    Fun fact: a cinematic camera is already "fully" implemented, it's obtainable in devmode in survival via ''/camera'', you set waypoints which the camera will travel along via q i think and then with left click (maybe) you start a tour through these. Quite fun to mess around with

    Aaaaw man, time to get the hype for chapter 2 revived. I am unfathomably excited at the sheer vastness of innovation, slowly approaching from afar. BUT it's still important to keep in mind that with that level of commitment to new ideas the devs should be given their time, if you have never programmed before it's easy to underestimate the time investment

    When the wedge is created you can scale them like blocks but it requires the more wedges for larger scaled wedge blocks, the saw bot just lets you make custom wedges

    maybe the new component kits work more like dark soul's titanite, where the higher levels require a higher "tier" of material, so let's say the first 3 upgrades use component kits and the rest use the super component kits, adding more stuff to keep track of, aside from also being needed for certain crafts (probably the new bots), idk

      @@burtard3983 most likely they come from the trash bot, and/or harder bots in the underground, and are used in the new equipment.
      perhaps even sticky wheels can be upgraded for efficiency and stickiness, which could explain an older devblog where a gif showed the wheels failing and falling vs another effortlessly scaling a building.
      could even open the floor for upgraded tiers of the hammer and guns.

      Try Fant mod. He has a thing called a Unit Facer that can be mouse controlled and powers bearings.

    The last gif probably shows some of the modding possibilities. Notice gow the parts attach themselves to the creation a while after being fired. I think that's a great demonstration of how many new things modders will be able to achieve

      Except you cant really customise the looks at all, and because you can't add armor either it's gonna suck for tank battles.

      @@lich.possum because the armor would have to go up and down in the hull due to the nature of the attachment point on the seat, so in any case you're compromising some of your protection. Plus, you won't be able to stabilise the gun.

    For the turret seat there should be 3 options apart from tuning, first the normal turret with camera, but also a button to have the camera fixed while being able to use the seat and the other way around.

    i have an awesome idea you gota do. back when you did high seas, and used your sub to jump out of the water into the wind. the wind shot you back at almost 500 miles per hour. my point. you should try to break the sound barrier by jumping unto the wind with a bunch of sails on your creation.

      There would be too much drag in the water and if he used hinges, they wouldn’t hold the sails when in the wind

      @@bigface1352 their will be no drag if the sails are parallel with the direction of his momentum. plus, if he jumps out of the water vertically, no hinges will be needed to hold the sails, and it will increase the efficiency by 100%. he can also use detachable blocks to get rid of anything that would be useless when out of the water.

    You could probably make a mouse-controlled plane if you just put a stick on the end of the turret seat and used sensors to activate different thrusters depending on where the stick is aiming.

    18:11 - I think they were taking a creative mode cinematic tool as a given, as survival and challenge modes would be the ones where there would be an element of uncertainty due to implementation difficulties, in survival as a procurement balancing challenge/"how does this fit into the plot?" challenge, and challenge mode as a "how do we stop people from cheating using this tool?" Problem.

    Really excited for chapter 2. Saving blueprints in survival would be awesome and some optimization would be greatly appreciated for larger vehicles. I tried making a scissor lift to get on top of the warehouses but 2 story ones were all I could manage without crushing lag or bearings collapsing.

    1:26 i believe that the turret seat is controlled by the camera movement, because as seen in the videos (go back a few seconds), the camera was moving all over the place, and the turret was always pointing away from the camera

    honestly respect its hard for "smaller" more niche games and their studios to gain any insane popularity boosts when they hold content in till its super polished. often larger company's get backlash for doing that. But I think this update will add an insane amount more content. And even if it doesn't bring in many new players I think that Axolot are happy to give content to all the people still playing the game they love to develop.

    I really want to build a vehicle that uses sensors to turn itself in the direction of the camera, then some how use an A/D converter to make the vehicle strafe left and right. It would theoretically control exaclty like a classic fps character would. I can imagine the mechs on the workshop now...

    I've been hoping that they'd make seats with different functionality like that eventually. I hope they also make another that looks like a box cab, that lets you manipulate other parts differently too. Like it would affect some parts like the controller block would in different ways maybe? A controller chair?

    i believe its going to be Volume related you might get double the amount of wedge blocks in relation to normal block and if you drag them out its probably going to take away the blocks that this Volume would take up

    I agree. This turret seat allows lots and lots of things.
    I think it will have a torque limit, like it will not be allowed to move heavy things easly or event it can't. So lets wait to see how it is.
    And this makes usefull the mountable spud gun, otherwise its complicated to use it.

