What The Hell Happened To Destruction Derby?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 сер 2024
- The Destruction Derby series was fun, it was received well, and it even could be considered a bit of a pioneer when it comes to realistic car damage and crash physics. So why aren’t we seeing more Destruction Derby games anymore? Why has this series given way to completely different franchises? What the hell happened to the Destruction Derby series?
Man i miss Destruction Derby Arenas. I remember how badly i wanted this game as a kid, i always had to play the damn demo over and over again.
Happened to get DD arenas for PS 2 for Christmas in like 2008? Was so much fun
Destruction Derby 2 was unreal back in the day.
That was my all time favorite when I was little.
was such a huge jump from dd 1 to dd 2. No game today has such an imprfovement
Ive only played the first one, i never knew there was a second or third
@@Messerschmitt_BF_109G_10 u missed out something
I still play that game
Ur just driving metal
Wreckfest is so good. Well worth picking up if you liked destruction derby
Even if you don't it's worth it
I like to think of it as a spiritual successor to the Destruction Derbys
@@bigt72gmc me too!
Pc version mods dd 1 and 2 all cars and most tracks
I did not like wreckfest. I felt like the upgrades took a lifetime to afford
I love Destruction Derby Arenas. I played it for HOURS on end. I love how the characters have stories and their stories even match up with the other characters. I just got a PS2 recently for Christmas and this was one of the first games I got. So nostalgic
Honestly i'd say Destruction Derby Raw is criminally underrated, the soundtrack slaps, theres tons of variety in tracks and arenas, tons of variety in cars. My favorite childhood memory alongside the driver series
DDRaw's entire damn problem is how awful the suspension and steering is, both are so horrible they borderline killed the franchise
@@DiegoRuiz1991 back in the day i saw it as a challenge to master rather than a problem, i guess im in the minority on this
@@DeutscheDemokratischeRepublik I don't think you're in the minority, as many driving games had bad controls then, & you had to master them to be good at the games.
Raw is one of my favorite games of all time. such a damn good game.
@@DiegoRuiz1991
Same as Flatout 3&4 killed the franchise.
Destruction Derby 2 is one of my favorite racing games of all time, and the soundtrack is also AMAZING!
Man I was just thinking about this game a few days ago. Watching this footage takes me back to middle school and the excitement of the ps1 launch.
Destruction Derby 2 is still one of my favorite games of all time. Booting it up today still brings me as much joy as it did back than when it got released.
Man I still remember playing destruction derby arenas on ps2
me too
I played the HELL outta the second one.. and now I'm playing Wreckfest. It's pretty good.
Can you guys please do a What the Hell Happened video for Syphon Filter?
It got called wreckfest !

“HE’S WAAAAY OUT IN FRONT!!!”
Destruction derby arena one of my favorite game and still I play this game in 2021
Wreckfest is definately the next best thing destruction derby wise, its being updated monthly as well.
Next? It blows this game out off the water. Not even close...
@@NathanChisholm041 Well Wreckfest is probably what DD would've looked like if they didn't stop being made.
People thinks too much about Wreckfest because of Flatout which are both totally different games . Even between Flatout 1 and 2 it's different. The first Flatout is the real simulator wheras the second Flatout is more of a game . And Wreckfest falls into being inbetween and compared to Flatout 2 , Wreckfest is slow paced to be honest .
I don't count Flatout 2 : Ultimate Carnage as being a new game since it's Flatout 2 with better graphics as for many bugs they haven't removed them as the game itself became more easier and was more there for the console players . They added some slight new stuff like 4 new bot drivers and 2 new cars that were already present in Flatout 1 ( Grinder & Bonecracker ) .
DD 1 and 2 need a remake!
Wreckfest its a similar thing.
@@Victor_2000s wreckfest is great but still no Destruction derby. DD is more arcade. While wreckfest is more between realism and arcade.
