    I watched your videos a few years ago when looking for a telescope. I decided to check back here and you've certainly improved.

    For the popular science scope. When you mention build and quality. Does that include the image you see or just material of the scope?

      What is you budget in USD? And where are you located? And how much storage space do you have. I highly recommend a StarSense equipped scope. Except the 114AZ. Stay away any time you see a 114AZ.
      If your budget is $250ish, the 80AZ will let you see moon, planets, brighter star clusters. Not sure about the brighter nebulas. Maybe with a nebula filter. If you are outside the USA, the 70az is cheaper and should be able to see everything the 80az can see.
      Next up in the $350 range is the Popular Science 100AZ. If have this one and very happy with it. Great size to grab-n-go. I have seen everything the 80az sees plus nebula, globulars, and Andromeda Galaxy without filters, although filters can help.
      I dont have much experience with the other scopes. I do have a 10" dobsonian. If you can afford one, i highly recommend it.
      One warning about buying a StarSense used. To use the app on you phone, you must have an unlock code. Each new scope gets one code that can be used to unlock the app 5 times (not 5 uses). Buying used, you may or may not get the code or know how many uses are left. Or after you buy it, the seller could use up all the unlocks on multiple phones, leaving you with only one or no unlocks. And Celestron will not provide you with a new code.
      My suggestion, if you have $1000 to spend and space to store is buy the Popular Science 100AZ and look for a used good 8" or 10" dobsonian. Might have enough money for some eyepieces or nebular filter too.

      @@millenialfalcon8243 what is the problem with the lt 114az?

    • @millenialfalcon8243
      @millenialfalcon8243 Рік тому

      @@mad_clown475 The 114az and 127eq are both a "Bird-Jones" type scope. They don't use a parabolic mirror. Instead, they use a cheaper spherical mirror with corrector lens built into the focuser. Spherical mirrors create a very poor image, especially in a very short OTA. The corrector lense tries to fix the image, but really just magnifies the image, including all of the image problems. The result is usually an image that always looks slightly out of focus with other "distortions". You will know if a newtonian is a bird-jones if it has a focal length that is way longer than the length of the OTA tube itself.

    what is the bets for deep space that costs 300~ dollars?

    • @millenialfalcon8243
      @millenialfalcon8243 Рік тому +2

      Deep space visual astronomy is all about scope size. Our eyes are very light limited and many DS objects are very dim. In general, the bigger the scope the better. But even the biggest ones wont let you visually see what you see in pictures. Almost nothing besides the planets have any color. If yours eyes are really good, you can sometimes detect faint reds or blue/greens.
      Do you have room for a big scope? Do you want to transport it easily? Do you live in a city with lots of light pollution?

      Agreed. A 6in or much better 8in Dobsonian reflector would be a great beginner, but they're not within $300 budget unless you find it used. And dont forget eyepieces.

    • @millenialfalcon8243
      @millenialfalcon8243 Рік тому

      Currently, new full size Dobs are $460+ for 6in, $650+ for 8in.
      If $300 is your limit, I would recommend the $310 Sky-Watcher Heritage 150p. It is a 6in collapsible "table top" Dob. Very compact and transportable. Nice wide views of the sky. It is limited a bit by its focuser, a 1.25in helical type.
      The one downside for beginners with this scope, because it is a collapsible Newtonian, it will need alignment (collimation) every time you use it. This is easy to do once you learn how. A laser collimator makes it easier.
      Because it is a "table top" scope, you will need to place it on top of a small table, box, or upside down trash bin to get it off the ground and up to eye level.
      It comes with a 25mm eyepiece for low mag wide views and a 10mm eyepiece for more magnification. I would recommend buying a Barlow, which multiplies the magnification. Good for looking at the planets.