    Well, you can weld anything to the front of the seat, so making pitch or roll camera controlled might be possible with sensors and sketchy workarounds

    Something I noticed in the last gif: it looks like they slightly modified the red tint when you scale to delete a material. It seems to have a lined pattern when it's obstructed. Both the wall obstructing the righ edge and a flying part going in front of it show this

    Would love to see...
    - Block mounting points on the turret that are only on the rotational (left and right) axis for aid in making tank turret armor.
    - Cinematic camera for creative mode. Seems like an easy add if it exists in other game modes.
    - Better mod support for survival like there is for creative mode etc.
    Can't wait for this update to drop though.

    You mentioned aircraft dogfights and while that might not work very well you could have a normal bomber plane with rear gunner turrets to shoot at players in fighter planes

    I can see the devs making the turret seat big and bulky so that it's harder to hide and easier for Tape Bots to shoot at. Having armored turrets would make most survival encounters a liiittle too easy.

      @@Mango_Eter True, it would be nice. Though I think the Dev's want players to be able to aim at things with whatever weapon of mass destruction is mounted to the turret seat but still have it completely exposed so that bots still have a chance to fight back and ruin your day.

      @@SuperTy1122 yeah, and I understand that from a balancing perspective, but it would've been great for creative tank builders like me to have vanilla mouse aiming without needing to make a giant ocelating ball turret. Maybe having a separate creative only turret seat or smthn could be nice. But I'll have fun experimenting with it either way.

    I believe the wedges will be the same kind of stacks as the bocks are in the inventory, but can be only made to wedges as opposed to rectangular slabs. So, when you feed a single block into the machine, it outputs either one or two wedge blocks which you can use to make either two 1x1x1 wedges or one 1x2x1 wedge dragging similarly as regular blocks. Why 1:1 or 1:2 ratio exchange ratio on the machine? Because those are the only ones that would make any sense. 1:2 would give the same volume of material out as the input is, which would make the wedges free. 1:1 would give only half the material back which is a cist that would also make sense and also work well if you input only one block at a time. Larger ratios than those would not make sense because it would output more material than you put in and smaller would not work either as inputting only one block would give back something that is smaller than a block which does not make sense in scrap mechanic. Of course, there are easy ways to fix that issue but it would also make the cost way too high. Three or more blocks just for 1x1x1 wedge is way too high cost.

    my guess is the saw bot turns one block into 2 1x1 wedges. literally just slice them in half diagonally.
    and you can drag stacks of 1x1 wedges into different wedge shapes which, instead of making squares, always form a right angle triangle from your start point to end point.
    or basically always form the diagonal half of the drag able wall you would normally make with blocks.
    so instead of a max size 256, 16x16 square, it would be a wall of 128 wedges which is 16 x 16 on the bottom and side with a diagonal hypotenuse.

    Hey scrapman, before you forget about this if you even see this comment. I would like to point out that you mentioned dogfighting. And with that comes this idea. 3-4 person dogfights. How you could use this seat is alot of past WW2 era planes like bombers had these ball shaped turrets on their bottoms and sometimes tops or even sides. And you could potentially have a 2 person + bomber crew in cardboard surviving against others in planes designed to try and tear it down. All of them having limited lives, so if the bomber goes down. That's it. Fighters win. If the fighters get taken down. Perhaps they are allowed respawns due to the size comparison. Idk just an idea. Maybe you'd be interested

    Technically you should be able to use the seat for plane controls. You could use sensors to activate pitch and yaw. It might look a bit weird though.

    Super excited about that turret seat. I wish they'd trickle stuff out to us a bit more. I definitely agree with ScrapMan that the *bigness* of some of these objects (bots, seat, etc.) is a problem. Particularly the bigness vs. the size of wheels and suspension and performance tuning.

    having the optimization improvement makes me think of the original optimization that they first made. i think it was either spycakes or luapthegreat who had a saloon that was originally super laggy and after it was smooth. if remember correctly it was the same update or very close to it that added the weld tool. this also reminds me of the first multiplayer Monday and they did sprocket league. i think that was luap, SM,, squid, and i cant remember the rest (i know there were 6 and it was a 3v3). man that was so long ago

    If it’s a mouse controlled turret it will either work with the weight difference or we will be able to make actual mouse controlled airplanes because it will be a static attachment point and the moving attachment point

    For aircraft, put it on the bottom like a b37 ball turret (which might actually be the inspiration for the seat considering it looks a lot like it)

    You missed a little details, on the last gifs that you said was chaotic, you can see them dragging to delete the blocks but looking closer, you can see a "half-toned" effect or some kinds to show the covered sides of the blocks being deleted.

    With turret seats and some freerolling bearings one can make a tank seat with the help of pistons and explosives, bc i have a feeling that the seat is 5*5*6 (length*width*height)

    16:57 it would be nice if you could maybe buy or trade more stuff like this for different vehicles like maybe mining vehicle or maybe some vehicle that was used by farmers before the events of scrap mechanic

    They should add a camera block that would act like a different spot for the maine camera so you can have it on top of a spud gun and see closer

    If you look at the first person gif of the turret seat, you can see the camera tilting in the seat. Thus they have already fixed it.
