shadow can give a different feel, can make a painting more interesting. Thanks for an informative, lively discussion.
Stefan I went to Mc Donald's with my son! I had a great McCoffee!! Still the teaching is great! I am hoping someone teaches me how to create my own tiny house!!
What is before our eyes is the raw materials from which we can use to build an image to communicate a thougth that will change someone's life, starting with mine. Pick them up and use them. My question is, where do you get those cool shirts?
Painting things that are now gone is so true. My home towns main st got re generated and turned into the most obnoxious street. I wish i had painted it before they did that.
It drives me nuts that your students don't do their homework painting. I'd be planning it in my head as soon as you said it, lol! That last painting really was great! 🍟🍔
Stefan Baumann here's an interesting concept...take a wrinkled piece of paper towel and lay it on surface...draw out any and all face figures one can see from the shadows of the paper towel...fun...
it looks like a lot of the students do a one tone paintings in spite of you mentioning light, dark, focal point, on every image. maybe you should reference songs and the differences between the high notes vs the low notes.
These paintings are all brilliant. Perhaps I will paint a traditional English Breakfast, as it seems to go out of fashion with everybody being so health conscious over here.
too bad we couldn't take your classes online ... take digital images of our results and share them with you on ss media etc ... I was just thinking about how I would have painted the "burger, fries and coke"
Acacia Rogers Art hi, I believe Stefans classes are in San Jose California...here is his website with contact info...have a wonderful experience if you attend... www.stefanbaumann.com
+Victor Charlie...your comment is suggestive ..your not getting it...your not seeing the big picture...listen...art is not just painting what you see...it's about what you see...hint...expressive...
Light tone and shadow, try to stay off the line. There is more than outline and local colour. Line is an artificial mean to show were two surfaces meet. Step back and see the whole in life drawing.
Oh man..your class is so noisy. Cant they just be more quieter and listen to you. If i was blessed to be present in ur class i would just shut up and take notes...and maybe just ask a few questions or clarifications.
It's interesting how you focus both on "painting what you see" and the "effect of light". The only thing anyone ever sees is light. You can't see things. When there is no light, you see only black; you see nothing . The only thing you can see is the reflection or lack of light bouncing off of things. Painting what you see and painting light is the same thing.
This is teaching, not focusing on technique but make people think as an artist should. Really useful video!
Thanks
I have taken ten college-level art courses and I've learned more from this one video than I had with the ten courses. Thank you so much!
You so welcome
Thanks for making these videos freely available worldwide Stephan. It's fantastic teaching and it's like being in the classroom. I'm learning so much.
Im inspired that you like them

Such an excellent reminder and fun discussion about how to make a great painting using anything as a subject. BRING ON THE WIERD!

Such a great teacher. ❣️
Love your painting and style! Beautiful as always. Your explanation of things you have to stay focused on when painting as well. Yoka S.
Im glad you like my videos
We were painting our fish and chips in art school back in the 70's. Giuseppe Verdi wrote La Traviata.
What is before our eyes is the raw materials from which we can use to build an image to communicate a thougth that will change someone's life, starting with mine. Pick them up and use them. My question is, where do you get those cool shirts?

Thank you very much for your teaching ,
I'm way late here but is that painting of the American flag, cheeseburger, coke and fries available for purchase?
It drives me nuts that your students don't do their homework painting. I'd be planning it in my head as soon as you said it, lol!
That last painting really was great! 🍟🍔
Don't be to mad but thanks for letting them know
You are such a great teacher! Wish I was one of your students, although I have learned a great deal from watching your videos
There are so much more that I wish I had more time to put up content
G'day Stefan, I enjoy your passion, your videos and great content.
thanks

Shadows and highlights. Lighting. Contrast. Great!
You're outstanding for sure! Have a wonderful weekend. Yoka
Thanks

There's one student (it sounds like the same one) that seems so argumentative. I don't understand why that is.
Just got this HW assigned to me in the remote sessions and hilarious that I am watching it while painting my burger fries and a "coke"
One more thing - emotion and googly things. . .exactly!!!
16:25 jere she should have said the triangel form,at least that would be one way of showing a focal point
Student: I get confused
Stefan: I know. I do too. Don't feel bad. Everybody does.
That was hilarious!
These paintings are all brilliant. Perhaps I will paint a traditional English Breakfast, as it seems to go out of fashion with everybody being so health conscious over here.
life is art, life is also now.
A white undershirt?! I think this is a first for me
I have never seen a masterpiece.
I get what your saying at its deepest level
Thanks for your observation
too bad we couldn't take your classes online ... take digital images of our results and share them with you on ss media etc ... I was just thinking about how I would have painted the "burger, fries and coke"
Try some of my private coaching
Thanks

I LOVE ALL THE BUGGES FASS A APPLE FOWERS
Am I the only one who saw the green power puff girl in the still life that's in the thumbnail.
for me the shadow is what I saw first
he teaches more about life than art.
I hope that is good, Life Is Art

She "never heard you say that" because they talk the entire time you do and are incredibly rude... Your patience is something to be desired.

But feels like the focus is the flag not the burger or anything from McDonald
