A very nice project. Well, at least up to the final step. Didn’t you hear that paint is the worst thing to put on something like this. Now the thing looks like a new bucket, and you can’t stick it in the dirt. Really, that is a nice project, and I like what I saw of your shop. A 76 yrs old retired toolmaker said that.
Awesome job fella!! Im currently rebuilding our 38" Cemetery bucket. Is there any benefit to using the stick welder for welding the heavy plate together Vs. An equally powered or capable 220volt Gas shielded mig? We have a 220volt stick welder at the shop but im not as proficient with it as I am a gas sheilded Mig. Did you go with the stick welder for deeper penetration? What size or rating was your Mig? Thanks alot, Nice bucket build!!
You’re asking me a lot of technical questions. I am not a professional welder, I’m a self-taught and trial by error type guy 😁. Here is what I’ve learned over the years though. A stick welder seems to be better for thicker metals because of the heat you can put through the larger electrode. This gives you better penetration. It also gives you a wider weld puddle with minimal electrode tip movement. I did use my mig for the pin bossing and a couple other areas. When I use my mig on thick metals I run .045 wire at 20-25 volts. I have dug several trenches with it and it hasn’t fallen apart, I must’ve done something right. Hope this helps.

Nice job! What grade of steel did you use for the brackets, bushings and pins?
Just mild steel. That makes the pins and bushings easy to build and when they wear out I will build new ones.
