Another awesome video by the Great Hacker, he is so versatile, he can work on anything! The lost bolt is with Jimmy Hoffa..More of your new house videos please....
I like to leave a little glob of grease on and covering all "zerk fittings", why? so they don't rust! more so on vehicles with them( you only see them on aftermarket parts now or old vehicles)
I always leave the grease on the zerk, and make sure it covers the whole zerk. Looks messy but prevent corrosion. Next time, wipe the grease off and push new in
Excessive grease is as bad as too little grease. Typically bearing manufacturers will tell you how many ounces of grease per bearing per some time frame. As to the issue of the coupling, if it's aligned properly at installation that type coupling doesn't require maintenance.
I work in schools. I try to keep it to 2 or 3 shots of grease. Sometimes more if you think it needs it. I agree that forcing out the old grease with the new grease might not be good (due to age of the equipment, as my reason).
It's a "Zerk fitting" not jerk. It's named for Oscar U. Zerk the guy who first patented the design. Over greasing is worse than under greasing, 1st off if the bearings are sealed you'll blow out the seal. Keep in mind the grease will thin and expand with heat. Just like oil in an engine if you over fill it'll create excess pressure and cause more damage than if it is slightly under filled. Incorrect, there are right and wrong ways to do things, the only case where you want to over grease and push out the old is if it's a bushing or an unsealed bearing that might have contamination like grit in it but if it is a shielded (metal seal) or sealed (rubber seal) bearing you never fill till you see grease coming out.
I said I only usually do2 pumps of my grease gun. I do say that. Yet for the video I also said I would show over greasing for the video. Now I won’t grease this pump at the beginning of next season. I’m in this building numerous times a year for ac and heat.the motor has weep holes to allow excess grease out. Yet the bearing assembly I backed off cause I didn’t want to destroy the bearing, yet the grease will still work it’s way out as it thins. I don’t want that pump to look like the bearings and motor on this 60+ year old champion air mover or Nesbitt air handler from the 50’s here
Hacker you gave up too early on looking for that Bolt. I would never let a bolt beat me. I would have looked day and night until I found it. Peace brother
@Guy McDude 1st of all, if you were any kind of mechanic you would know that you never grease a motor that isn't running. Basic skills an entry-level mechanics learn when they start off. 2nd you would have known that you're supposed to pump out old grease till new grease comes out if it has a drain plug, then run for 15 -30 minutes with drain open until grease stops leaking out ( Maybe learning how the heat transfer within a bearing occurs might help you not look like a hack). If no drain plug you then remove the zerk fitting (grease fitting in case you didn't know) after you pump in some new grease and then run for 15-30 minutes and let great bubble out. All this is listed in every motor and pump manufacturer's repair/operating manuals.
@@smadura4310 Wow man. Excuse me for asking, your highness. High and mighty asshole. The reason Im here is because I want to learn. Not all of us have the knowledge.
Are you using Grease for an electric motor and another grease gun for the bearings on the pump housing with grease that is supposed to be used on the pump bearings

Good vid Hackster ... Like the way you take care of your customers ...
Why do I have a feeling this was more of a rant than informational? LMAO!
Why is he calling it a jerk fitting? It's Zerk.
Nice service job. That pump looks like it came out of the USS Ling!
At my work we used to run those style of pumps and replaced them as they finally died with grunfos magna3 pumps.

And that's why you work in a school. Forcing old grease out and replacing with new grease might not be good said no good mechanic ever.
Just out of curiosity, what’s your preferred method for the motor and pump shaft alignment?
What kind of grease do I use?

Yea, don’t be a Jerk! Lol
And there's always more than one douchebag. I'd rather be a know it all than a piece of shit bully!

I had some casters that took 125 pumps each.
I hate those pistol grip grease guns. I hear lock-n-lube is the 🐝 knees have you tried any locking ends on grease gun

It was found, I must of kicked it somehow over by the door
great way on how NOT to grease a pump or motor!!
So how DO you do it then?