@@gamingunit Have Flatout 1, 3 and Ultimate Carnage that is arcade.
in my opinion, like Grip is a successor to rollcage, Wreakfest is a successor to Destruction Derby
Wreckfest is more of a successor to Flatout though, seeing as how its developed by the original developers, Bugbear.
@@OmgItsLeaa And Flatout a sucessor of Destruction Derby.
@@OmgItsLeaaNot Flatout more Destruction Derby to say the least
Played DDA today with my 4y/o son. Felt like 14 again and the game is still great!
Wreckfest happened.
Booo
I played it as a kid on PS1 :D

Destruction Derby Arena was so much fun! I'm sad I couldn't figure out how to be online to play it there, bet it'd been a ton of fun. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the upgrades (which was as far as I knew perma additions but maybe I was just dumb), but otherwise the car designs being so unique yet awesome looking, back to the interesting drivers and the tracks and arenas being all the crazier, made me love it! Also loved how all of them were themed after a car/driver as the "champion" of them.
Overall, while it was way more arcadey, I loved it, had a lot of charm and the pick ups reminded me of Rumble Racing or the Hot Wheels game but just the Destruction Derby formula ontop.
Check the back cover of the game and you see a screenshot of a scrapped feature, car customization was supposedly to be a thing but they ditched it right before release, even though the US version (I think) came out a few months later as the European version and for some reason they did not remove the screenshot from the back cover on that version.
Please do a vid on the Myth series. The first two were so incredible, and while the third had some major issues, was still a blast to play, and had some intense story integration. Loved those games so much, and always wanted to see another entry in the series.
Destruction Derby Arenas was my go to game as a kid in PS2, I still play it 10 years later on my PC, altough I still do have the disc and working PS2 still.
Destruction Derby Arenas was my childhood game, I played it day in day out. I'd recommend the new Carmageddon: Max Damage if you enjoyed Arenas. It was like the natural progression for me from Arenas and is a decent game to turn your brain off and enjoy derby based car combat.
Destruction Derby Arenas is my favorite, I still play it from time to time, wish I could've played it online back in the day! And man, if they just did a remake of that!
Need them to remaster or some
remember that track that had the giant jump off the top of the hill, what a game
You forget the Driver series Reflections, shifted their focus to a GTA in 3D before GTA 3. DMA design and Rockstar took the spotlight and even took a dug at Driver by spoofing him in-game in a mission.
Destruction Derby 64 was not a port but an original game in the series. I played it enough to unlock every car and beat nearly every event and race. One vehicle that had wood paneling was too slow and too brittle to compete. Raw was quite too good but as stated came out too late along with that Vigilante 8 Star Wars game
I loved the first one back in the day. It was simple but fun trying not to wreck or get spun around. The physics were great.
Destruction derby Raw was my childhood
If you've played Driver Parallel Lines then you know that a part of the Destruction Derby franchise lived on a bit longer past the PS1. In parallel lines you can go to several race tracks and it is totally reminiscent of Destruction Derby. A game inside another game.
I played a lot of Destruction Derby Arena at the PS2, I like the game very much. Also I played a lot of Destruction Derby 2 at the PS1, I feel those two games are very good and fun. I did not enjoy Destruction Derby 1 and Raw so much. To bad they didn continue at the PS3 and futher. Still hope ;)
When Destruction Derby Raw came out, I instantly went out & bought it. I wish they'd continued to make sequels.
loved the second one. I Remember playing this with a joystick on a Pewntium 1 with 133mhz
DD Raw was the best out of the three though, awesome car sounds, kickass music, fun game modes and great physics. I especially liked the skyscraper mode
Destruction derby arenas was one of my favorite games ever made. Most people I've seen online hated it but I thought it was amazing
Same, I love the charachters and their dialogues, and ofcourse the over the top race tracks with ramps powerups.
"...OHHHHHH... TOTAL DESTRUCTION"
_Tokyo Jungle_ What The Actual Feck Happened!?
