This was always one of my favorite games as a kid. Pixar did a great job, and using QuickTime vids allowed for stellar video and audio quality for a PC game from 1996!
Heres a fun fact for you, in order to get Toy Story 2 out in time so soon after Bug's Life, Disney sent a lot of the animators from this and the activity studio to help out. Its also fun to hear early Jim Hanks where he sounded kiiiinda like Tom Hanks whereas now he's practically indistinguishable.
Yep; in fact, they originally committed a large chunk of their staff for the computer games, until they realized that the games weren't lucrative enough to warrant budgeting so much of their staff on them. That's why the animation in this game is on par with the movie's, where later Pixar computer games (such as TS2 Activity Center) suffer a pretty noticeable drop in animation quality. TS2's production is a story in and of itself, which I'm sure you already know, but for the uneducated -- it was conceived as a direct-to-video movie, and thus had the production values of one. Then Disney saw the product and ordered a theatrical release for it, absolutely horrifying Pixar because they felt the movie wasn't anywhere near good enough for one. They basically wiped everything out and started from the ground up, but still with the deadline set in stone, so now they only had a little under a year to churn out a AAA grade product. It more than makes sense that they asked for a bit of a hand in those trying times!
Oooooh man I remember this game. I was a 90's baby and went through a Toy Story phase where I collected all the toys, and I remember playing this game pretty much on the daily. I think I even reenacted some of the games with the toys like the shadow game. The inaccuracies to the movie are pretty funny looking back.
This game was definitely my favorite to play when I was 6 almost 7 years old in 2001, I especially remember Sid's house in this game, just like the movie, loved it all. I never forgot this game. Great times.
22:58 I call foul on this entire set up! Woody wanted Buzz behind the desk! Throwing him out the window was a complete accident and never set up like this! It completely changes the story! There was a chain-reaction, but only because Buzz dodged RC!
It's also so strange to hear the Warner Bros./Looney Tunes sound effects used in a "Toy Story" game. I mean, it's not like when they get used by Humongous Entertainment or in "Toonstruck" or the Living Books (I remember "The New Kid on the Block" made particularly heavy use of the Warner Bros. sound effects.)
"Hey there you two, you don't have to settle tour differences like this. Ah, an invisible forcefield. Great Scotties, he's tearing that man's heart out. This is a strange violent civilisation you have here sheriff."
Buzz Lightyear: Uh uh uh uh! Please be careful. You don't to be in the way when my laser goes off. Woody: It's not a laser. It's a little light bulb that blanks. Hamm: What's with him. 14:30
Hey! I listened to your "Pajama Sam 3 Music: Dancing Soda Cans (Pogo 1)" rip on your other channel. Could you explain how I can rip those musics and songs? I think I still have the Dutch version of this game for Windows somewhere and I would like to rip the Dutch version of the song. :)
I remember this game vividly as a kid but not for good reasons. The awkward silence between dialogs, uncanny 3D movement in some scenes, and the times where there is no music or sound effects made me have nightmares as a kid. 90s prerendered graphics can make the best interactive horror if done right or unintentionally done poorly.
Scud: (barking and snaring after Woody, Buzz, and RC as they try to get in the moving van) Woody: Oh no, it’s Scud! Rocky: Me help Woody! (Pushes the hard ball out the back as it rolls towards Scud) Woody: That should slow him down for a while. (Ball hits Scud like a bowling ball) Scud: (howling with injuries) Imagine what would it be like if it was in the actual movie.
Slinky: What else can you do, Mr. Lightyear? Buzz Lightyear: I'll show you. (Pressing button to the toy speaker)"Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!" Rex: Terrific! Hamm: Not bad. Mr. Potato Head: Great! Slinky: Swell! Bo Peep: Dreamy! Woody: Weak. 16:01

Actually a coincidence that TS4 happens to be coming out, but if you want to look at it that way, that works! I'll admit, I was one of the people who was really irritated when they first revealed they were making a fourth movie as I felt the third ended it so well, but after seeing the trailers, I'm hopefully optimistic. I don't think it's going to be as good as the third, but I don't think we're supposed to expect it to be, and that's okay. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
I remember a part at Pizza Planet where there was a mini game you could play with the alien drink machines and when you leave one of the aliens goes "Come back when you're ready to go to school again!"
