Toy Story is a video game for the Sega Genesis, the Super Nintendo, Game Boy and Microsoft Windows. It is largely based on the movie of the same name. The game closely follows the plot of Toy Story, with a few minor differences. The game was followed by a sequel based on the second film. This is the only Pixar game that had a Kids To Adults rating in the USA.
This version contains one extra level named Day-Toy-Na, that is not in the SNES version.

This game had 5 different gameplay styles in 1 game: 2D platforming, overhead racing, Mode 7-esque racing, first person mode and a Galaga-esque 2D flyer. On a SEGA Genesis cartridge. Wow, just wow.
They really went all out

@@RetroGaming-gp2ef It does blow your mind when a gaming company can bring a HUGE HIT to a system, great gameplay, graphics, the whole thing and then lay an egg with their next game. I mean LJN? They ALWAYS laid eggs....lol, but whenever something really good is released on whatever the system, your looking out for their next big game, and when it drops a 💩💩 it's a bummer. Just 🧻wipe🧻 it off and 🚽flush🚽it! Makes you wonder why though!

I love how in the first stage when you free the army men the music adds a marching drum sound effect.
Most impressive game on the Genesis (Mega Drive) to date. Pseudo 3D graphics on the Genesis wasn't really common and the whole game is like this so it is pretty great game to show what the Genesis is capable of.
It is one of them, my fav is Batman and Robin plus the Jesper Kyd soundtrack 😎🥂
Well Snes was already doing this, plus they had the same game. It's just that the music in the Genesis one is always better than the SNES versions of the same game.

I have fond memories playing this over and over again as a kid. One of the best MegaDrive/Genesis games ever made. And if I may say, this is also the complete and polished version of this game, as compared to the SNES version.
Never had this game but I remember always seeing the advertisement for it before watching Toy Story on VHS

Fun fact: Sega made Toy Story the last pack-in game for the Mega Drive in the UK. A great way to showcase just how far the Mega Drive had come in its six years of being on the market (Christmas 1996).

Incredible game the graphics are absolutely incredible for the Mega Drive especially the dog chase level in Sid's House and claw machine. Not to mention this version has the exclusive driving level that wasn't on the Snes version due to hardware limitations.
I still prefer the snes version though..
I'm pretty sure the snes could handle that.It just wasn't in the snes version.
No it actually couldn't due to it's slower cpu it could have if they used a super FX chip but it was extremely rare that a 3rd party developer used any additional chips on the cart.
But super mariokart and f zero though?
But this is more 3D than F zero as F Zero is mode 7 also Mario Kart had an add on chip DSP1 on the cart.

There's a lot of great games on the Genesis other then this one, like the Sonic games (1-3 and Sonic & Knuckles), ToeJam & Earl, Micheal Jackson's Moonwalk, ect.

For a Sega Genesis game, this one includes some of the best graphics ever! I mean, the game is entirely in 2.5D, but damn...these graphics pre-date 3D platforms! Am I seeing a modernized Sega Saturn game?! 🤯
Oh and yes, this version includes the deleted driving stage from the Super Nintendo version. It wasn't included in that version due to limitations with the hardware.
I always thought that driving level was cut due to similarities with Outrun which is a Sega property

Absolutely crazy! A lot of this looks on par with PS1 graphics.
Hell I would have been mistaking into thinking this was a launch game for PSOne. This actually looks better than Micky's Wild Adventure IMO!

Toy Story hasn't been ported to PlayStation and that's frustrating for me. Also, Sega Genesis was on a decline in its sales due to Sega Saturn, for the latter of which the game was also not ported.
@@AmbientMess Considering that TT made both games, they should be on par with each other, especially because Mickey Mania WAS on the Genesis before being put onto PS1 as Wild Adventure.
This could pass for a PlayStation game! If I ever had the chance to play this when I was a kid. I would be blown away!

I did! I was 8 years old when this came out. The key was to collect as many stars as you could. I remember crying because me and my brother would take turns and he wouldn't get those damn stars and we would lose haha
I sadly never beat it, I was stuck on the carnival level.
This is probably one of the best looking, if not THE best mega drive game graphically. The cutscene images are incredible, the pre rendered sprites look great.. Travellers Tales really knew how to utilise the Mega Drive to it’s full potential

I remember my grandfather took me to see the film when it first came out and then my dad bought me the game when it got released. Hell I still have my copy still with it’s original box from 1995
Put so many hours into this game. Can definitely remember getting frustrated very often. Such a memorable game though. Watched this and remembered every level.
Holy crap I remember when this came out.. The graphics were mindblowing! Nothing will ever beat this we thought.. Ha!
Probably the most difficult game of all time. And the life system is unforgiving. Always thought it was impossible to beat.

A lot of movie to game adaptations aren't good, but this one was exceptionally well made. Great graphics and colors, with great level designs based on scenes in the film.

I know this reply is 8 months after your comment but one of the developers of this game has a youtube channel called GameHut where he goes into detail on how he programmed this effect and has other videos on other games that he had developed.
Sega before has the capability for 3d but most developers did not use it they thought we would hate it
Heavily simplified in comparison to Doom, and Doom was rush released. Doom could have been much, much better.
@@lucasparnell9043 Gamehut is made by Jon Burton; who was one of the producers for many Lego and Disney games like Mickey Mania and such. I didn’t even know he was Gamehut till I looked up stuff on Google, his personal channel, and the games that he is responsible for with many other people. It is fascinating that he and many other people regardless of competition have made such impactful content.

This is one of the games I'm glad that a) I ended up getting as a random gift back in '96, and b) I'm glad I held on to after all of these years. I can't remember how many hours, days, weeks etc. I spent playing the hell out of this game. Although I admit, it used to kick my butt..... I think the furthest I ever got in the game, before this year anyway (and I can't remember the last time I tried playing it before this year, probably sometime between 2000 and 2010), was the first Sid's Bedroom/House stage, basically the first stage after the claw-machine stage. I was always curious what the differences there are (if any) between this version and the Super Nintendo version, so I'll probably have to get the SNES version someday. Either way, a film-based game done right. If I had any complaints, they would just be minor nitpicks. Mostly how they made stages out of short segments or scenes in the film, although I think the biggest would be the controls for the RC car..... but even so, I've mastered controlling the RC car mostly.
I just beat this game today, it was HARD especially levels 13-15.
This was the hardest game ever! I was not smart enough as a child to beat this game. Lol

The Nightmare Buzz boss battle is actually a recreation of a part that was cut from the actual movie.
As a kid, I obviously never would’ve guessed that was the case, but, learning that AS AN ADULT, that’s actually really cool.
I wanted to bring that up, because I never actually see anyone mention it.

I always used to find the earlier levels surprisingly difficult, but I absolutely loved the pizza planet level!!!

The end credits theme are my favourite soundtrack of the game.
Fun fact: in the Pizza Planet level called "Food and Drink", the straw from Woody's soda cup's lid is missing.