I found destruction derby arena at a convenient store in northern Michigan and at the time I never heard of the series but that was my top 5 racing games for my ps2 bar none but my disk broke and I couldn't find another copy i still have the broken disk as a memory of the epic game.
Why wasn't there mention of the best Destruction Derby game made? Destruction Derby 64.
Where is the remake? With the Switch, the least they could do is remake this game for the Switch console
I miss these games. DD2 was the best one IMO. I always wondered what happened to the DD games and now I know.
the physics bloow me away back then
The new car physics were very impressive back in the 1990s because nothing like that had been seen yet,(on concole/PC).
Xmas 95 baby. When PS1 came out from holiday onward we had fun diverse experimental classic games that just kept on coming ,
nobody was waiting like they do nowdays. 95 was a little dry for a month or two post-launch but every month of 1996 - 2000 was special.
We already had Tekken , Wipeout , Warhawk , Jumping Flash , Gameday , ESPN Xtreme Games , and Twisted Metal for Xmas 1995.
Say what you want about these games but the bottom line Is they were *fun* and all felt different . 3D had no real copycat formulas
or genre rules. AAA games were just as experimental as low-budget , It was a pure Industry and nobody had a sure design scheme
they could lazily imitate. Devs were free to be risky , but gamers were also more forgiving and open to trying new things back then.
Another key Ingredient was msuic and soundtracks , music In games used to be so good It was rare to not hear a memorable soundtrack ,
you would honestly wanna listen to alot of games music back then just as much as play It.
Wow this brings back some awesome memories! Love destruction derby 2
I put so many hours into Destruction Derby: Arenas as a kid it makes an average Fortnite Twitch Streamer look like a joke.
Except the funny part is, I had a huge issue with actually understanding how manual saving worked back then. So I know every inch, every quirk of the first few levels of that game like the back of my hand.
I finally did manage to make a save and beat though. Took me, a very, very long time.
It became wreckfest
I want another Demolition Racer, I always liked it more. It's like a mix of Destruction Derby and Burnout.
Demolition Racer was amazing game. I had it on a demo and i played alot of demo. Amazing game.
@@sjogosPT Me too. I played the demo over and over again until I got the full game.😄
@@-Tris- Never got fullgame. Some years ago i downloaded it for the dreamcast and i played the full version :). I plan to play it again soon.
@@sjogosPT PS1 version runs great on Duckstation 😉
@@-Tris- i have a mister fpga and i can run the game on that ;)
GET OUT OF MY WAY!
I remember playing this as a kid, but the game I remember in my head is different from the game I see here lol
You probably remember Destruction Derby 2
Not fussed about the other games, but they should remake DD1 with a track editor
Back in Xmas 97, DD2 was one of my first ever PS1 games. So fucking amazing.
2:06 what game is this? Looks much fun
I played db2 on windows 98 it was so good but i hated the fact i couldn't choose more cars
ua-cam.com/video/f700swyv_ec/v-deo.html
All star destruction ps5
Demolition Racer wasn't too bad either but the PS1 really struggled with it's own port here, the Dreamcast version was fine though.
“You’ve broken your rear axle!”
for 3 months after buying my ps1 i only had the demo disc ^^ all i played was destruction derby
Can you do a what the hell happened to Bushido Blade video?
I remember the good old "Destruction Derby 2" and i remember that, despite my efforts, i never figured how to repair the car. Any tips? PC version only please )
Very few cars to choose from and that drove me crazy. ( Not to use a vulgar vocabulary )
My brother and I played this game so much back in the day. Good memories
Wow just was talking about this to my son the other day!! We use to link up 2 og PlayStations and play that way
ua-cam.com/video/f700swyv_ec/v-deo.html
What the hell happened to Monster Truck Madness?
I love ‘destruction derby: arenas’ and it’s art style wich I can’t exactly describe. Y2K?
This game was so dope
No mention of the best DD game by far, Destruction Derby 64?
