      these newbs probably couldn't handle some the races with acid house as the soundtrack as happens on most of my early tapes from the late 80's and early 9o's. Just as crucial as the horizontal top tubes and skinny tubing.

    Great video, and its interesting to see the evolution of technology, a lot of the bikes have all the controls for gears and brakes on the handle bars, some look awkward with cables all over the place, but this race probably wasn't about aerodynamics'? also in addition the clip less pedal concept is well embraced at this era, but its great to see steel frames being used for this application, rather than the over priced plastic SHITE , that are being ridden now.

    • @keirfarnum6811
      @keirfarnum6811 3 роки тому

      Not a cyclist, eh? They’re mostly using downtube shifters and the brake handles are exactly where they’ve always been. The only real change after this is the shifters moving into the brake levers with Shimano STI and Campagnolo Ergo; and the cables are better placed, with many running on the bars now.

    I notice that the cyclists have downtube shifters. This was the last time. In 1994 Paris Roubaix, everyone had STI shifters.

    • @tonyfranklin8306
      @tonyfranklin8306 4 роки тому +3

      Indexed and indeed friction down tube shifters were superior in shifting terms than those early integrated units, they were clonky AF but obviously they did allow you to keep your hands on the hoods on the rough stuff. In many regards a set of Suntour Command shifters could have been better instead of the early STIs, it wasn't until Campags 8speed Ergos did we get decent shifting, they were an absolute mile ahead of the Dura Ace 8 speed STIs

      I had Shimano indexed downtube shifters on my cheap Trek road bike (I was a mountain biker back then and my MTB ate up all my money), but I preferred using them in friction mode. With hypergrind, I could make almost silent shifts so no one could tell when I was changing gears to stomp on it and go. Very handy!