I remember the original DD and how great it was. Being one of the final two cars was intense. Only being surpassed by Twisted Metal.
Stainless Software (who later went on to develop the classic Carmageddon) showed a demo of their version of this game to the publishers but was turned down. This game then magically appeared, being a blatant ripoff even down to the demo game's name.

Source?
DDR is amazing. I would have enjoyed DDR2. Also DDR could have had PS2 port, I would have loved that as well.
Need for Speed already existed by then . The only excuse for games late 90's early 2000's was the battle of graphics since there were new competitors by then .
Strange enough we had Flatout 1 and 2 that are the real successors from Destruction Derby franchise ( Flatout 2 : Ultimate Carnage is just the HD versing from FO2 ) then we had also Nascar racing games in the 90's and 2000's as Indycar . Later on there was Wreckfest . There was also Motorstorm .
As i never consider Need for Speed and alike as the similar racing games as Destruction Derby which is totally different .
I don't understand why people doesn't like racing games more lately since every race is different and offer more satisfying moments than killing a silly soldier or demon in a FPS genre since you know after a couple times you play these games their spots .
There was even a game in the 90's which i cannot remember the name is you are in a futuristic world being a taxi driver and needs to do missions as you can also damage your taxi car and buy weapons etc....somehow the first GTA in 3D if i'm wrong hence Driver is the real predecessor of GTA in 3D wisely spoken .
The soundtracks were awesome.
Destruction Derby 2 was my afraid game.. may be that was my experience in that moment.. and when my brother played, I felt terrible... Crashing a mess... But when I played back in PC now, it is fun and must use your skills to get the award..
No mention of DD64? That shit was my childhood game, looked and played better than the ps1 games imo
It looked like a cartoon game and played like one over the serious and realistic ps1 games like destruction derby 1,destruction derby 2,and destruction derby raw
destruction derby arenas is my best race games on ps2, i play alot this games
He didn't even mention DD64 😢
My favorite one is destruction derby arenas
ua-cam.com/video/f700swyv_ec/v-deo.html
This was my second ps1 game good times
Wreckfest is destruction derby
This just became Wreckfest or Onrush.
It turned in to Wreakfest.
I loved destruction derby 64, I miss games like that so much. Burnout was a great replacement, but even that is done
Flatout 1, 2, Ultimate Carnage and Wreckfest its a good replacement.
Ve-hick-ular lol It's vehical one word!!
I still play destruction derby 1&2
Was a classic. Think how good the cars are in the GTA series to crash and destroy took away from Destruction Derby making more games
I love destruction Derby 64 ❤
Uhhhh, what about the flatout series?
Destruction derby and Resistance needs a comeback. Krazy Ivan as well.
Sony need to bring the series back.
I enjoyed this game on my baby PS1.
IMHO flatout did it better. Liked the former, LOVED the latter.
Especially on the PSP.
Thanks for the videos team 🎮⚡

It became wreckfest, actually,Driven to Destruction became Wreckfest
These games are made by different developers.
Yeh this game was fire...Carmegeddon also....such a simple but fun concept

I love Destruction Derby 2 but the AI difficulty is Brutal
1/ destruction derby 64 isnt DD1 ersion it's different
2/ Destruction Derby Raw is a great game
3/ Stop begging for subscription
4/ What's the game at 2:05 ?
wtf I liked the RAW. More cars, better physics and names for every collision. Arenas was horrible, really flat and soulless game overall. On ps2 Flatout 2 and Burnout 3 were the bomb.
I completely agree, RAW is an absolute childhood memory and the soundtrack SLAPPED
Not the same series but anyone play test drive eve of destruction/driven to destruction
They just dont make it anymore simple didnt need an 8 minute video
I played a hotwheels game once it was very good.
What about the game for n64.Its way different than the ps1.
Eu acho que primeiro saiu para P.C. só depois para a Playstation
Agreed
